Great hiking shoe for the money. Needed something light weight and water proof for southern forest and streams.

Rated 4 out of 5 by zed1203 Comfortable, but narrow
No break in required - comfortable shoe, but as others mentioned, the shoe is narrow. I wear a D width and find the shoe a little snug on the width, but comfortable enough for general use. I chose a half size larger than my shoe size and that was a good choice for me. I was hoping to be able to wear heavy socks with them for the winter, but that's not going to happen since by foot is squeezed too much with a heavy sock because of the narrow width. A good shoe, but recommend going with a wider width if your foot is either a little on the wide side or you plan to wear heavy, or double socks.

This is my second pair of this boot. I wore out my first pair training for and finishing a five-trail, 300 mile self-contained walk in the United Kingdom. I probably walked an additional 200+ miles training and 100+ miles touring UK towns and cities, as these were the only shoes I took. in town, as well. They are a good choice for damp conditions, cooler weather, and mixed surfaces. Because they are waterproof, they are on the warm side, and got a bit hot in warm, dry weather. I am using the new pair for a 500-mile walk on the Camino de Santiago in 2015. The soles seem to wear out quickly on urban routes, so save these for the countryside and natural surfaces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GiveMeABreakOnThisOne A fabulous boot - except in wide
I have worn the second model of this boot for two years, and I was delighted to see that this model 3 represents some excellent improvements in support and strength of the looped shoestring eyelets. These are the best boots available anywhere, in my opinion, for this very reasonable price...actually the best I have seen for even $150.
However, much to my disappointment, the wides are not wide. I tried seven pairs, from size 13W to size 10.5W, as well as 11 and 10.5 regulars, and there is no noticeable difference between the width of the wides and regulars. Since I have a wide foot, I cannot wear these boots.
LL Beans has been amazing in their effort to fit me by providing free shipping and reduced prices to compensate for the effort I took to make these boots work. I'm very, very disappointed. But if you have wide feet, these boots may not work for you. I think Beans is being hoodwinked by the manufacturer, and if they get this problem fixed, I'll buy a pair in a heat beat. I don't think there's a better boot at this price anywhere else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PurpleAvenger Men's Waterproof Trail Model Hikers, Mid-Cut
This is my 4th pair. The modest improvements are real improvements, not just cosmetic changes. For example changing the lace loops from fabric to plastic will increase the life. In the past I have had to take my boots for repair to install failed loops. I like the improvements so much I ordered a second pair. I wear the boots at my job at Home Depot and when doing light hiking with my dogs. I would buy them again although they last a long time.

Very short break in period. Good looking enough to wear everyday. I have already recommended to a friend that should be buying a pair shortly. Nice and light and comfortable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by JimJK Disappointed
Cut is too high for a mid; pretty heavy & stiff as well. Also quite narrow even in the wide size. Can't speak to their toughness or waterproofness as they'll be going back before I can test that out. construction seems sound, lacing is secure and doesn't pinch (much). Too bad, i had hopes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by ElysiumWoods painful
After a moderate 2 1/2 hour walk in the woods, the left foot in the front betweed the ankles was very sore/painful. I almost had to take off the left shoe before I got back to the truck. The right foot was fine. Upon informing LLBean of this they have offered to switch these for another exact pair. I will follow up on that revew after a similar walk.
