Rated 5 out of 5 by WorkingMother3 Purchase simular from 3 companies; LL bean in top
We purchased 3 French terry shorts from 3 stores; 1 box $6; 1 other catalog company $20 range & these from LL Bean. The box are only OK for taking to camp but the colors are not nice (odd shades - we have a gray but funky light) and fit not as good on either children but OK going to camp for 3 weeks for we are not going to cry if they do not come back; Other catalog company & LL beans both had better colors and fit; LL Beans were tad shorter but not too short & preferred by one of my daughter; the color of the LL bean is fading less than even the other catalog company and worn about the same.....LL Bean not going to camp for we care if these do not make it back. They match the tees perfectly! If they were not sold out we would order more for both daughters!

The shorts have a longer length which is why I purchased three of them, but they are way too tiny in the waist. Most of the pants/bottoms I buy my 7 year old fall off of her, but these are too tight on her small frame. I sent them back.

I agree with other reviewers that these are very comfortable, but I mistakenly washed them (once) in warm water, not cold. Though I hung them to dry, the waistband shrunk 1/2 inch and now they aren't as comfortable--so just try to remember: cold water only:)

Good fitting shorts. Not to short, I bought them because of the length. Waist band may be a little unforgiving as far as being a little tight. Overall a very nice pair of shorts for your little one.

These shorts are soft and comfortable. I bought 2 pairs for my daughter, and then I had to buy two more because she liked them so much. Right now my daughter is on crutches, and the shorts do not restrict her range of motion in any way. They are even soft enough to sleep in.

I've had a hard time finding shorts for my 9-yr-old daughter of a modest length and with elastic waist. She won't wear traditional button front type shorts, only those with stretchy waistband. These are soft, comfortable and roomy. Bought size 10, which is a bit on the loose side, but I like the room to grow. Only wish there were more colors and patterns!

My daughter loves comfortable, knit shorts, and these are a more modest length than others out there. Wish they came in more solid colors, such as pink and tan. We also have the cropped pants, and love them, too!

These shorts are perfect - soft and just the right weight - not too flimsy or too thick. It is hard to find shorts that aren't inappropriately short for young girls, so I am pleased at the length of these. I just wish they had more colors!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Ranunculus Too-short inseam
It's very difficult to find shorts for my 8-year-old daughter that aren't made of flimsy material or too revealing. So I was happy to see these knit shorts on the LL Bean website! When they arrived, I was pleased to see and feel their substantial fabric. But when my daughter tried them on, it was very clear that these are far too short for any active child: the inseam is about 3.5 inches. As soon as she climbs a tree or sits in anything but a demure crossed-leg position, her underpants are flashed to the world. Clearly, not a feature I want for my kid's clothing (or for mine, for that matter!).
When I compare the shorts I received to the ones pictured on the LL Bean website, the website ones look to have an inseam that's about twice as long.
The material is great, the back pocket is nice (though I would love to see these shorts with front pockets?pockets are standard on most boys' clothing but rare on girls' stuff...and girls need pockets, too!), and the seams appear well-stitched. The short inseam is a deal-breaker, though. So these shorts are going back.

If in between sizes, go down. My daughter loves them. Perfect to wear for active lifestyle because it's a modest length.
