Over all, this is a great jacket. It is lightweight but water resistant, so you don't get super sweaty as you keep dry. It's great for travelling, too, because it's easy to pack without adding weight.
My issue with the jacket is with the zipper, which seemed rather flimsy from the beginning. Sure enough, after not much wear and tear the zipper broke off all together.
For $250, I expected much better quality!

I must be honest and say I was really impressed with the design and fabric (NeoShell) that Bean put into the jacket and pant. I have run both the jacket and pant through just about ever situation possible and it has held up very well. I think the fabric lives up to the waterproof and highly breathable description. I have worked hard in the mountains and never felt the clammy feeling on the inside of the jacket. I find the fit and design to be very functional with a climbing harness and pack. I like the super lite weight minimal approach that this kit offers. I would suggest that you purchase the TALL version for longer sleeves and a bit longer back. The pants I found could be sized down. I typically wear a Large 35/30 and found the medium to fit very well. I would suggest a couple of simple cargo pockets on the pant in the next version.

I really wanted to like this jacket. Well made and very light.
However I want to use if for skiing. The hood is not designed to cover you ski helmet. Something I do often hear in the east.

Design seems to be a problem with NeoShell. There are no normal jacket pockets with this rain jacket as you see with the trail model, pathfinder and goretex rain jackets. Where do you put your hands? The high pockets are good for storing some items, but there's no place for your hands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MasstoOregon Very well made jacket
I bought this jacket in advance of a weeklong backpack in the Tetons; we experienced heavy rain the first day and more rain the last evening with snow and sleet the last morning. The jacket kept me dry and even when climbing (albeit in colder temperature and with a technical t-shirt as an underlayer) I did not drown in perspiration. The jacket is watertight, very breathable for a waterproof jacket, and well constructed. Finally, I found the high pocket very convenient for backpacking. With the three layer construction of the jacket, I expect durability to be very good, but time will tell. Overall, it's not an inexpensive jacket but compared to other similarly constructed jackets, it's very high quality and a good value.

Rated 3 out of 5 by reberguy works well but too short in back
Fabric seems to work well, but cut is small for advertized sizes. I should take a L but needed XL to be able to move freely with just a flannel shirt underneath; with a fleece it is tight. Length in back is skimpy - I ordered a tall (am 6'1") and it should really be longer than it is. It is long enough to shed over rainpants if you're standing or walking, but sitting in a canoe it funnels the water down the gap. It would be a great rain jacket if they had been just a little bit more generous with the amount of fabric they used. I will keep it but really can't use it for all the situations it should be suitable for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mile38 Just as advertised!
This waterproof jacket is, as advertised, also very breathable. I have worn it on several 6 mile walks in the rain - and it has kept me dry while also in no way overheating me. This innovative fabric does what no other supposed breathable fabric can do. I feel confident that it will be used through 3 seasons whenever there is precipitation to deal with. It is well worth the money!

I've had this rain jacket for a while now and it has kept me dry and does an excellent job of breathing. It has kept me from sweating to death while wearing the jacket on rainy days while hiking, biking, etc. It isn't perfect as some moisture still builds underneath...but it is very good. I bought this jacket mainly for backpacking, but I haven't actually used it in this manner yet. I got the stats on a few other jackets from Bean except the Stowaway Gore-Tex but if weight is an issue this is certainly much lighter than the Pathfinder jacket, but it is also obviously a lot more expensive. I would trust all of Bean's products. I bought my GF the trail model jacket and she loves it.
This jacket in Tall Medium fit me like it was tailored for me and I am 6'2" and about 170 lbs. I am longer in my legs than in my torso but everything fits me very well and hangs just low enough on my legs for great protection without being too long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TDJP Incredibly Breathable
This is an excellent rain jacket. The fit is right, and the details are well thought out. And the best part: it is incomparably breathable. Also the inside facing of the jacket is soft to the touch and the fabric isn't crinkly like other fabrics out there. Again, simply an excellent rain jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by OrangeKid Great Waterproof Jacket and Matching Pants
I own several waterproof jackets including ones make of Gore Tex, eVent and several others. The NeoShell breathes much better than the others. All previous waterproof jackets left me clammy and wet after even moderate exercise. The NeoShell is much superior and leaves me dry even when I exercise moderately. I have used the NeoShell in a prolonged and heavy downpour in Portland, OR, and it is totally waterproof. It also also windproof. I was a little worried that the jacket does not have pit vents, but after using the jacket I discovered that they are not needed.
I do not have any issues with the sleeves while cycling. Although it is not a cycling jacket it works well for me on a bike. The hood fits nicely under my helmet and the hood allows adequate peripheral vision while riding.
My review also applies to the matching pants. Both the NeoShell jacket and pants fit true to size.
