Bought it for my husband for our ski trips. It is very hard to find snow-pants for tall people to begin with, let alone Gore-Tex pants at reasonable price, so I jumped on it when it was on sale. He hasn't used it yet as it is not insulated and the temperature in NE is low, but I have confident in LLBean products. I did have to exchange to a larger size for him though. Other than that, it seems to be a great buy. Can't wait to test it out in the snow.

Found these in the local store when the Arctic came to visit recently. Very comfortable, very nice to have warm, dry, and nice looking pants for all conditions. Nicely made, quality materials really like this product.

I normally don't buy anything Gore-Tex because, despite what they say, it doesn't breath well at all. This Gore-Tex Pro Shell though is a HUGE improvement. I used them all last winter for hiking/snowshoeing in the High Peaks. I sweat a lot and had no problems with these pants. I also did some snowboarding with them. I'm a horrible snowboarder and these pants made it through my countless falls without even a scuff. The durability is impressive!
My only complaint is with the sizing. I originally bought them in small based on the sizing chart. They were very tight in the butt so I had to return them for mediums. I'm 5'8", 170lbs with a 32" waist and 29" inseam. I know I have short legs so I'm not complaining because they're too long. Most pants are too long on me. The problem I had was the side zipper. Because the pants are too long, they'd bunch up a bit around the knee and the zipper would rub on my leg. It could get pretty annoying by the end of a 8-10 hour hike. If you have a short inseam, I'd look elsewhere. Otherwise, I'd say these are every bit as good as the Arc'Teryx alternative.

by Baystate74 Great ski pants for both inbounds and out o bound
I held off from reviewing these pants until I had an entire ski season in them. After 30+ days on snow in New England, British Columbia and Utah, I can now say that these are excellent! If you're looking for a technical shell that are reasonably priced, this is it. I was in the market for Gore Tex Pro Shell bibs and pants and canvassed a lot of outlets. These are one of the cheapest. I've skied in these in blizzards (both powder and wet snow) and in the driving rain and they've kept me dry. I only wear a thin baselayer underneath the shell and they've kept me warm up to -20F.
I've also done a few short ski tours in these and the fabric did what it was supposed to do -- let perspiration escape so there's no cold clammy feeling. Side vents are good for those days when you are overheating on the trail and on warm spring skiing days. Lightweight material is a plus on long hikes. Easily packable.
The legs seem to be trimmer than the former model which is a good thing so it doesn't flap in the wind and get in the way of other gear. There are hooks and drawstrings at the leg hem to make them a bit shorter. Helpful for hiking.
On the other hand, the suspenders could be improved (D rings or tabs instead of velcro) but they do the job for now. I like that the suspenders have a tab in the back so that they don't slide down your shoulders (an improvement over older models). Backcountry skiing can be abusive on gear and I've already managed to snap the belt buckle. Luckily, Bean is replacing the belt.
LL Bean first came up with the Ascent Pro Shell ski pants about four years ago. I would have bought the first model but the fit was too loose and it had other issues that made it unsuitable for my purposes. This particular model of the Ascent pants is an improvement on that and I think it is worth the investment.

Was looking for Gore-Tex Pro pants. I like the suspenders and all the pockets. I wear a 34 to 35. I ordered the M which was ok in the waist but way to long and to snug in the bottom. I ended up with a pair of Arc'teryx large short. I got them for about the same price.
