Rated 5 out of 5 by Buckfield I had to try them twice, but don't give up on them
I have a two year old pair of brown Merrell boots that are absolutely perfect, and I mean absolutely. I have worn them every work day from November - April and now that I've put mink oil on them, they look pretty darn good. But I had saved my coupons and wanted to get a black pair. Merrell unfortunately changed the styling of their waterproof work boots and I think this one is the closest. It IS narrower and a little taller than my beloved. I had actually ordered a pair, tried them on, couldn't zip them and returned them, heartbroken that Merrell can no longer make perfect boots. I read some on line reviews off the LL Bean website and another persistent women suggested trying to work that zipper closed and that the boots have a bit of give (actually there is a little piece of elastic material near the zipper on the top, and this does "give." After ordering and rejecting every other waterproof boot LL Bean has, I went to the store and tried them all on. I had my corduroy pants on that are sort of like running pants, and the zipper DID go over the boots. I had to order my color, and I've worn them for 3 straight days, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 or 6 p.m. They are not as perfect as my older Merrells #which I wore to my visit to LL Bean, by the way# but they are pretty darn close. They are a 9 of 10 where the last pair are 10's. Don't give up on these boots!

Rated 5 out of 5 by sunshinemom great versatile boot
I recently ordered this boot in brown and am happy with my purchase. I also really liked the kork ease brand boot from the signature line but with the expensive price of each, I felt the Merrell Captiva boot matched my style a bit more and that overall I'd get more use out of it. It looks great either dressed up or down, with jeans, leggings, or tights and skirts whether running errands around town or dressing up for work. The fact that it's waterproof makes it great for wearing on snowy or rainy cold New England days. The rubber sole gives it great traction as well. I have this model in black from a few years ago and often use it as a winter boot. My calf measures 14" and I don't feel that it's too snug at all, fits comfortably.

Rated 5 out of 5 by eluna I love these
I do have skinny calves (about 12") and these actually are a bit floppy on my legs, but they are comfortable on my feet and waterproof, AND I can wear them with dresses unlike my
pack boots, so it's a win for me. I did have to return the 9 1/2 s and get 10 s instead, but I'm normally in between so it was a tough call.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WinnipegMom Perfect fit for me!
I had been dreaming of a new pair of boots for some time, but I'm very particular because I don't wear heels and I have very high arches, so I did my research. I had my eye on these boots, but was unable to find them in a store where I live. Since they are fairly expensive, I really wanted to make sure they would work for me before I ordered them. Somebody posted that these boots were made for people with high arches and skinny calves, which is a good description of myself, so I took the plunge and ordered the boots! They fit perfectly! I normally wear a size 8.5, and these were true to size in the foot. I have a little bit of wiggle room, and I may add a thin insole for the winter. They are snug around the calf, but I can even still wear them over my skinny jeans. For reference, the widest part of my calf is 14.5" in circumference. All that said, I'm thankful that people review their purchases, even if they just give 2 stars, because it really helped me make a purchase that was perfect for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Buckfield LOVE my 2 year old Merrills but not these!
For two November through April's I have work my brown Merrill boots every single work day - they are so comfortable, stylish, waterproof for Maine's slushy wet wiinters. I've been saving my LL Bean coupons all year to purchase a new pair, in Black, to save my beloved brown pair. These would be PERFECT if they were not so NARROW as to be impossible to zip up! I pulled out my tried and true brown ones and they zip right up, and over skinny jeans too! Merrill, please make your boots for real human women!!! I am 5'4" 117 lbs - regular boots should fit me! I want to buy them but cannot, Merrill or LL Bean, please help!

Rated 2 out of 5 by whitewolfe001 For people with very skinny calves and high arches
I wanted to love these. I've been searching everywhere for a boot I could wear in the office but was also waterproof so I don't have to carry and switch shoes just for the walk from the car to the door in winter conditions. I had high hopes for these and wanted to love them!
First of all, it is obvious that they are quality boots and the leather is very nice.
However, I was very surprised to find I could almost not zip them up! I must have a very average calf because I have many pairs of tall boots and have never once had a tightness issue.
I could have lived with the snugness, after all, real leather will stretch. But the footbed was uncomfortable for me also, because as a person who does not need arch support, the support in this shoe felt like I was stepping on a ball.
Even if I could get past those two issues, they weren't quite as sleek looking as I had hoped. They would pass in an office, I'd say, but in person I found them a bit clunky looking, a bit too 'outdoorsy'.
Too many issues for me to overlook in a $200 boot, so they went back.
If you have a skinnier-than-average calf and high arches, this would be a good boot for you.

I guess I like boots that don't swim on my calves. I am athletic, 5' 4" with short legs, 14.5" circumference at the widest. Not stick thin by any means. These boots allow me to put regular jeans over them without poking out funny, and skinny jeans within. These are super comfortable (that is relative--personally I do not like 'great arch support' that hits my arch in the exact wrong spot) and are silent when you walk, (I hate the clop clop.) I wore them during a rainy weekend in Seattle; they kept me dry and warm. My only negative? A few times I felt I might kinda slide. Ergo, the traction is not 100%. I wear a 7 or a 7.5, the 7 fit really well.

I have plantar fasciitis and was looking for good arch support. These boots hit the mark. It is an added bonus that they are so attractive! I love them with everything I put on. I hope I can find something as comfy for the summer months.

Rated 2 out of 5 Lovely Boot; Too Narrow!
The quality of the boots is immediately apparent--rich leather, well constructed, comfortable footbed. Sadly, I couldn't get the boots zipped up even halfway! I even tried with no socks or pants tucked in at all and it still wouldn't work. I am 5'3", 125 lbs. and have a 15" calf. I didn't think this would bump me up into a wide calf, but it would for this boot. I am returning for a different pair.
