Rated 4 out of 5 by ChelseaChapel Nice Coat, Runs Large
I got this for my husband. He likes how warm and truly lightweight the coat is. He said he wishes there were more inside pockets as well as a draw string at the bottom to cinch the coat in. He wears a medium in all of his clothing. He has a 32-33 inch waistband and this coat was very large on him. He could get two fist lengths under the stomach section of the coat. We are exchanging it out for a small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bmango Awesome parka
I just received this parka in the color mountain red, and not only is it beautiful, but it's comfortable, well-made, and one of the nicest parkas I've ever had! It really pays to buy from LL Bean. I just can't wait until winter comes because i know I'll be very warm and comfy in my new parka. The hood will keep my head warm and stand up to strong winds, and the front pockets are very roomy and sturdy. To buy something comparable I'd have to spend twice as much money. I'm very happy with the choice I made, and I would recommend LL Bean to everyone I know.

Had an old one in blue, but needed a new one, and was glad the style was still available! Got it in black this time...love the pockets with zippers, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BrooklynNY L.L. Bean almost lost me
I and several family members purchased this parka over the last two decades, based on my recommendations. This parka is essentially the same as the "Beans Goose Down Hooded Parka". L.L. Bean changed the name of the parka to ?Trail Model Down Hooded Parka?. Throughout the decades, modifications have been made to the parka every year or two, without a change in name. Sometimes the modifications were an improvement, but sometimes not. But no matter what, the parka has always been a well-made, warm parka at an affordable price.
However, 2013 was the exception. I bought the coat for my wife in November of 2013, and after one month, her car and clothes were full of down and feathers. She hated the parka. She could not understand why I was a fan of L.L. Bean products. The coat leaked, and it leaked an awful lot. She refused to wear the coat in the winters of 2014 and 2015. I returned the coat in January of 2016.
I purchased the parka for my father-in-law in Christmas of 2015, hoping that L.L. Bean fixed their errors. They did. The parka is now made with Pertex Quantum liner and shell, which is supposedly downproof. In addition, the stitching is far superior to the very loose stitching in the 2013 model.
My faith in L.L. Bean has been restored in the winter of 2015, after two years of lousy design, materials, and manufacturing. FYI, L.L. Bean also had huge issues with many of their other soft shell down models in 2013. And, perhaps, coincidentally, or perhaps not so coincidentally, in 2012 and 2013, L.L. Bean decided to hide from easy view one of their two comfort ratings, making people believe that their winter garments were much warmer than they really were. To find both comfort ratings required some clicking. Fortunately, in winter of 2015, L.L. Bean came to their senses by deciding not to hide from easy view the more reasonable comfort rating. Visitors to their site no longer had to find out where to click to find the other comfort rating. Honestly, if L.L. Bean continued with their 2012 and 2013 practices, I was going to stop buying anything from them. I am glad they came to their senses. I can now continue recommending their products.
My advice to those who own the 2013 Beans Goose Down Hooded Parka is to return it for this year?s model, which Bean now calls ?Trail Model Down Hooded Parka?. For those who are looking for a well-made, warm parka at an affordable price, seriously consider this parka. You may be hard pressed to find a better parka at this price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by outdoorluvrinMD Very warm and comfortable coat!
We were due for arctic cold temps on the East Coast this weekend, and my old down jacket was due for replacement. I ordered one of these in black via Express shipping and it arrived just in time for the cold!
The coat is true to size. I wear an XL in all shirts and jackets, ordered an XL and it fits perfectly. (5'10" size 40 waist) The collar buttons up very high to keep the cold out, and does a good job along with the storm flap over the zipper. From reading another review I thought the sleeves had knit cuffs at the end - they do not. They are elasticized, the only drawback is that they do not fit completely snug against the wrist, which could let in air. But with gloves on, it doesn't seem to be an issue.
One great thing about this coat is that the hood is PLENTY large. It is oversized. That's a good thing. On every other coat I've ever gotten, the hood was never big enough for me. I wear a 7 5/8 hat. This hood is huge but is great for keeping the wind off of the head. The hood does have drawstrings in order to get a tight fit.
I stood outside for 10 minutes in single digit temps and didn't feel an ounce of cold penetrating this coat. That was with a t-shirt underneath. Today I walked a mile with my dog in low 20 degree temps, and actually started to get too warm in the coat. I did have a flannel shirt on underneath then.
In my experience there is nothing to beat the cold like a quality down coat. This parka fits the bill. It's warm, comfortable, and nice looking, and seems to be a quality garment. That includes the zipper by the way, it works very well. My only minor complaint is that it could have 2-3 more pockets. It has one inside pocket, one outside upper pocket and two outside large pockets. You can never have too many pockets in a coat, IMO. But I'm very happy with it overall and would not hesitate to order it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Shop1258 Great Coat
Purchased this coat in November and stayed warm all winter long. Good fit, although the hood is big to leave room for wearing a hat. The tall version worked well with the length coming to about mid thigh. Coat is very good in the wind and the cold doesn't penetrate. Purchased a second coat when it went on sale again in January. Lots of pockets and it has a double zipper. Would not buy any winter coat without a double zipper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kosh2 Well made but not warm enough
Bought this coat for my husband because he hates shopping. The coat is well made, of good material and has nice features. However, it's not warm enough for Wisconsin winters so we are returning it.
