Rated 4 out of 5 A lack of organization holds this back
This is a fantastic quality bag! The description is not at all helpful, though.
It's a heavy duty bag with room for at least two large case law books in the main pouch with plenty of room to spare! The bag also has a special laptop section that is lined with a microfiber material that easily holds a 13" macbook and looks like it can accommodate up to a 15" laptop. It also has a special Tablet pocket with the same microfiber lining and fits an iPad air easily with a case.
My biggest gripe with this bag is the total lack of organization features outside of the special hardware pockets listed. There is a very deep zippered pouch inside which would be a great place to store cables, snacks, pens, etc. However, this pouch is a free for all inside! No tiny pockets for cables or a charger, no pen slots to keep writing utensils organized. I will have to pick up a Grid It to keep this bag organized with my odds and ends.
This is very well made bag but it's only good enough. A severe and perplexing lack of organization holds this bag back from being great, sadly.

I was so excited to get my bag because it looked really cool and adirondackish. I needed a new bag for college because the other one I had ripped in the back (different product not LLbean). I saw this one and I instantly wanted it. When I got it, it seemed a bit too big and wide. Great space, and pockets on the inside though.
I love the zipper. But like the other user said it is not for petite people. I adjusted the strap to the shortest it can go and it was a bit past my waist. Plus the bag by itself is heavy. You add more things into it it'll be unbearable to carry on your shoulder. Love your bags but some of them do need a little work. Thank you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JimsFamilyBlue Why I won't purchase this great messenger bag
I am an avid, 50 year L.L. Bean Customer, Fan and when necessary, critic. They nailed it on this bag . . I am SO impressed. There is once significant omission though . . there is no "grab handle". It is awkward, to say the least, to hold a messenger bag by the strap, and look in it for your desired item (brush, calculator, check book, etc). It's awkward to pick the messenger bag up from where ever you laid it down . . to move it from one location to another near by location, by the shoulder strap. . . or you may desire to hold it by the absent handles as opposed to the only other reasonable option, over your shoulder. As for the lady who loves the bag, but found the strap too long . . . get resourceful, break pro active . . take it to a shoe repairman . . to a tack shop, somewhere that repairs sails and rigging material . . a good seamstress . . and have them cut (sever) the strap at the appropriate location, and professionally stitch (or rivet) it secure. I had a bag (messenger) that had a strap that was too short. I told the company my plan . . they sent me an additional strap . . . I cut a foot long section out of it, which I measured to be UNDER the bag, had it attached with rivets at our shoe repair shop. . . and it was perfect.
Please L.L. Bean . . manufacture this awesome bag with handles. Thanks !

Rated 5 out of 5 by dorkmuffin Best Christmas present ever.
I just got this bag for Christmas and it is PERFECT for me. It's large, it seems REALLY durable, and it's so so so attractive. It's exactly what I wanted out of a shoulder bag, and it'll be great for carrying around my sketchbooks or my laptop.
That it zips on the top is also excellent.

Rated 3 out of 5 by PetitePatron Not recommended for shorter people
I would have loved to keep this bag. It was roomy enough for all of my books and laptop (I teach at a university), as well as the extras I need throughout the day. The bag appeared to be durable. However, the strap was VERY long - even when fully adjusted to the shortest length. Unlike other LL Bean messenger bags I have purchased in the past, this particular bag had a sliding adjuster on either side of the shoulder pad, so the strap could only be adjusted up to a certain point. Other bags I have owned had a single adjuster that allowed more control over the length. I am petite, and when fully adjusted, the top of bag fell below my bum, while the bottom of it was lower than my knees. Carrying a heavy load this far below my center of gravity would be impossible. The bag would have been perfect if the strap was shorter, or configured differently, or if I was much much taller.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Shopper7548 Too Heavy, Not enough pockets
I bought this bag and sadly had to return it today.
Pros: Love the look of the bag and the quality. Great compartments on the inside. I think this bag is so durable I would pass it down to my grandchildren.
Cons: This bag is much too heavy (3lbs 8oz) on its own, so when I added a laptop and a few note pads I found it uncomfortable to carry. There is no handle on the top of the bag which makes it difficult to move around. Also, although there is a small top pocket it can really only hold a cellphone, so there should be a few more pockets on the outside for keys etc.

I like what I see in this bag except that it needs a handle on the top in case you want to carry it. It should also be water proof.
