Rated 5 out of 5 by HetEngeltje My "Goldilock" boot!
I tried on a few different boots in size 6.0, 6.5, and 7.0 from various places. Most footwear have a slim toe box, so I find them uncomfortable; likewise, my ankle doesn't fit snug enough in most footwear. This boot, after being broken into, has been the most comfortable pair of boots I've owned. They're waterproof, and give the support that I need on the AT.

I've had a couple false starts with hiking boots. They seem to fit and be comfortable walking around the store or even for short outdoor walks, but not so well while hiking. Merrills seem to have a support sole that doesn't match my arch and so starts to hurt at the ball of my foot. Keens fit but feel stiff and heavy so that by the end of a hike my feet have a low-grade ache. My husband had gotten a pair of Oboz and urged me to give them a try. These are a tiny bit roomier in the toe box, which is great for me, and have a supportive arch that feels right with my feet. I usually break boots in with short walks, but these felt good during and after a few 3-4 mile hikes. No soreness, no blisters, just a good, solid, comfortable boot. All feet are different, but these work great for me! The tiniest quibble-these don't have a loop at the back for pulling them on. That would be a good addition for a ankle height boot.

I hike a lot in Maine. I've been wearing these since I bought them this winter. The grip is excellent; the LL Bean product specialist recommended these as having the best grip of all the hiking boots. The laces stay tied. I tried several pairs such as the Trail Models, Merrells, Keens, and Crestas, and these are the best ones, with the best cushioning, stylish appearance, and fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by birchtrees Great fit, very comfortable
These boots are very comfortable! They give great arch and ankle support. I normally wear a 7 1/2 or 8 shoe, so I ordered an 8 1/2, which turned out to still be too tight. I had serious toe bang in my last hiking boots and lost a toenail so I really wanted to make sure my toes had plenty of room for downhill hiking. I ended up with a 9 and it fits perfectly!

Having read the reviews, I did go up 1/2 size but still found the boots narrow and small with a decent sock, I did wear them all day for 2 days but decided as I will be walking for 7-10 in a row I needed to go up to a size 7 so I am returning them. Otherwise the boots are great.

The Oboz hiking boots are very nice looking, feel great and I love how secure they make me feel in walking. Very sure footing, going uphill, downhill and in wet conditions. Definitely water proof.
They felt slightly tight right out of the box even though I ordered a half a size up. After just a few minutes they felt great. They have became my favorite shoes for hikes and around town.
I ordered them from LLBean because I knew I could always send them back if they wouldn't work out. No sending them back, I love them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sirocco Should have bought them sooner!
OK, let me confess right off the bat, I've never bought hiking boots in my life before now. I had an old pair of grungy sneakers I would wear when hitting the muddy trails at the local park. Sure, my feet got wet, but hey, no big deal, I thought.
However, my family is going to Yellowstone in June, so I thought I'd better get myself a pair of good quality boots- and I better by them now, in January, so I would have plenty of time to break them in, right?
I came to L.L.Bean because I've bought other items I've enjoyed before, and so that I could read the reviews before purchase from women who had way more experience with boots than I did!
Settled on these Oboz, and after a week of daily tromping through the cold mud, all I can say is, WHY did I wait so long to get these?!
Here's the rundown:
I live in Virginia,we don't have the snow and the bitter cold that Vermont has during the winter, typically. We drop to around the 20s, sometimes the teens, but it isn't uncommon to have winter days in the 40s and 50s- which means we get a lot of cold mud on our trails.
The thick tread and ankle protection have made a huge difference in the enjoyment of my hikes. Remember, I said I was using sneakers? Yes, I was a dummy, I now know that! I can traipse through the slick spots, keep my footing better on the inclines...a true revelation.
The fact that these boots are waterproof, but not insulated, have meant that my feet stay warm, but don't get unbearably hot in our milder temperatures. I paired them with mid-weight Ascent hiking socks, also available from L.L.Bean.
Based on the reviews here, I ordered a half size up from my usual 7.5- and I'm glad I did because they seem to run a bit small. If I had to wear heavyweight socks, I might have even preferred a full size bigger.
As for the break in period I was SURE I was going to need- not an issue! The very first day I wore these boots on a 3 mile "break in" hike, and they fit me like old friends. No blisters, not even any hot spots, no slipping inside the boot, no chafing around the ankle...just lovely warm, dry feet, even when I purposely strode through the mud pits to test.
I really, truly, should have bought these Oboz sooner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by MAEventer I think that these may be the answer!
I think that these may be the answer to my foot problems. I have tried a lot of boots. Lowa, Merrell, Vasque, Salomon, and Keen. I need a rocker bottom, cushioning, wide toes, and a narrow heel. In the Keens, I developed numb toes,. In the Lowa's, my shins were killing me. The Salomons hurt the bottom of my foot. I have prescription orthotics. I take a 10 in most hiking boots, but I sized up to 11 in these. So far, so good. I have been walking the dogs half a mile each morning, and went for a short hike this week-end. The bottom did feel odd under the heel at first, but that resolved really fast. So far, I am happy every time I put them on, and that is amazing!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Tuscarora Disappointing!
After having worn (and killed during ADK 46 High Peaks pursuit) my Keen Targhee boots, I needed a new pair of boots and these looked perfect. The Keens weren't very waterproof to begin with and over time I became resigned to wet feet. I really wanted to like these Oboz boots---the classic look, grippy tread, the promise of waterproof. However, they have a weird fit & feel. It's hard to describe, but when standing in them I feel out of alignment. And the sole is so thick---which could be nice and cushiony on downhills---it feels too thick and removed from contact with the ground. The tongue is also very thick and bulky---it feels as though it could cause blisters. Overall, the boots felt stiff and needing a lot of break in time. If you are used to the Keen fit and comfort, I would not recommend these boots.

I ordered these hiking boots after losing my old ones. It's been about 5 years since I've gone on a good trip so these shoes were a god send.
MY normal size is a 10 so I went with the 11 and it fit perfectly. The mid top of the shoe supports my ankles fantastically, even as I step over slippery rocks and muddy hills.
I did a 7 mile hike down in Virginia called The Devils Bathtub and they stayed dry even through a torrential down pour. They stayed dry even when I stepped in the creek on accident. But they did not stay dry when I jumped head to toe in a watering hole. lol.
Even still, after dumping the water out of them my feet NEVER developed blisters and despite being wet did not hurt my feet.
I would recommend these shoes to a friend.
