I've been searching high and low for Ponte pants for a pear shaped girl. Most of them are glorified leggings and I was very excited about these with a straight leg that can balance out my thicker hips and thighs and these absolutely hit the mark! However, I sized down from what the size chart said to do based on my measurements and they're huge. They washed nicely but stretch an incredible amount during wear. I normally wear a petite and thought that might be the reason that the rise is so ridiculously high but other reviewers have noted the same. The hip puckers are also an issue for me as well. They are so comfortable that I just ordered a second pair in a size down. I'll see how those are and then decide what I do with my current, very large, pair.

I bought these pants in early summer, so two months ago. I have worn them since about three times a week to work. They hold up well to the washing but they did shrink one inch in length.. I don't use the dryer on my Bean garments. However my biggest complaint is how the waist stretched about two inches. I can now pull them down over my hips without undoing the zipper and tab closure. These are being returned for a smaller pair because Mr. Bean wants me to be 100% satisfied with my purchase and right now I am not as thrilled about this purchase as I was when I first got them. My weight is still the same as it was 2 months ago. When I bought the pants the waist measured 34". After wearing them it is now 36". Looking forward to the new pair as these are beautiful pants for the working class.

beautiful fabric although I'm not sure that ponte knit should be topstitched as these are down the side seams. they are long on the leg length, 31 1/2", not 30 as stated in the catalogue. I bought size 14. waist is 34". yes they do pucker along the hip side seam but I do believe that is due from inaccurate design proportions not from pulling as they were sewn as some reviews have suggested. also they are a classic fit which is generous on the hip. another reason they pucker on the side seam is due to the fact that the pockets are made of the same weight of fabric thus giving 4 layers of fabric at the pocket area. perhaps a finer fabric for the pockets would have reduced the bulk of the seam. all in all a nice, nice pant for casual wear but not dressy. the hem on the leg is only 1/2" wide and is topstitched as well. I am keeping mine because they feel so nice on the skin and have a higher waist for the working class middle aged woman. waist closure does protrude but that is again due to all the layers of fabric. nicely made of heavy, drapey ponte.

It is great, but I would love to be able to buy the same one in navy blue and/or taupe or sand.

I was hoping that these pants would be the ultimate casual work day pant. I ordered them in my usual size 4, afraid that the 30" length would be too short for my normally 32" insearm. It turns out that the inseam is actually more like 31 1/2 inches, so the length was fine. I did like the quality and thickness of the ponte fabric and do not feel that is resembles sweat pant fabric. There was one major dealbreaker, that I am nor sure is true for every pair of these pants, but was true for the one gray and one black pair that I purchased. On both sides of the hips on each pair of pants, there was distinct puckering of the upper hip side seams where they were sewn over the edge of the pockets. This created ripples of fabric on both sides of each hip area on each pair that I had--the rippling was easily visible and would ruin what should be a smooth line over each hip. I am not sure if I want to order them again to see if this was just peculiar to the 2 pair that I had, or if this was present in all of that pants that were made. I am also considering opening the side stitching and see if I could sew a smoother seam. That would be a tedious repair to make, but would rescue the bulging, rippling seams from ruining the smooth look of the pants. I would only bother to do the repair because the pants are so soft and otherwise fit OK.
I would only recommend these to women who have a pear-shaped hip area, which would stretch the fabric there and make the rippling less noticeable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by ShopperInCinci Not sure what these are designed for
I tried these pants hoping they would be a comfortable business casual option. The material was nice, felt comfy, but the cut was awkward. I bought these in a 4 regular which usually just fits me or is a bit roomy. These pants were very long as noted by others. They also fit rather tight in odd places such as the thighs. The major reason I returned them was the awkward bulge at the hips where the pocket was joined at the side seam. There was a definite bulge at the hips. It seems the pants were cut to cling like sweat or yoga pants but designed to be like dress pants with bulkier pocket and side seams. The cut should be a bit more generous in hips and thighs; perhaps cut like Bean's weekend pants.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BreadbakingMom comfy! Great for traveling!
I just traveled internationally for 2 1/2 weeks and these were the only pants I brought. They are super comfortable. Waist was perfect if I wore a belt. These are a little long but I was wearing boots much of the time. As I transitioned back into the US this weekend I wore them to work a show and they looked professional and were comfortable. I did buy a 12--145 lbs/5' 2 1/2" tall--and they did shrink a bit after washing/drying. I wish they offered these in other colors because I'd far rather wear these out and about than jeans or other knit pants.

Rated 1 out of 5 by InRI Had to return - very poor quality
Although these pants fit me well, I had to return them. The material feels and looks thin and cheap. Worse, the button/hook closure stuck out so much, I had to cover it up with a heavy sweater if I ever wanted to wear these pants. I am 5'6" and 125 lbs and bought a size 4.

Loved the material, not as heavy as other ponte knit pants I have, but I agree with another reviewer, each side has 2 distinct bulges. It has happened because of stretching while sewing the pocket area. I ordered 2 pairs. I kept the black and am currently trying to take the seams apart and resew. I returned the gray because the light color made this defect more noticeable. Also the hook at the waist is not placed properly so it doesn't lie flat. Buy only if wearing tunic length with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Cora55 great pants but has some flaws
I have these pants in grey and black. They are two of the most comfortable pants I have ever worn. They run small so I ordered a size up and they fit great. Unfortunately, they have a few problems. The hook on the waist does stick out as another reviewer said. I'm not sure if it's sewn wrong or what the problem is. I usually wear long shirts or sweaters so it's not noticeable but I know it's there. The zipper in the grey pair I have seems to be sewed wrong but I can't quite figure out exactly what the problem is. Once again, the hook does not lay flat. It's too bad these pants have these problems because I really like everything else about them. They wash great. I see they are marked down now and I assume it's because of these problems I mentioned. I am not sure if I am keeping them or not. The really are very comfortable and very flattering.
