I like the way it looks, very comfortable, breathable, and surprisingly warm considering how thin it is, but a few things keep me from giving it 5 stars.
The inside pockets are so deep it's a bit awkward reaching anything you put in there. The material inside the arms grabs your shirt sleeves as you put the jacket on and it takes a bit of wrestling to get comfortable again. Lastly, the velcro wrist straps snag when you pull your hands of of your pockets.
Overall, great jacket, just wish for a few minor changes.

After a few weeks of using this newest version of the Pathfinder Soft-Shell, I find that I liked the old edition better.
This Pathfinder does have some improvements. The overall fit is not as loose in the chest, and the interior fleece grid provides better insulation than before.
Unfortunately, there are 2 small issues: first, the velcro cuff closures are not easy to use because the "hook" portion has no easy area to grip and pull. It ends up poking my fingers with the scratchy hooks. Even worse, the hook portion is glued onto some kind of rubber backing, which peeled off when I washed the jacket and now looks terrible. Second, the colors of the fabric are too bright. I don't want to be as bright as a neon sign.
This jacket could be a 5-star item if Bean changes the velcro cuffs to have the hook portion sewn onto a fabric backing that makes it durable and easy to pull. Toning down the colors would be nice as well.
The jacket is still good enough for me to use, but I won't buy more copies of this edition. Hopefully it will improve next year.

I'm 5'7, 155lb. I wear a slim fit, 15.5" collar with 32" sleeves dress shirt. I wear a size 40s suit..
I bought a medium regular sized LLBean Pathfinder soft-shell jacket. The medium regular sleeves run long on me (the sleeves are 34" long). Other than the sleeve length the jacket fits well (not too loose and not too tight). Jacket length falls just below my waist. The velcro closing cuffs are a perfect addition for people that wear a short sized jacket. The velcro keeps the sleeves from drapping passed my knuckles. LLBean, will you introduce men's clothing in short size?

Rated 4 out of 5 by CanadaWoods Great looking jacket in two tone grey.
I bought this soft-shell for the Canadian winter woods as the
(third layer) to be combined with a fleece jacket (second layer)
and spandex top and bottom long johns base layer (first layer)
I bought an XL size to fit over a fleece jacket which it does nicely.
Snug but not tight. Soft-shell jackets work best when they
are snug so your moisture can wick away through all 3
layers of clothing. If the soft-shell is baggie in size it can't
do that. The finish of this jacket is amazing for the price point
with the national brand names costing twice as much.
This is my first nylon soft-shell which will be more abrasion
resistant than polyester soft-shells I have had in the past.
Soft-shell jackets are NOT 100% waterproof and only repel
water so pick your weather. What they do provide is great
wind blocking, moisture wicking breathability and range
of motion for outdoor activities. As far as performance goes
I have not had the jacket out in winter yet and will do a
follow up review once winter hits up here in the Canadian
woods but I expect no problems from the jacket. If it
passes the winter test combined with the other 2 layers
of clothing it will be a 5 star jacket.
L.L. Bean is an excellent company and a pleasure to deal
with up here in Canada.

Rated 1 out of 5 by ScubaPilot Change for the worse
This was a perfect jacket, now changed for the worse. The "adjustable" cuffs are completely unnecessary as the soft cuffs the previous version had were perfect. The velcro tabs are annoying and scratchy. Leave well-enough alone and go back to making the great jacket it used to be.

I had this jacket for approximately 2 years before returning it for the the Ascent Windstopper Soft Shell Jacket. Haven't received it yet so I can't compare the two jackets. Only reason for returning the Pathfinder Softshell jacket was on occasion the zipper would malfunction. Otherwise great coat that blocked the wind and kept the rain out!

The new Pathfinder soft shell is a good-looking and well-constructed jacket. The only problem for me -- and your results will vary -- is the fit, which is cut too large around the middle for my slim/athletic build. The sleeves are also a few inches too long. If you have an average American build you should be OK. Otherwise, c'mon LL Bean, start making stuff for the rest of us!
