Rated 5 out of 5 by Mantana Warm Feet in Montana Winter
These shoes are quite fabulous. They look good, they feel good, and they keep my feet incredibly warm. I was outside for a half hour the other day with just a regular pair of thick cotton socks on and when I came inside the only thing that wasn't cold was my feet. I like the interchangeable laces but the quality of the shoes is really the best selling point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by EastTennessean1 Nice Tennis Shoes
If you know that you are buying tennis shoes then you will be very happy with your purchase. They are very comfortable and rugged LOOKING. These are not low top boots. They are tennis shoes that look like boots. If you purchase them with that in mind you will be very happy. They are light weight and have good arch support and are well cushioned. I've considered buying a second pair but I'll probably hold off.

Rated 3 out of 5 by UncleCurtis Excellent, but not long lasting
I really enjoy this pair of shoes. They are comfortable, and their appearance is significantly better than some of the other LLBean walking shoes. The sole is also a good tread design, solid traction. Unfortunately, as several others have stated, the sole falls apart woefully fast. The tread wore down and the sole has started to separate significantly within three months of every day use.
If the sole was more durable, I would buy it again without hesitation.

Rated 3 out of 5 by darwin1859 Could be better
These are comfy and stylish but not as durable as I'd expect an LLBean product to be. I only really wear them to the office but they are still losing the soles to peeling off. That and the soles are wearing down faster than most of my other shoes (when scaled to wear-time/mileage).

Rated 5 out of 5 by SDFitz Great Shoes
I bought a pair on sale, looking for a comfortable shoe for work that wasn't a sneaker.
They are ridiculously comfortable, and funky looking, in a good way.
One of the selling points was that they were reported to run narrow. I have narrow feet and they fit mine beautifully. They feel like I am wearing running shoes. I don't know if they run narrow or if the nature of the lacing allows you to tighten them more than the average shoe.
I like them so much I ordered a second pair in the other color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bonasi Definitely more "town" than "mountain"
These shoes are well suited to casual wear that might involve an occasional jaunt onto trails or dirt. They are clearly not built for any sort of serious hiking. With that said, they will certainly serve you far better than a pair of sneakers or running shoes for the occasional hike or foray off pavement. They are lightweight but very well made and contain thick, full top-grain leather that provides far better support than the typical nylon mesh in a pair of running shoes. Stitching is neat and even, with all seams very well placed. The sole is built on a trail-running-shoe last, so it is wide and sturdy enough to take on any sharp rocks or uneven surfaces you might encounter. Traction is very good with the lugs the outsole contains. This shoe would probably also serve you well in light snow, as it will certainly provide ample traction, but you would be well advised to treat the leather with some sort of wax of Sno-Seal before wearing it in wet or snowy conditions. In short, a great shoe for around-town knocking about that would also allow you to walk a mile or two on an unimproved trail and still be comfortable. Also, the alternate set of more subdued shoelaces is also a nice touch--just in case the retro red ones are a bit too vibrant for your tastes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by TanawhaTrekker Great for a while
These arrived and were comfortable out of the box, perfect for getting around town in the winter when the snow isn't so bad that you need boots, and sneakers would get soaked through. I never took them hiking or really put them through much, yet they unfortunately began to fall apart at the sole rather quickly, maybe 4 or 5 months or around 80 miles. They first separated at the heel on both shoes, and then along the sides; the little traction knobs flattened out and the rubber generally smoothed out. It's really a shame because I like them so much both aesthetically and comfort-wise, and I don't think the soles are meant to be replaced so I hardly ever wore them last winter for fear that they would come completely apart on me. It looks like they are on sale right now, I hope that's because they've come up with a new design for the sole, a better adhesive and rubber, and they need to clear the old stock out because I'd love a more durable version.
*I've tried to upload some photos of the soles, but keep getting 504 gateway time-out, if I can edit this review I'll try to add pictures later.

Rated 3 out of 5 by bedeviled Functional shoe
Have been wearing these for a few days since I received them and they quickly became my preferred leisure shoe. The fit is excellent. There is plenty of room in the toe box and, unlike other purchasers, I do not find them narrow. They look like a boot, but don't be fooled by appearance. They are a lightweight shoe with minimal foot-bed padding. I would say the are analogous to a Harley Davidson road bike with a Vespa engine under the cowl. They are as described in the catalog.

My husband loved these but sadly they run narrow. Would have indicated on the scale above but could not get it to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLBeanBirdwatcher Boots for Ecuador
I bought these boots because I needed a new pair for hiking around in Ecuador mountains and rain forests for a week. I squished around in a lot of muddy and wet places, got the shoes really wet and filthy - but my feet stayed dry! The shoes didn't look very good when I got home, as they had "high water" lines on them, but they otherwise held up extremely well. I am female, but with wide feet and these men's shoes fit me well.
