Rated 5 out of 5 by XmasTree Of of those rare purchases
Occasionally, I'll buy something for which I had high expectations, and the product will still surpass those initial expectations. The Benchmade Griptillion is such a purchase.
It's been weeks since I bought it, and I still admire the quality every time I use it, which is often. The lock action is surreally smooth. The edge out of the box was scary sharp. The weight and balance are close to perfect.
I expect going forward, I'll always own and carry a Benchmade.

I have been carrying a CRKT Ripple for a couple years, it is showing its age, so when I saw this knife I thought it might be a bit more bulky than I would like. It is much thicker than my Ripple, but felt really good in my hand, so I bought it. I am glad I did.
Although I prefer a flipper, I figured I could get used to the stud deployment. I soon found that manipulation of the axis lock is faster and easier than using the stud.
I was a bit anxious about tip up only with the pocket clip. I am pleased to say that I am a convert, the blade is between the handle and the edge of my pocket, so it won't open there.
The clip is painted, and is showing some wear, bluing would have been a better finish choice.
The handle is quality plastic and feels solid with most of it covered in checkering and jimping. It does not catch on cotton pants.
The blade was sharp from the factory and takes an edge well. It was centered in the handle when I got it and it still is. It locks up tight with virtually no perceived movement up or down, left or right. There are better steels out there, but not many, and it is a good compromise for a blade that will be carried close to your body.
This knife is made in the U.S. and a great example of a quality tool.

Sharp blade. Hefty, solid feel, yet very light. Made in USA. I caught a sale and bought two: One with partially serrated blade and orange handle for when out on the water.
