Rated 5 out of 5 by dsgorelick Comfortable hike
We have been hiking for a while but this is our first winter hiking. Given the New England snow, we purchased these snowshoes expecting that we would be able to hike with them on. That is, walk fairly naturally rather than walking like a robot with snowshoes that would not flex. We used them for the first time yesterday and did 5 miles quite comfortably. These are not ideal for deep powder which we tested when we went off the trails into the fresh snow in the woods, but icy or semi-packed snow along the trails was totally fine - allowed a very natural stride. Since we are more interested in hiking rather than venturing off in deep snow, these fit our needs quite well. I was concerned after ordering as I found some sites with reviews complaining about the BOA bindings being unreliable, breaking rather easily. They were very easy to use which makes it worth the risk in my opinion. Just in case, I figured out a backup option, tore a rag into 3 thin strips and carried them in my pocket. They can be tied together and to the sides of the binding to at least allow me to finish the hike if a binding breaks while out hiking. With LL Bean's warranty I am not too concerned. We are very pleased with this purchase. I will post again if further use ends up with a different experience.
