When you receive the package, you will think the insert is way too small. Don't be fooled! When you open the box and release the insert, it puffs up so much it seems like it inflates. Very sturdy, but cushy enough for the most selective dog. Also, the fabric which surrounds the stuffing seems like it is almost moisture-proof. It is not, but if your pet has a "spill," and you clean it up swiftly, perhaps the liquid will not soak through to the material in the insert.

Rated 4 out of 5 by pathann Better than the Premium insert
Had to replace the Memory Foam insert bought a few years ago. Have not been happy with the performance of that, did not hold up as long as I thought it would. I also discovered you really have to use the liner to protect any of these inserts. The foam was pretty dirty.
Anyway, ordered the Premium one and Rascal did not even like to lay on it. He would get on the bed and roll to the back. Sent it back.
This is much better, only I wish it was just a little firmer. I have a piece of closed cell foam which I will use over it, or underneath.
Buy the protective liner!

by LeeAnnSmiles The dogs love it
Our two dogs love this chopped foam bed. It is firmer and higher than the polyfill inserts we have bought in the past. It arrived bundled in a thick wrap of plastic film and then expanded within a couple of hours to full thickness. Once they figured out it was different than the other beds it has become the new favorite bed. When one dog gets up, the other will most often wander over and lie down there. We have 2 rescued dogs; Mocha is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever-Lab mix, about 62 lbs, and Maggie is a Border Collie-Lab mix, about 55 lbs. They tend to sleep curled up, so we use Bean's size medium beds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RiverFallsCricket Perfect replacement insert!
While it's true this insert arrives flat as a pancake, it plumps up as soon as you unpack it and the chunks of foam fill back up with air. I didn't spend any time trying to fluff it up and it was perfect within 30 minutes. I have two dogs--a bony 10 year old Greyhound/Wolfhound mix that weighs 100+ pounds and a smaller than average Golden Retriever. My 10 year old sleeps most of the time and seems to love it--he hasn't spend nearly as much time re-adjusting as he did with the memory foam insert. My smaller dog loves it as well (though he is equally as happy on a hardwood floor). Highly recommend!

When this insert arrived, it was very weirdly lumpy, and I considered sending it back.It was super lofty in some spots, totally devoid of foam in other spots. It comes rolled up like a sleeping bag. So I had to spend quite some time shaking it around and squeezing the bits of foam to get them to separate and be more evenly distributed. Then, I had the idea to actually put it into my dog bed cover ON TOP OF the other, older bed insert. I have a very bony dog (a greyhound) who sleeps about 21 hours a day, so he is loving all the extra cushioning. Bottom line: you'll need to spend some time getting the chunks of foam to be evenly distributed.

I purchased this insert for my older arthritic dog. He will not sleep on memory foam so I thought i would try this insert. When it arrived it was flat as a pancake. When i looked inside the insert there were little pieces of torn up foam. This immediately went back. Horrible quality-not at all as described.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Merj Very pleased
I bought this for a very large old cat. It's much heavier than I expected and seems very well made (we have the medium size). It is filled with lots of small-ish, foamy bits and sewn into a nice durable fabric in 3 channels that keep the foamy material inside from shifting. It seems to cushion him very comfortably (he is 16 Lbs). We have only had it a few weeks but he seems to love it and he looks very, very comfortable when he's sleeping on it.
