We are still in the initial stages of training but so far it it doing what it was designed to do. He is even more behaved on our nightly leash walks though i don't use it then. It was a good investment.

Has continued to work when a cheaper one bought online quit after 2 weeks. Mild shock. Vibration alone works most of the time. We knew we could return it with no problem at LLBean if it pooped out on us, so it posed no risk of wasted money. I have been pleased with other Garmin products..

As a first time dog owner I was VERY hesitant with buying an electronic collar for my yellow lab (1.5 years old). However she knew all too well that if she wasn't on her leash that we just couldn't catch her.
The first week we had the collar we put it on her and never "corrected" her a single time, just to get her used to wearing it every day and to prevent her from becoming collar-wise. After the first week of correcting her with the E-collar I don't think I've had to use it more than a dozen times since (been nearly 3 months). She listens now whether she's on her leash or off. She still wears it every day but I go weeks without having to use the electronic correction. Best purchase I've made for my dog (aside from her crate) to date.
100% recommend. Range is great, corrections are consistent, and she always responds quickly.

The Garmin collar is alright, but not exceptional. The remote is not user friendly. The control keys do not indicate their function. Previous remote devices have had differentiation with either color or texture. Hence preventing the user from 'shocking' the dog when a 'tone' was appropriate. There is a guide on the 'screen', however, it is difficult to read in the bright sunlight. The 'shock' function is set very conservatively. Typically, my dog responds and cooperates with just the tone. However, if he is in physical danger, I use the shock function. I currently have the level set at 13, and he doesn't always react. I need to experiment with grooming his hair underneath his neck to ensure contact with the prongs.
On the positive side, the charging device is compact and efficient, with a light indicating when charging is complete. The collar is light weight. I appreciate the three correction levels. The vibration seems to secure my dog's attention if he doesn't respond to the tone.
Overall, the collar is satisfactory.
