Rated 5 out of 5 by BobLLBeanShopper1 Great Winter Shoes
These shoes (boots) are comfortable, warm, weather and water proof, relatively light weight and not garishly colored.
If it looks like rain or snow I wear them and if the weather doesn't develop they are not too hot or heavy to wear on a dry day.
I'm really happy with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Nichols Most comfortable shoe he has worn
My husband begged me to buy these shoes again for him as they were the most comfortable shoe for him to wear while standing and working 8 hours a day in a greenhouse. The bottoms kept his feet dry from the standing water on the floor; they do not keep water from entering the tops, which was no problem for him. I cannot buy him a pair this year since they are sold out!!! Before Thanksgiving out of stock, really?

Rated 2 out of 5 by edgelightimages Good looking but lacks any cushioning
I have purchased many pairs of LL Bean shoes and boots over the years and have generally been very happy with them. I had high expectations for these hiking shoes. While these hiking shoes are good looking and the build quality seems just fine, I have been sorely disappointed. They almost totally lack cushioning. I found that walking on pavement, concrete sidewalks or even hard-packed soil is very difficult on my feet. The full shock of each step seems to be transmitted to my heel and arch. I even tried replacing the stock insoles with one of the name brand, supportive, orthotic insoles. No avail.

Rated 2 out of 5 by OxfordHiker Most comfortable of my 3; but I needed waterproof
I bought these shoes last Spring for a cross country hike of Northern England this Fall. Upon receiving them I donned them over a heavy pair of wool socks, stepped into the tub and turned on the water for a minute. Perfect. Then I spent all Summer and part of Fall breaking them in at 20 to 25 miles per week and comparing them for comfort and sturdiness to my other two pair of hi and low boots. These were the hands-down favorite, comfortable, breathable, not hot. These were the ones I took to England with a bunch of wool socks. I learned that England's rain can be rugged, like its people. After an hour of soft rain my feet began to cool; moisture? After two hours, my socks were making squishing sounds in the shoes. I had to stop and wring the water from my socks and continue with wet, now tenderized tootsies. And so it went, dry them at night, walk 10-12 hours per day and dry again. In fairness, it did not rain every day, but the vegetation was always wet and so it may as well have.
I'm a big fan of LL Bean for 48 years. I wish they still sell the wool-lined Baxter State Parka. In a weak moment I gave mine, bought around 1978, to my daughter and she won't give it back. LL Bean products have never disappointed, but the vendor of the breathable/waterproof membrane supplied to the manufacturer of this product needs to tweek it's product so it can claim to be
waterproof, not just water resistant and surrendering after an hour. The English never surrendered (Except at Yorktown)

I bought these shoes because they were waterproof and I had a pair of winter sneaker that were too. The winter sneakers i've had for two years and my feet have never gotten wet. The first time I got caught in the rain with these shoes my feet got soaking wet.
These shoes are not waterproof or water repellant. I would not buy these shoes again or recomend them to anyone.

The first time I walked in tall wet grass, my feet were soaked immediately. The are not waterproof nor are they very water resistant. If you want a boot to keep your feet dry, this ain't it. They wear fine and are fairly comfortable. I have had better. I wear them every day everywhere. The biggest disappointment is the lack of waterproofing since they are sold as a waterproof boot. The laces can be a bit aggravating as the tongue gets in the way sometimes. I do not recommend them if you need something waterproof. .

Rated 3 out of 5 by NoSmoking Comfortable but get hot
I have had these for about two years. They are well made and long lasting. They are water resistant, not waterproof. Unfortunately, if it is warm outside their lack of breathability makes one's feet sweat. So, your socks get damp from sweat instead of dew or puddles. This causes the insides to stink over time. My guess is that this is the tradeoff for their water resistance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rambling these boots are made for walking
I was hesitant to buy these without trying them on. Most of my footwear have different sizes. I went with the average: 9EE They arrived the day before I departed on a week long hiking/fishing trip in the Colorado Rockies. They were great! The fit was remarkably good and needed no breaking in. Back at home, many miles later, no blisters, no complaints. I'm a satisfied customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jmon The right fit
This is my second purchase of this kind of boot. They are as good as the first , my first pair were not water proof like these but the fit and comfort is just as great. They are light weight but the toughness shows when climbing and walking through river rocks. My first pair lasted a long time I've taken them to use as in camp shoes.
