Rated 1 out of 5 by snowlover3 not a winter jacket
I am very disappointed with this jacket. It is definitely not for Maine winters. More appropriate for temps 30 degrees or above. The cost does not justify the merchandise, I will be sending it back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LSchuh Great light warm jacket
Bought this jacket and the 850 Sweater jacket. The Sweater jacket was nice but holding it up to the light you could see through it at the seams. With the added loft of the 850 Jacket you could not see through it. The added loft will also make it warmer, so if you want a jacket this is a great option. I typically wear a 14 - 16 (Large) due to broad shoulders and long arms. I went with an XL on this one after reading other reviews. The XL was great for me. The shoulder area is not too big and allows for good movement and sleeve length was good. The hip area where it zips would have been too small with a L since the XL has about one inch of ease for me. The XL also doesn't look like it's too big on me. The LL Bean description says Slightly Fitted which means maybe a tad smaller than your average fit. The XL gives me room to layer a wool sweater plus a base layer if I want. I've worn this in -5 degree weather with a light shirt and sweater - super warm. The ability to tuck it into the internal zip pocket and light weight will make it a perfect jacket for camping and traveling. LOVE this jacket.

I bought this jacket and wore it overseas for Christmas. It is extremely lightweight and folds well so travelling with it on planes and trains was great.
It is toasty warm in frigid January temperatures now that we are back home and I have received many compliments on how pretty it is (I purchased the turquoise).
My favourite jacket.

I received this jacket for Christmas and love the color and the fit! The problem was the dark down feathers show through and make the jacket look dirty. LL Bean happily replaced it with a black jacket and problem solved!

My wife is always cold...at least until she got this jacket. Features are great with nice zippers and a stowage pocket. But the down file and smooth fabric is really great and keeps her warm. What's not to like.
Some store clerk said to be careful of really light colors since the down fill can show through

Rated 5 out of 5 by Higgy17 TOTALLY LOVE THIS JACKET
The fit is perfect (XL), even in the shoulders. The weight is awesome. I do feel the price could be better, but if it lasts, it will all work out. I bought the brilliant blue, beautiful, bright and cheerful. I have had no issues with the dark feather, like some other reviewers mentioned. If ever goes on sale..... More colors for me

Very nice quality, good for travel but not for low 30s temps.
Even with a turtle neck and polartec layers, I did not even consider
wearing it today in NYC [in the 20s]!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tzippy Comfortable, warm
This is such a comfortable jacket. I bought it for a trip but am getting a lot of use out of it now. I am 5'3" and around 120 and bought the petite medium because I wanted room to wear layers underneath. Glad I did. It fits perfectly, not too tight, not too big. Today the temps are in the 20's but I think I'll try it out since I'm tired of wearing my big, blanket of a winter coat.

I love the fit and how lightweight this jacket is while also being very warm. I have worn it a few times and it does not disappoint.

Rated 3 out of 5 by JanetNYC Ultralight 850 Down Jacket--Molten Red not for me!
I really wanted a red jacket since I replaced my old red and gray Rugged Ridge Parka. I chatted with L.L. Bean customer service and specifically asked if the molten red was closer to orange or to red. The person assured me that it was a dark red. I would say it was closer to a coral red, which to my eyes, seems like it's towards the orange spectrum. For me, it was just too garish a color. The jacket fit me (bought a misses regular medium -- I am 5'7", 132 lb., trim athletic), but I thought the hip area (mine is 37-38") was more snug than the rest of the jacket, although it would have been fine for me. The sleeves also had no inner fleece at the wrists and were completely loose, with so much space that I am sure the wind would have gone right up the sleeves. The jacket was nice and light. However, I'll keep looking for a new red jacket, even if I have to wait until next year. Please offer one in basic red!
