Rated 4 out of 5 by LLliker1 Nice looking boot
Let me preface this review with the fact that I've only worn these once so far and are just initial observations. Out of the box they seemed a little on the long side and are visually longer than other 10 1/2 boots that I own. I tried the fit with a light weight sock and my feet seemed to move around in the boots a little more than I liked. I decided to try a heavier wool sock and the fit is much more secure. The only knock on these boots that really stood out was that after a few hours, I was quite sore around the collar and I really did not have these laced up all that tight at the top. Maybe it'll just be a break-in period or maybe not. I have purchased other boots similar to these this year and did not have the same issue. Other than that they seem alright and are quite nice looking. I think for the money, I could've done a lot better comfort-wise though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Scoutmaster778 Nice waterproof boots, watch for sole seperation
Pros: Nice fit, best truly waterproof hiking boots I could find, look good.
Cons: Wild red shoelaces, but comes with a darker set. Eyelets are barely large enough to get laces through, so don't remove laces unless necessary. Had to return 2 prior sets of these boots due to the soles deteriorating and separating from the leather. Hope these new ones are better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BigEasyLLBeanFan I'm so pleased
I wrote an earlier review before I'd used these very much. Now I have used them quite a bit, and I am so pleased. They fit me well, are comfortable, a good weight, kept my feet dry, and have really pleased me on a number of days of modest hiking in Central America.

Excellent boot, especially for a new buyer. I was looking for an affordable upgrade, and this was a huge improvement on the generic hiking boots I was using before. Light, great grip, and well-fitting despite my ordering half a size too large (thanks to a tall upper that grips the ankle nicely).
Only one little con: I noticed after a few hours that there was a spot that pinched on just one of the boots, but after I broke them in, I just had to tie a little more gently and adjust the tongue a little, and they were fine.
Took them on a weekend of moderate trails, over a river, and under a waterfall, and they still look new.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ADKMT46R Sizing Width Issue
Getting the right size hiking boot is critical to having a wonderful hiking experience and eliminate the occurrence of foot sores that can ruin any trip, long or short. For me that has always been an issue since I have a wide foot. In the past I have ordered a size 10.5 in 4E width, but I guess the market for people with the need for a 4E width in any size isn't profitable enough for all manufacturers to offer them. I therefore chose the size 11 in a Wide(2E) as recommended assuming that they probably also make a larger boot wider anyway, which apparently seems correct to some degree.
I first wore the boots right out of the box in the house with my good medium-weight hiking sock (Spring to Fall). I found the boot to be a little tight on the width after 3-4 hours, but not enough to cause extremely noticeable pain. However, keep in mind I was not hiking either. I then switched to a good light-weight hiking sock and continued my testing for 2 hours. The fit was slightly more comfortable and would probably work fine on the trails. However, I wasn't done with my testing (read on).
The next day I switched the original insole liner, which was a thin pad, with my thicker hiking Gel Pads (which are about 2x thicker) and wore light-weight socks. After an hour I noticed that the width was a little tight obviously due to the thickness of my Gel Pads. Fortunately I found that a Thin Gel Pad is sold thru at least one sports store, and is as thin as the original boot liner, but has a better cushion. In the house the fit seems fine, but I wont' know for sure until my first hike.
Unlike leather boots which might require a Break-In Period, the uppers on these boots are more flexible because of their material construction like that of a normal sneaker, but sightly sturdier & stiffer. The Vibram sole also provides a solid foot support, which one needs when hiking. I wouldn't have purchased them without a solid sole, Vibram or another brand. The inner linings felt comfortable all around my foot as well. Just how waterproof they are compared to my trusty leather boots, only time will tell. To be fair, I always treat my leather boots with waterproof spray after every 3rd hike to keep the leather from drying out and to shed not only water but dirt and mud. I expect to do the same with these boots for the same reasons, so I expect these boots to be totally waterproof during their usable life as indicated by their advertising, which says "Waterproof" not just "Water Resistant".
Finally - I have not yet had the chance to test these boots while actually hiking, but my in-home testing has been sufficient to determine if a boot is the right fit or not before hitting the trail. In the past I have sent boots back to LL-Bean and other businesses for that reason BEFORE trying them on a hike, but I've never had to send them back AFTER PASSING my in-home testing and using them on a hike. I hope this is helpful to all hikers, especially those needing a wider boot. If you need a 4E Width, try to get it, but if not maybe this review will help. Good Hiking.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ChicoKat Quality boots per usual
Got these as an exchange for an older version that split at the footbed. Mention this to highlight Bean's commitment to high quality product and customer satisfaction. These boots are pretty much hike ready out of the box. Solid light weight mid cut boot perfect for day hikes and could function well on a light load backpacking trip. The only minus I found on the first hike was they seemed to be slick on wet slab rocks. Traction was good on dry slick rock. See how this goes as the tread gets a little worn.

Happy with fit. Seem to be breaking in quickly. Toe box much roomier than recent Merrell hiking shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BryanIM Mountain Hikers Comfort
Had Mountain Hikers for years and they were so comfortable. The new pair did not disappoint. Same comfort as the old ones with a shorter break in time. Am glad I ordered these and look forward to wearing them as often as possible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by cjdave I like them!
I owned 5 pairs of the last series of mountain treads. the improvements with the new series with the Vibram sole is great! the old series the sole was a bit soft. these I pulled them out of the box and went for 4 miles no problems in the rocks and trails in the snow and slush. I'm very satisfied.
