This is my 3rd purchase of these beds over the past 4 years for our Saints and not because they have worn out. They love these durable memory foam beds so we decided to get the large size that's easier to transport on a road trip. For those with giant fur babies, I would definitely recommend getting the XL if you have the space. It is considerably bigger than the large, but also much thicker providing more support. Honestly the large looks like a small compared to the XL. I also like that LLBean offers replacement covers & inserts. We have only replaced one cover over the years due to staining & that's saying a lot being they are used at least 12 hours a day. Other than it looking nasty, it held up perfectly despite numerous washings. Highly recommend. Only negative is the cover requires some patience putting on as it is quite snug.

by KerryM Durable and well made, but...
This is a great bed. It's firm, provides good support. Might not be for anyone who wants a super cushiony bed. The cover is very durable and has stood up to an 8 month old puppy's chewing.
The downside is that we ordered the navy blue cover and it shows everything-fur, dust, you name it-it's going to show. My dogs dont really shed-so I can't imagine how hairy it would be with a big shedder!
For that reason, I'd suggest going with a different color if that bothers you and why I deducted a star.

Rated 2 out of 5 by CPOLLBeanfan Difficult to clean
I have purchased several fantastic LL Bean dog beds in the past, all with the nylon insert. Last year when we got a new puppy I decided to try the Therapeutic Dog Bed with the foam insert. While it is comfortable and my dog appears to like it, I'm finding it extremely difficult to keep clean. I tend to wash the cover frequently, but the foam insert makes it very difficult to take the cover on and off. It doesn't slide well and is a struggle each time. Also, the memory foam absorbs and holds the dog smell. This would be a much better bed if the memory foam was covered in a nylon shell, like the other style bed. I highly recommend LL Bean's other style bed, but until they cover the memory foam with something that allows it to slide back into the cover easily, I don't recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by AshevilleDogMom Insert suggestion
My husband and I have owned many L.L. Bean dog beds over the years and have been very happy with the design and overall quality. However, we have a suggestion that might make the the foam inserts far more user-friendly. Due to the friction when foam meets fabric, it is difficult/time consuming to get the insert into the cover after washing. If the foam insert were covered with the same nylon used on your other inserts, it would easily slip into the cover and would also protect the foam which tends to break down with active dogs. Additionally, we always have our covers monogrammed. We were surprised to see that the monogram has been moved to the front of the vertical side rather than on the top. When it's on the top, you can flip the bed to the clean side without having the name appear upside down as it does now. We will continue to buy these beds, but would be more satisfied if these two changes were made. Thanks!

We have 2 dogs, and often a 3rd visiting dog. They all love this bed and we are going to buy a 3rd so our 70 lb 13 yr old dog has one on each floor of the house!

I bought this in size medium for my aged dachshund. The foam is hard, hard egg-crate foam. Having found the recent purchase of a memory-foam mattress topper helpful for my own pain issues, I thought our Jack would benefit from this. He won't even sit on it when we put him there. Hmm. So I put it up on my bed and sat on it myself. Ouch. If it didn't feel squishy to me at 105 lbs., how is it supposed to feel that way for my 15 lb. dog? I question if the foam in this bed is actual memory foam. It is certainly nothing like the density and texture of the three-inch-thick "medium support" mattress topper I use. Does memory foam even come in egg-crate shape? I only paid $89 online for my queen-sized topper, by the way. Poor dog. At this price, poor me, too.

First let me say my dog is a 110 lb long haired German Shepherd. . The large size fits him well with room to spare. I wouldn't choose the bed size using the weight only. be sure to look at the dimensions. I love this bed bc It is thick enough so when he lays down it doesn't sink to where he is on the floor like most beds. I do wish though the cover was water proof and stain resistant. It is hard to keep clean. For now I keep an old towel over it. I am going to also buy a liner for the mattress pad itself so nothing seeps through.

Rated 5 out of 5 by dollbaby The BEST bed ever!
My little rescue is in heaven when she rests or sleeps due to the Therapeutic dog bed!
She was abused, after we adopted her we noticed she would yelp if we tried to pick her up She moaned a bit when resting or sleeping. Figured she was in some kind of pain.
Hubby suggested we get a good bed for her. Well, I went to work looking for the right kind of bed for our little girl.
The bed has done wonders for her. No more moaning and she doesn't want to leave the bed!! Noticed she is feeling better. Has to be because of the real sleep she's getting.
This bed has an egg shell interior offers comfort to the MAX! Its cover is easy to come off, wash & dry..........I struggle a little to get it back on. But that's the way it goes sometimes, isn't it?
The price is a little steep for us..........but I would buy this bed all over again because of the comfort it gives my fur baby!

Rated 5 out of 5 by heatherbetsy Tip for OLD dogs
This is my second review of these fantastic beds. My 16.5 year old, 60 pound dog has two of these so she can stay in different parts of the house. She is now so old that she started to have an issue where she would end up at the very edge of the bed, and understandably, the edge would collapse and then she would end up stuck half on and half off the bed. She has almost no strength left, so she could not get up.
But, I seem to have found the answer: build a rectangular frame to go around the outside of the bed that is an inch taller than the foam. This way, when she ends up at the edge of the bed, which happens often, her weight is unable to slide her off the edge. Instead, she ends up nicely contained on the bed. I will try to add a photo later.
These beds are simply the perfect combination of foams; more memory foam would not be better because there would not be enough support. Well done!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by YellowOrangeRed high quality, dogs like them
I got the size Large for each of my 50-lb Siberian huskies. Maybe they could have used the medium but they like to stretch out.
While the 4 inch thickness seems unnecessary from the dogs' perspective, it is unexpectedly very convenient for me -- because these beds are rigid enough that I can stand them up against the wall during the day.
I chose these beds partly because I could get the neutral plaid fleece covers for them. My dogs like this fabric and I like it because it doesn't rustle (unlike denim or cordura nylon).
