We LOVED these in the Toddler version!!! We are now in the XS size and were bummed when my daughter immediately asked "Can I take them off, it's too tight up here!" So when I went to check, it did feel quite tight! Definitely need to either loosen up this elastic, or provide an alternate option similar to the Toddler version. I realize they try to make the elastic more snug to keep the snow out, but my daughter is thin and they most definitely were too snug when I pulled at them. Aside from the tight cuff, these mittens otherwise provide excellent warmth and were waterproof (I mean, after being out in the snow for a long while, of course even the most waterproof mitten or glove will eventually become wet when it comes to children!). We love these and hope the cuffs improve so we do not have to go to other retailers, We love Beans and desperately want these to be made to be more comfortable!

Maybe they resolved the elastic situation that everyone is writing about because I had the opposite problem. I measured my 7 year old boy's hands exactly as described. The mittens arrived and they looked huge. I easily slipped them onto my hands. Other than the sizing issue, they were wonderfully warm and durable. My 9 year old daughter (who has hands the same size as mine) ended up wearing them. Maybe call to verify the "how to size" instructions on the site are correct?

My 6.5 year old is pleased with this mitten. I would prefer an improved clip to hold them together (I can't clip them together, it's too tough to use, not sure if ours is simply defective? How about the small buckle clips that your adult mittens have?).
They're warm and waterproof so far, in WET WET snow, his hands stay dry and warm.

These mittens are great. They are really warm and haven't leaked yet. My 11-year-old was excited that we found them. He prefers mittens and there aren't many available for kids his age. I had a difficult time finding the right size. I measured the kids' hands like it says to do. My suggestion would be, if in doubt, go with a bigger size. The elastic in the wrist does not have a lot of room to give. My younger son is a little on the husky side and he has a hard time getting his hand in the mitten because the wrist is tight. If we are bundling up to go out and he gets a little sweaty, it is almost impossible to cram his hand in there. He has tried his brother's bigger size and it is a little better, but the length is pretty long. I appreciate that LL Bean is trying to make them sized closely to the individual's needs, but a little more room would be nice. We could always cinch them tighter with the velco wrist strap.

The Kid's Cold Buster Waterproof Mittens are awesome! It took me a while to notice that they have 150g insulation versus the typical 40g that you find in the box stores. That's a good amount of insulation for little hands. No glove/mitten is waterproof but these are very water resistant. A toss into the dryer with all of the other outerwear for one cycle and they are good to go. Other mittens have taken two or 3 cycles to get completely dry on the inside. I bought one pair for each for my two grade school kids and they love them. Even they say they are the warmest mittens they have, and we have had some unusual cold this year. Their outdoor play time now goes until they are exhausted instead of when their fingers get cold.

Super awesome is the way my boys describe these mittens. They are the mittens to get if you want the kids hands to stay warm. They could ski or play in the snow with these all day and stay warm. i won't let them take them to school for fear they may get lost.

Rated 2 out of 5áby SassyGG well made and love the waterproofing feature
Overall the gloves are well made. My problem is: we have problems getting them on my childs hands. The elastic is too tight. My child says they are too stiff and cant pick up things or push a shovel easily.

It kills me to be disappointed, because we've always loved LLBean stuff, but these mittens have to go back. I ordered them for my very small almost 13 year old son - He's 75 pounds and still under 5 foot tall. The elastic is just too tight around the wrist. I had read a few reviews stating similar issues, but I thought, "He's so small, we'll be fine." We used the size chart and he measured upper Medium range so we went up a size and ordered the Large. I will say, the gloves themselves are a great size with room to grow, but the wrist is a deal breaker. Can't comment on their warmth or waterproofness since they are too tight to wear, but I have no reason to think they aren't otherwise just fine. I'd hate to think of how tight these would be on an average kid though!

We live in NW Wisconsin and we have been putting our outerwear to the test this week as we have been having record cold arctic temps. These mittens kept my daughter's hands warm even at -17F (yes, that is a negative sign in front of the 17) while waiting for the bus. She has also spent time playing in the snow for over an hour at -10F, and these mittens kept her hands warm and dry. I love the long fleece liner that is snug up her arm - it really does work to keep the snow out. The adjustable strap is easy and works well. These mittens are an amazing value! Thank you LLBean! I highly recommend these mittens!

Phew! I thought it was just me! We've bought these mitts in Toddler version and my boys wear the gloves, and always were our favourite mittens.
I picked these up from the Freeport Store for my daughter, without trying them on, and regret it. She cannot get them on herself. She is five years old and cannot pull these on. I cannot get them on her without almost pulling her over.
I think I lost my receipt unfortunately or I would send them back. Love their quality, but what a funny design. Disappointed.
