Cuts wind, rain, and snow. Breathes like a charm and feels soft. No noisy fabric here! The color yellow is the "bomb"! Bright, but not obnoxious (how LLBean pulled this off, I will never know).
One complaint; no hand pockets. Why? Would like to be able to protect my hands if necessary from rain, cold, and wind aside from just gloves.

First off, I'm a man writing about a women's jacket. Why? Because, as an avid bicyclist, I wanted the bright yellow jacket (not available in men's) and I couldn't pass up the 50% off sale in the women's version. I normally buy a Men's Large; so I went with the Women's Petite XL, and that fit nicely. Don't believe the marketing hype that this is like a soft shell jacket. If soft shell means Polartec fleece, then this is nowhere near a soft shell. It is still a hard shell jacket, but it is most likely the lightest waterproof, breathable jacket on the market. I own Gore-Tex, eVent, and other waterproof, breathable jackets, and if you exercise vigorously enough, you will still get a bit of condensation underneath. (Certainly not as bad as the old nylon-coated jackets of the 1960s and 1970s, before the widespread adoption of Gore-Tex.) While I haven't run the gamut of testing for the NeoShell Bounder jacket, my preliminary findings are that it is the best breathing waterproof jacket I've worn to date--while walking vigorously and biking in light to middling Northwest rain. I even persuaded my wife to buy one. A great jacket overall!

Rated 5 out of 5 by TechnoGrammie As light as described!
I was looking for a high-quality, lightweight, breathable, waterproof jacket that gives me visibility when I'm walking down our many New England dirt roads. This jacket does it all! While it is certainly pricey, I'm expecting it to serve me well for many years. The med petite is true to size for my 5'2" frame. While I "get" the reason for the pocket design (when wearing a pack) my only complaint would be the difficulty of getting keys, tissues, etc out of a pocket. I am super-happy with how truly lightweight this jacket is!

As promised, this jacket is lightweight and soft. I haven't yet worn it in a downpour, but in the light rains of the NW spring it has worked perfectly. The petite sizing of LL Bean means the jacket fits my body. Finally, the hood is well-designed for people who really, really, spend time in the rain!

Rated 4 out of 5 by ifish210 Great jacket
Bought this jacket for all outdoor activities. I hike, hunt, fish, etc. I also wanted something I could wear around town. This jacket has been all that so far. I've worn it by itself on warmer rainy days, and with a fleece or Primaloft jacket on cold days.
The fit is excellent, though I agree with the first poster that I'd love another inch of length in the body. My only concern is the zippers which seem sort of flimsy and "sticky". I'm worried that they won't last long.
I highly recommend this jacket if you're loping for an all around shell that can be used in a variety of conditions.

I bought this jacket esp. because of its pockets that give you access when wearing a backpack. And I just came back from a hard two day hiking trip and it was a wonderful jacket to wear over my fleece and then it hailed and rained and it kept me dry - the hood is great. Yes - the pockets - I had my tissues and lipbalm etc in one and my camera in another - and I had easy access.
BUT I just wish it was an inch longer all over.
But overall - it is very well made and does what it is supposed to do and is sturdy and light.
