by mileswimmer Hope you are wearing these when stranded!
I ordered these capris to take on vacation with me (minus the liner) because of the ravings here about using them for travel. I almost sent them back because the mediums seemed a bit large for me and there were no smalls available. Then others' helpful comments here helped me find the elastic waist adjustments that made them workable. I wore them on the plane to France while the airline proceeded to lose our luggage. They ended up being the only pair of pants I had for the next 8 days - the whole trip. (To get me through the week I also bought a simple sundress, extra shirt and a bathing suit to go with the change of shirt and underwear I already had in the L L Bean backpack I'd used as a carry-on.) These pants were comfortable and breathable and would easily dry overnight when I washed them out. In fact I even went swimming in them the 2nd day when we chanced upon a swimming spot on our drive, before I'd purchased the swimsuit. They dried in 2 hours and were not uncomfortable while I wore them damp following the swim when I had only a dry shirt to change into. I wish I could buy more in a different color to replace the pants in my suitcase, which appears to be permanently gone (along with some other favorite L L Bean items). Circumstances made these pants one of the best purchases I'm grateful to have made!

Just received these Capris and love them. Got the large and they fit great. I'm usually a large in LL Bean so stuck with that size regardless of the reviews saying they run big. I bought these for hiking. I needed the stretch for climbing up mts and think these will be just great. I remove the biking short portion with the padding. That might come in handy someday for bike rental, but bought these strictly for hiking. Please come out with durable hiking pants with stretch. Extremely important for middle-aged women hiking.

Rated 2 out of 5 by jsusanp They look great on. The liner fit is disappointing
I loved the way the capris looked on me and the adjustable waist made that work. But the bike shorts underneath are baggy and ride up on the leg. It is as if the liner was made a size larger than the outer pant. Maybe my legs are just too thin from all my bike riding, but the shorts were a disappointment and I returned them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Frenchy Beware! The waist is adjustable
I can not comment on the effectiveness on these as cyclist pants, since I am not a cyclist and have never been on a motorcycle. I ordered them as travel pants because of the pockets. I do not carry a pocketbook when I travel. There are four pockets -- two regular side pockets which are of medium depth, a back pocket with a zipper and a very nice zippered pocket along the thigh.
I usually wear a large. Because of the reviews I ordered two pairs of medium and two pairs of large. Without the inner shorts, the mediums were tight in the waist and hips. The larges are huge in the waist. I had almost finished this review and was going to take them back when I remembered something about an adjustable waist. Sure enough there are elastic strips with several button holes inside the pants on both sides. I moved the button to the fifth hole on each side and I now have pants that fit and that I will keep.
I did try the pants on with the inner shorts. I felt like I was wearing a corset. The bottom of the shorts' legs were also tight on me. Since I got these pants on the daily special, it doesn't bother me that I will not use this part of the product.
The pants seem to be well made and of good quality. I almost did not order them because one reviewer said that they did not come up to her waist. I have a long torso. I always order a medium tall when available. These pants DO up to my waist. I also like the belt loops since I like to wear belts.
The main feature that is making me keeps these pants is the zippered pocket on the thigh. When I don't want to carry a purse, I will feel safe putting my car keys, money, credit cards, and even my passport in this pocket. I wish that there were a zippered pocket on both thighs. It would be even better if ALL pockets had zippers. The back zippered pocket isn't all that useful since it is uncomfortable to have things in a back pocket when sitting down or riding in a car.
I would really appreciate it if Bean would make travel pants in a variety of colors with lots of zippered pockets and a variety of sizes including medium tall that go up to the waist.

Rated 2 out of 5 by AnnH Extremely huge
I had to return these because contrary to how they fit the model in the picture, these were extremely huge at every measurement point. I am pear shaped, but these looked as if I had ordered 3 sizes too big. I have never ordered something from LL Bean that was this badly mis-sized.

Rated 2 out of 5 by PlainOhTexas Nice idea, but sized too large
The style of the pant is almost identical to the Comfort hiking Capri that I purchased last year in a petite 6. I really liked it, and it had a roomy fit. The Comfort Cycling Capri did not come in petite or have an XS size, so I ordered size S, which may be a size 8 as it was about 2 inches larger in the waist. If this cycling Capri had been available in petite, it might work as the idea of the snap out padded cycling short is appealing. It only has two snaps on the sides though, and might benefit from a snap in the back as well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Peacebugg Fiar for casual riding, Size Runs Big
Purchased these for myself, my mother and a friend.
The pants are light weight and quick drying. They run very big!
They have adjustable straps on the inside waist band which is helpful but in my case not enough as the rest of the pants are too large as well.
my friend and mother like their fits well and say they are comfortable while riding.
Mine were very large all around. waist, legs and long zipper.
I ordered a small (108lbs, 5'5"). Perhaps the xs would be better.
Overall they run large.
The interior spandex with camios are not of professional quality but again fair for casual riders. They attach on the inside of the capris with a few loops with snaps and can be removed. This is convenient for riding to an event, removing them to be left with comfy casual pants. The camios is foam not gel.

These pants are versatile in that they can be worn as crops without the bike pant padded insert which is easily removed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JJtravels Best travel & sport capri ever
I first purchased a pair if these capris about 8 years ago and they quickly became my favorite go-to summer wear for hot days and travelling. I don't know why they are marketed as a bike Capri - they work for that, yes, but are excellent for any hot-weather activity that requires flexibility and also requires you to carry along 'stuff'. The most important feature to me, which makes them better than all other sport pants, is the excellent pockets. The thigh pocket is big enough to hold my passport and a few cards & cash, making it perfect for travelling securely. It will also hold my iphone. The front pockets are deep but with the zippered pocket on the thigh, you don't ever have to worry about things falling out. The back pockets are zippered too and I sometimes use them for small things I don't mind sitting on. I wore or packed these capris for every single trip hiking, camping, biking, day-tripping, or international travelling for several years before I realized I couldn't live without them so I purchased another pair. I've now had that pair for about 4 years and have been similarly pleased. Note that the fabric looks more like a slick dress pant than a sports pant, which makes them appropriate wear for slightly dressier events too. I've searched for comparably functional full-length pants like these for years so that I can use them later in the season or for situations where capris aren't appropriate. LL Bean, please make sure you NEVER get rid of these and start to market them to a broader crowd as the perfect travel capri; make the full-length version too. I love them!
