My old, and I mean old, Bean hiking boots finally, after 18 years, gave up the ghost. So I purchased a new pair. If I remember accurately, the price hasn't changed much either. Wearing them felt just like the old pair and if anything, the waterproofing seems better (morning hikes after rain or heavy dew didn't phase them). Even the color is the same as my old boots. I guess the more things change, the more things stay the same (at least at Bean's). Thank God for that!
My sincerest appreciation to all at Bean's for their hard work maintaining consistently high standards through the years.

Rated 3 out of 5 by XANet Pretty comfortable but not waterproof
I bought these to replace a worn pair of Cresta hikers. I wanted something versatile enough to use like a sneaker or a hiking boot. These are pretty comfortable and well-made, but are not as comfortable as the Cresta. Also, these are not waterproof. The first day I wore them, I walked through tall, wet grass to test them out. I could feel the water seeping in through the fabric. I wore them a few more times, and consistently got wet socks from rain or wet grass. This makes the boot worthless to me for hiking, so I will be returning it. Nice price, nice fit, but definitely not waterproof. And don't even think about stepping in a puddle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jhark37 Great Boots!
Excellent product. Fit well, very sturdy. Strong construction. Very comfortable. First day I wore for 3 1/2 mile walk. Super. Not quite the cushioning as in my NB walkers, but very good. Great ankle support, which is adjustable by tension on laces. Haven't tried out the waterproof claim yet, but expect to soon.
Overall excellent. Good value also.

Rated 1 out of 5 by unhappyinseattle NOT waterproof ... AT ALL!
I live in the pacific northwest ... it rains here - A LOT! so I bought a pair of "waterproof" boots in February. well - now its the rainy season and I started wearing them again this fall.
this is the third soccer practice in a row where I've come home with WET FEET! Tonight - my socks were actually SOAKED!!
So - needless to say ... these boots are NOT waterproof, AT ALL!
I'm writing to customer service now to attempt to get them replaced.

I bought a pair of these four months ago and they kept my feet dry for the first month or two of walking through wet grass. Then they began to leak.
I contacted LL Bean and they readily gave me my money back so I ordered another pair to see if they would work.
So far the boots have kept my feet dry but I have only had them for a couple of weeks so the jury is still out They fit well and are comfortable.
Great customer service for taking the faulty ones back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by chileheadtim Wore out quickly
- I liked the looks
- they were comfortable
- good price
- on both boots, the stitching at the toe ripped quickly, minimizing the waterproofing
- the tread wore down incredibly quickly! I have a number of different boots I rotate through, as I usually wear boots every day year round, but the tread on these wore down to nothing in 6 months of minimal to moderate use. My Merrills that have a Vibram sole have lasted many times longer than these.

Rated 3 out of 5 by vacreeper Waterproof? Not So Much
These are great fitting lightweight boots, but waterproof they are not. Many of my hikes encompass grassy areas and after 15-20 minutes of heavy dews or post rainfall these boots are squishing wet.
