The zippers and pockets are different than earlier models. The main zipper is finicky. I WILL zip up even if you unknowingly don't have the starter portion fully seated, which results in the zipper pulling apart from the bottom. Don't put anything of value in the pockets. The opening is low and everything falls out. I like to keep my chapstick, cell phone, etc., handy, but I also like to keep my hands in the warm pockets. Not a good combination. I had an earlier version of this vest and loved it for about 10 years. But it's unfortunately been changed to smaller zippers and lower pocket openings ... and I bought 2 of them! Ugh!.

I bought one of these vests a year or so ago and it is my favorite, stretchy, warm, totally comfy so I bought another because with LLBean ya never know when they will discontinue a favorite.
I swear the new one is smaller. They are both XXL tall. I push the limits of the fit at 6'9" and around 300lb. It will probably be fine for most folks but I am sitting on the fence and may return it.

my first review wasn't posted. xxl is very tight fit. I own 13 other llbean vests in xxl and all are roomy, but they seem to be getting smaller each year. Had to send back unusable. Only one drawstring pull on right side...I'm left handed. Poor design.
usa polartec is high quality and foreign assembly seems good, but since the largest size of these vests is xxl...and they are getting smaller looks like I'm going to have to find a new brand to buy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by mrw2day XXL Very Tight Fit
XXL was very tight fit. I have ordered the trail model in xxl in the past and they were roomy although it seems they are getting smaller and smaller over the past 5 years. This one was skin tight. I own older LLBean 2-LLbeanTrail model vests, 7-LLbean wind challenger vests, 2-LLbean iron mtn work canvas vest, and two other LLbean polortec vests that I can't remember the model name. That's 13 vests in size xxl and I can tell you from that experience they are getting smaller each year. My old ones fit fine, actually most are what I would describe as roomy, but I am having to return this because it is unwearable. A waist drawstring has been added to the trail model, but only adjusts from one side...which I think is a poor design. Otherwise the foreign workmanship and superior USA made Polartec appears excellent.

The fabric is superb, sharp looking vest, however the fit is snug.

Fleece Lint comes off the vest when you wear it and sticks to your clothes. This continued to happen evan after washing one time. I liked the design and fit.

I absolutely love this Polartec fleece vest. For what it's worth, I am a woman and I prefer the men's style and fit. I bought a Tall XL and it fits my tall frame perfectly -- I like the straight style (no princess seams or tight-fitting armholes). I esp appreciate the Polartec 200 fabric, the great colors (I bought red), the hemmed bottom (no constricting elastic), and the quality construction. This is a perfect item and I will be ordering another soon. Thank you!

L.L. Bean really scored by listening to customers and bringing back this near-perfect fleece vest in its original form. It's impossible for any other brand to surpass the quality and warmth of this garment at this price point, and trust me, I have a lot of vests! I will be wearing my L.L. Bean vest every day from November to April!

Wanted a vest with a cell phone pocket. Being frugal, I thought the price was a little high, but ordered one to try. In summary - I love it. Worth every penny. As a former football player, I needed to fit a large frame and have room to move and the XXL did just that without feeling like it bloomed out at the bottom.. One drawback - would like an XXL long size to compensate for a barrel chest and a long torso. I would also like a Navy color in between the bright navy and the black. Other than that - I definitely recommend it (even for the frugal) for both weekend and outdoor wear.

I have two polartec 200 vests which I bought in years past and this does not compare. The fabric in the older version was much more substantial. It did not stretch like the new fabric. I am sending this back.
