They fit great, I went 1/2 a size larger for thicker socks and they keep my feet warm during the day even in sub-freezing temps.

No break in needed. Seem to run about a half size small. Haven't used them in extreme conditions yet but have for daily chores and can't complain about them.

I was a little leery about these boots, as I read several other reviews where people had problems with the eyelets pulling out when trying to lace up the boots. I havent had a single problem, and living in NY this past winter put these boots through the wringer. These boots were warm, sturdy, great traction snow blowing and walking the dog through snow covered streets. Very waterproof too, through slush and puddles my feet stayed completely dry.
If I have any criticism at all, its the soles are a bit stiff, but overall its does not effect my feeling about these boots: great winter snow boots, excellent quality, and they look good too.

I'm incredibly picky about my boots. The last pair of winter boots I owned was nearly ten years old, ragged and falling to pieces but I just couldn't find the right pair to replace them. Eventually I stumbled across these at the Freeport store and they were just my style - not too bulky and heavy but well insulated and they fit great. I just spent most of the winter raging on these boots - snowshoeing over 50mi with them, hiking, shoveling, even used them on my snowboard a few times! I'm surprised at the other reviews having problems with the eyelets; I wore these every day and really put them to the test and had absolutely no problems. I can't wait until next winter so I can wear them some more. :) They are not a highly insulated boot - but they are still very warm for their size. Two pairs of bean socks and I spent a day in the mountains in -50F with these and did fine. So that says something! Very happy with how these boots have treated me and I know if something bad happens, LL Bean will take care of me, so well worth every penny spent.

I bought the pair of Wildcats last fall and wanted to try them out for a few months before writing a review. I found them to be everything I wanted and after the winter we had, that is saying something. They fit perfectly and remained totally waterproof the entire time through all of the snow and slush. I had no trouble with the "tie hooks" but then I crossed and "looped" the shoe strings like I was going to tie them at each set of "tie hooks" This made the boot have extra ankle support and only once, when I went through approximately 20" of snow, did any snow at all get down the top of the boot. I am not sure that they are warm to -5 or not for you but my feet were warm in them 99% of the time and we had many days below zero ... I usually have cold feet most winters, but not this past one. I am 100% pleased with the boots.

by Web4Deb Not up to LL Bean Quality
Beware of this boot! My first pair, the lace hook popped out. Thinking it was a fluke, I got an exchange pair and it happened again. Overall, the boot would be excellent so if Bean can fix the hooks, it would be a winner. Seriously, they shouldn't be selling this boot looking at the list of failures in the reviews. I can only give it a one star because they are unwearable. Sorry!

by LakesRegionLady Warm and Dry - NOT DURABLE
I have had 3 pairs of these in 3 weeks, the 3rd pair is being sent back today. With each pair, the lacing system was failing after a couple of wears. The metal eyelets were pulling out with little effort. While these boots are incredibly warm and waterproof, they need some serious overhaul on design.

The original pair of these boots had to be returned because of an eyelet which popped after about two weeks of wear. This has been noted in other reviews. LLBean customer service sent out a new pair that I received the next day and told me to send the defective pair back once I received the new pair. I appreciated that.
These are some tough boots. They shed snow and ice easily and provide a firm grip on all surfaces. The tread feels stable. I've worn them through the worst weather I've seen in years this winter in upstate New York, and they've proved to be a good purchase.
I can't say much for warmth other than I've been out in -25 degree wind chills in the snow walking the dog for 15-20 minutes and my feet haven't gotten cold. I don't know if that would be the case if I was outside for an hour or more, but I don't intend to find out!

Rated 3 out of 5 by DodlinTrekker I love them BUT...
My old Wildcat boots for snowshoeing finally wore out so I ordered the new version in black for Christmas. Love the look, feel and ruggedness of product.
However after wearing less than a dozen times a metal clasp popped off while lacing... I immediately ordered the exact model and continued to wear the broken one until the new ones came and then returned the broken pair to the outlet store for a prompt refund.
Once again, after wearing the new ones less then a dozen times, the metal clasp broke off while snowshoeing in the exact same spot as the previous pair. Now with winter still in its full grip, your product in both colors are out of stock... I will just have to manage until something else comes along and I can return this pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MeAndMyBean Great for women, too!
I'm a woman with large, wide feet (women's size 10.5 wide - 11). LL Bean recently sent me a pair of these (in black) to replace an older pair of Wildcats that had failed prematurely (from back when you could get these in both lace-up and zip-up types), and I couldn't be happier with them.
The size 9 fits me wonderfully; with regular socks, there's a nice bit of space inside, but heavy boot socks work well too. These may be just a little less warm than my old Wildcats - those were Thinsulated and these have Primaloft, but it could be due to other design changes as well. However, this isn't a problem; the old ones were ovens, and could get to be too much when in a heated room! These keep my often-cold feet warm, but not too warm, and with boot socks are the equivalent of my old Wildcats in warmth. The ankle support is excellent, and the cut-down shaft over the heel accomodates my short calves nicely.
These seem to be built very solidly. I've had no problems with the eyelets or any other parts. (I noticed that the reviews below that mention eyelet problems were for the brown boots; perhaps that issue was specific to the brown boots.)
In short (too late!), these are excellent boots that I hope to be wearing for many years. Thank you, Bean, for such great boots, and for your top-notch replacement policy and customer service!
