Rated 5 out of 5 by vtexteacher How do they do it?
I've worn a lot of boots; I'm a retired physical education teacher in Vermont- yes it does get cold and wet in Vermont's Fall and Spring when your classes are outside. Being waterproof and being light and comfortable are essential qualities when you are on your feet all day. I now walk a lot outside, so I still want the comfort and quality. When I first tried on these boots I knew. They're GREAT. How do they do it? How do they make a boot that feels like you're walking on air? I don't know, but I'm enjoying these now on my walks. No more tired feet, no more wet feet. Thanks LL Bean

BEAN..... THANKS FOR GETTING THESE HAND CRAFTED BOOTS CORRECTLY RESIZED FROM THE ITALIAN CRAFTSMAN.....
These Mountain Hiking Boots Absolutely Rock!!! not only do they provide the Great Water protection and foot Breathe ability (which is what a true Gortex Boot should provide) but also the all around Firm foot support that is necessary when wearing a boot all day long with getting Foot Fatigue....
I not only do I wear these boots for hiking but outside around the house and property chores... I Totally recommend these Boots...

Rated 2 out of 5 by TravelingRancher Will Not Buy These Boots Again
Similar to VAdiscgolfer the soles of the pair I bought started to separate from the upper after about 6 months. They are comfortable and light and very waterproof - much more waterproof than the previous version - but they don't stand up well to regular use. They are probably OK for someone who will only wear them occasionally.

Rated 2 out of 5 by VAdiscgolfer Not as good as the previous version
I've been buying these Italian made hiking boots for years. They have always been a great fit and absolutely waterproof, but after about 4-5 months of wearing them the sole is starting to come unglued.I would rate the older version 5 stars, and recommend them to others but these newer ones, not so much.

Rated 2 out of 5 by BrieflySpeaking Great Blister-Making Boot
Bought these in March but didn't take them out on the trail until July 10th, on the A-T in Central VA. I started getting blisters not too long into wearing these, but thought it was my fault as I had doubled up on insoles, putting my Superfeet inside on top of the factory insoles. That was a mistake - way too cramped, and my feet protested, as they should have. So out came the factory insoles, leaving the green Superfeet, but blisters and hot heels were still the outcome. I ended 233 miles of A-T in VA wondering if these boots were right for me, but decided to give them another "go" in NH/Maine a little over a week ago for probably the toughest 65 miles of the A-T, which spans those two states. After three days, I came off the trail because of heel blisters. I mole-foamed my heels and hit the trail again after a one day rest. That all helped, but the fatal flaw with these boots is that unless I am taping my heels up, the boots are cutting into them relentlessly on steep uphills (of which there is no shortage in NH/Maine). That's a shame, because the boots are otherwise very comfortable and tamed to my feet - but something about the heels just don't work. I took them back to LL Bean yesterday and switched them out for Oboz' Wind River boots. Let's hope they treat my heels with a lot more TLC and respect.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Navan Longer and narrower
Compared to a previous version of these boots, these are longer and narrower. Overall, the shoe fits more snugly when laced up, however, they are much too narrow in the forefoot area.

Fit was exceptional right out of the box. Good support while being light weight. I like the firm sole providing protection on rough trails.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LLliker1 Nice looking boot
Let me preface this review with the fact that I've only worn these once so far and are just initial observations. Out of the box they seemed a little on the long side and are visually longer than other 10 1/2 boots that I own. I tried the fit with a light weight sock and my feet seemed to move around in the boots a little more than I liked. I decided to try a heavier wool sock and the fit is much more secure. The only knock on these boots that really stood out was that after a few hours, I was quite sore around the collar and I really did not have these laced up all that tight at the top. Maybe it'll just be a break-in period or maybe not. I have purchased other boots similar to these this year and did not have the same issue. Other than that they seem alright and are quite nice looking. I think for the money, I could've done a lot better comfort-wise though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Scoutmaster778 Nice waterproof boots, watch for sole seperation
Pros: Nice fit, best truly waterproof hiking boots I could find, look good.
Cons: Wild red shoelaces, but comes with a darker set. Eyelets are barely large enough to get laces through, so don't remove laces unless necessary. Had to return 2 prior sets of these boots due to the soles deteriorating and separating from the leather. Hope these new ones are better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BigEasyLLBeanFan I'm so pleased
I wrote an earlier review before I'd used these very much. Now I have used them quite a bit, and I am so pleased. They fit me well, are comfortable, a good weight, kept my feet dry, and have really pleased me on a number of days of modest hiking in Central America.
