I've had three of these pants in two colors for a few years.
I wash them on gentle cycle and hung them to dry. The pants shrink a little in length and the lining doesn't. So, the lining hangs down anywhere from 1/8" to a full inch, depending on how much I pull on the pant leg to stretch them after they come out of the washer.
I didn't return them, but I wish I had.

Rated 1 out of 5 by bigorangefan Extremely disappointed in fit and quality
After waiting through several shipping delays and receiving these pants as a Christmas gift I couldn't wait to wear them. Before trying them on I noticed the plaids were extremely mismatched. This is so unusual for a quality plaid pant that I have expect from LL Bean. After wearing them one time and being miserable with the fit, I am returning them for a refund. I am 5"3" but the rise is too high; I am not sure who could wear these pants. Next time I will rethink waiting for a pair of pants that are backordered for so long. Overall, these pants are terrible although I like the colors and style.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MaggieD Lining problem!
I just love these pants! The material is very soft and warm, and the cut is comfortable. The legs are somewhat wide and fit nicely over snow boots. The only problem is the lining! After washing as directed, the lining hangs down about 3/4 inch below the pants hem, and it is bunched up inside the leg, too wide. I can't believe LLBean didn't test for this beforehand! It's a treat to find reasonably priced, lined pants these days, but this is a definite manufacturing flaw.

These pants saved me repeatedly through 3.5 wet, cold and muddy weeks in Ireland this Christmas. The fact that they are true to size after a washing (hang dry) is a major plus. They were also nice and warm in some pretty chilly temperatures. I had a limited wardrobe for this long vacation and my two pair of Weekend pants really saw me through.

These are great way to gear up for the cold winter. They feel warm and are lined. I haven't tried washing them but the quality looks good like it will hold up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by JrHiTeacher Love, but too big
Love these pants but they have to go back. Size 4 (unfortunately the smallest size) is about an inch too big in the waist and about 4 inches too large in the hips.
PLEASE make clothes for us smaller people.

Rated 1 out of 5 by calholly Boy was this a mistake
This trousers are: (1) way too red; and (2) way too big. The color is very different than shown on the website. If you don't love deep red, don't order these. But okay, I know that colors don't always run true on the computer. Still, probably shouldn't have called this color "raisin brown." If I saw a raisin this color I would definitely not eat it. More troubling, though, is the sizing problem. I'm 5'8", 135 lbs. I ordered a size 8. It's at least three sizes too large -- big in the waist, humongous in the thighs and rear end, and several inches too long. LLBean, please get your sizing consistent. Depending on the pant, I seem to wear anywhere from a 2 to a 10. That makes it pretty tough to order pants.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NSBeangirl Very Large Trousers
I have bought a lot of clothes at LL Bean and usually a size 18 (tall or med. tall) is my size. These trousers were very very large! They were like clown pants - too large even to be altered. I wonder if they were mislabelled? They could be size 22! I considered returning for a smaller size, but I'm wary now and have to pay for the return (from Canada). The rise is extremely high. Having complained about the fit, the material and construction is v. good and I have no problem with the quality, just the fit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by HoustonCajun Mixed blessing--but I kept the pants
The exterior fabric and the lining seem to be high quality fabric, and the gray color is quite nice. I tried on a pair with the regular waistband and a pair with the special, expandable (not contractible) waistband. In a size 6 regular, the waistline of both styles is much larger than it is in other LL Bean size 6 regular pants, and the rise is lower. The waistband sits below the waistline, not at the waistline as claimed in the product description. The waist is so large that I had to tighten my belt by two notches in order to make the pants with the regular waistband fit reasonably well. The size 6 regular with the special waistband was similarly loose and had the added demerit of thickness at the elastic spots. I sent that pair back. In both pairs, the legs seemed to be longer than the legs are on the other LL Bean size 6 regular pants styles that I usually wear.
Nevertheless, the pants that I kept are attractive, and I wore them out of the box to dinner at a nice restaurant. I had only to mist the packing creases with water and toss the pants into the dryer for a few minutes. They came out looking freshly ironed. I am eager to see how the pants emerge after going through a full washer and dryer cycle.
Note: The exterior fabric does look like wool but is soft, heavy cotton.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ShopperInCinci Well cut, versatile, warm pants
I have several of these pants in the regular waist style and am wearing them often during our sub-zero spate of cold weather. Overall, I find them perfect for dressing up with blazers and heels and dressing down with sweaters and boots. The fit is a bit loose but the cut is such that they don't look big on me. I have a size 4 and, with rather wider hips, a 2 (if available) might not work. So I do need a belt to keep them at my waist. I'm between petite and regular height so I chose regular based on the potential for shrinkage, and they are fine. I have not experienced any issues with washing, but I do wash them on gentle cycle, warm to cool water and dry with low to med heat.
