Saw this item in the catalog and thought it would be great for our new home. Our neighborhood isn't even on the map!!! Not going to bother putting it together when it missed the mark by at least 6 miles. :(

I got this puzzle from my son and daughter-in-law for Christmas. It was awesome. I have been in my home since 1975 (my son grew up here) so having a puzzle piece shaped like a house in the center of the puzzle with a topo/street map of my surrounding neighborhood was awesome. It is a tricky puzzle in that many puzzle piece shapes are very similar so you really need to concentrate. I was pleased that I could do the whole puzzle without a single reference to a city map. I know these streets.
I was able to frame the finished puzzle, finding a poster dimension (13x19) frame at Michaels as this puzzle is not a standard size. Though you could upsize a frame and mat out the extra space if you have the room to display something that big.
In addition, this would make a GREAT housewarming gift to a new homeowner.

Ordered two puzzles. One of my husband's childhood home and one of our home now. His childhood home puzzle was a success. He enjoyed all the memories that the different streets and areas brought up as we put it together. He was much better at that one - since he knew the lakes, ponds, changing of street names, etc. And once put together, it was lovely to look at. The colors were soothing - blues, greens and tans. He grew up in the northeast. Now that we live in the West - our home puzzle was a bit more difficult. Not as many landmarks to help us out. Finished it was a lot of tans and browns. A few tiny bits of blues for small lakes and ponds. We had to really think about the streets we drive on regularly. As we realized we don't pay much attention to the names of streets as we zip past them!
For those that were disappointed in their puzzle - it may have to do with your location. Rural areas just won't have as many details. And the maps are not super recent (our home one did not include some major changes in streets in our area that have happened in the last 10 years).
For a 400 piece puzzle, we did find it challenging, but all in a good way. I am ordering more for my husband's siblings of their childhood home.

Rated 1 out of 5 by WROXY Great Idea, Frustrating Reality
I was excited to receive this puzzle as a gift. I love jigsaw puzzles but this one was so frustrating, it sucked all the enjoyment out of the experience. First off, a photo of the puzzle is not included so it's difficult to orient the puzzle. Second, the pieces are cut in a way that makes it virtually impossible to know if you have the right ones interlocking. Great idea but poor quality and execution.

Received as a gift. Puzzle pieces so generically cut, there were many possible (and wrong) combinations. House centerpiece was not labeled with my street name (even though it was ordered with my exact address). Only some streets labeled. And, even though it was copyrighted 2015, a pre-2010 map of my area was used, missing a major (and the only) bridge onto the island. Perhaps because these map puzzles are being manufactured in the UK? Poor all-around. Very disappointing coming from L.L. Bean. Would not recommend.

I love this challenging puzzle, which my husband gave me for Christmas. Because of geographic proximity, it included the town I grew up in, the town I live in, and the one I work in. I had a lot of fun putting it together although I had to use a magnifying glass to read some of the street names. And I found myself scrutinizing street signs as I was driving! I loved the fact that just because I found an "edge" it wasn't necessarily part of the frame, it could also be my "own" house. Thanks, LLBean!

My husband loves making puzzles. He usually makes puzzles with a 1000 pieces, but this one was 400 pieces and the most difficult one he has ever made. The pieces were really small and everything was green and had not much of details. He had to use a magnifying glass. We were three of us to help him. It was frustrating that the locations were not all accurate. I felt bad for our son who gave it to him. It was not worth the price of $40.00. We usually frame the nice ones that are worth a lot but this one will be framed and place in the basement. Thought LLBean would offer something better than this puzzle.

I enjoy jigsaw puzzles and received the topographic hometown puzzle as a gift. Maybe I would have had better luck with the aerial version, but I found this so difficult it was frustrating. I live in a rural area near a small village, and the only section I had luck with was the village, since I knew the location of all the streets. Even then, the pieces fit together in an odd way which made them look wrong even when they weren't.
For the rest, even though I knew the location of many roads, it was like finding a needle in a haystack. Most pieces had only 3 or 4 letters of a road name, so I had to guess what they might be. With everything being green, gray or off-white, and no picture for a guide, it was very confusing. As another reviewer noted, the writing is very small.

Hubby and I are having a great time completing this puzzle, which we received as a Christmas gift. We've lived in our area for over 30 years but we are discovering streets and roads we're totally unfamiliar with. This is definitely a challenging puzzle, but more addictive than potato chips!
