Rated 5 out of 5 by oldgeekyguy Nice Jacket, Better Sweater
I read the reviews. Yes, the sleeves are long, but not too long if measured as a sports coat they're perfect and perfect for keeping your wrists covered. Yes, the jacket is a bit "slim" in the fit but I'd planned on wearing this not just over a light layer as advertised but as a mid layer under a wind breaker, a barn coat, a parka, or whatever. If I'd got an XL it wouldve been too big, I'm sure.
Considering that, it's as advertised including the open cuffs. Materials and workmanship top notch. Just got it two hours ago and took it for a walk with jeans, insulated boots and long sleeved tee. It's 39?F in small mountain college town with 5-8" old snow on ground, clear path through city park. Just right. I'll update this as I use it...
Been LL BEAN shopper since 1971. Never been disappointed with anything from socks to coats and everything in between. Any infrequent issues were swiftly and cheerfully resolved.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BillP44 Almost Perfect
Purchased this jacket several months ago and waited until I had some use on it before reviewing. Used it on a fishing trip to Montana and it worked great. It's a great casual jacket for cold weather. It's soft and warm. The fit is perfect for me - a large at 6'1" and 188. My only reason not to give it 5 stars is the problem of putting it on over most anything long sleeve as others have mentioned. If the sleeves were lined with a non-clinging material it would be perfect, but that's a problem with most fleeces.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Dailydude Good but tight
This is a very nice jacket. The fabric is great, warm but not heavy, and the zippered pockets are very practical.
I could certainly throw this jacket in the back of the car, and get it on days that I need it.
I would caution that the size runs a little small. I bought a Large, my normal size, and it fits fine with a casual shirt. I would probably want the Extra Large if I were wearing a sweater or sweatshirt.
Anyway, this fleece jacket is all we need most winter days in our Tennessee climate, unless it is raining or really cold.

Fits like a snug sweater not a jacket. I returned it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Lewdog Size runs small
I just received my new Trail Model Fleece Jacket and the size runs smaller than before. I've had two of these in the past four years sized L and loved them but this new size L is too small. Will return it and ask for a size XL.

Rated 5 out of 5 by EricNCarolina Excellent Midweight Fleece
I have had the charcoal trail weight fleece for 2 years. It's been great. The polartec 200 weight is great for the upper southeast, where it is comfortable outside in temperatures in the 25-50 degree range. Fleece also does cause water to bead up and not soak you in a light rain or mist (similar to water retrieving dog's coat). Fleece also cuts the wind. It also has a well made zipper unlike some of the cheaper fleeces where one can struggle to open and close. It's thin enough you can add an outer layer easily and fell bulky. Highly recommend.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Carne Not the same
I purchased a Trail Model fleece jacket a few years ago. The fit of the current version is much more slim than ?traditional?. All four zippers are now the same small gauge, with no wind flap under the front zipper. The cuffs are not elastic. Please bring back the original jacket that was perfect for virtually any use. I wore out my original and thought this was going to be a replacement.. Sorry.. I have to return, too small yet is the same size as my first one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by HubCity Warm, but it sheds fibers.
For perspective, I presently own 2 LL Bean Trail model fleece garments, one jacket and one vest, in addition to 2 fleece garments from a competing brand.
I generally find fleece to be an enjoyable light-to-mid weight layer that is warm, thin, and relatively water-resistant. This jacket is a nice length, with good pockets and smooth zippers. Overall, I prefer the fit and appearance of this LL Bean fleece jacket over my other fleece jacket. Having worn this jacket for a year or so now, I can state that it is warm and performs as well as expected.
In the time I've owned this jacket, I have two complaints. First, the jacket fits my torso nicely (5'9" ~180#, size M jacket), but the sleeves are slightly too long for my preference. If the cuffs were elastic or had some form of adjustment, it would be a non-issue. The second issue bothers me much more. This jacket (as well as my LL Bean Trail Model fleece vest) sheds tiny fibers everywhere. I noticed this the first few times that I wore this fleece, but I thought that with some wear, and a few washes, it would cease shedding. This has not been the case. The inside of my truck has tiny, bright red, fibers everywhere. Occasionally, one of these shed fibers gets in my eye, which is unpleasant. Shedding of this nature has not been an issue with my fleece garments of another brand.
Hopefully LL Bean can resolve the shedding issues, because otherwise this is a nice fleece jacket at an very attractive price. As it is, the continued shedding is causing me to consider returning this fleece.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Blackhawksfan10 Charcoal Heather Trail Model-- soft, warm, great!
Very comfortable jacket to wear indoors and out, on its own or layered under a Pathfinder Soft-Shell Jacket for those really windy and cold days. The fleece is very soft, and zippers + pockets are nice and durable. The fit is spot on for me--as a slight build individual (5' 6" 150lb) I purchased a Small and haven't encountered any issues with long sleeve shirts bunching as mentioned in other reviews.
Another satisfied LL Bean purchase.

My husband is always cold so I purchased this light weight jacket for him to wear in the house. He commented that "it is the best jacket he has ever owned" and does wear it constantly. I think the high collar adds overall comfort.
