Rated 5 out of 5 by Arumitalicum Better than before
I had purchased multiple pairs of the first version and loved them. Due to the price increase, I tried unsuccessfully to find a more economical substitute. These are worth every penny. I wear the same size as before and the arches are better. They are very unattractive in the pictures online, but they actually looked better than expected. I Hope to get as many years of use from these as the old ones. Only concern is that the quick lace hooks appear to be plastic-used to be brass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by thetrailsmissme Buy these hiking boots right now!!
Having a wide foot and frequent issues with even wide-width athletic shoes causing discomfort I was nervous about how I would feel about these boots after a few outings. But I love to hike and explore and sneakers just don't cut it on rocky or wet terrain...which is why I gave these boots a try with the reassurance that I could return them if I had issues.
I am happy to say that even the first time out I had no discomfort or complaints even without breaking them in first.
My heel is perfectly seated in the boot, there is plenty of room in the toe box so no cramping or numbness which I frequently experience even in some "wide-width" Asics shoes.
If you have wide feet and struggle as I do with finding comfortable shoes in general take a chance and BUY THESE BOOTS NOW.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GotReeds I love this iteration of the Mountain Treads!
I wore a pair of Mountain Treads (ver. 1.0, I think) for the better part of a decade. I loved them. After hundreds of hiking miles, it was time to replace them. The version of the Mountain Treads available at the time simply did not fit my feet. The arch hit in the wrong place, and even the wide size did not play well with my bunion. I was anxious to try this latest iteration of the boot, and hoped they were similar to my old favorites ? but I had a difficult time getting past the white-ish leather. Finally, I decided to give them a whirl. I?m glad I did! The leather is much more subdued than it looks in the photos. The green laces aren?t my style, so I was glad to see that brown laces were also included. The boots fit perfectly right out of the box. Plenty of room in the toe box, but not too loose in the heel. The test for me is how the boots feel going downhill (these feel great -- no squished toes) and how well they protect the bottoms of my feet from tree roots and rocks (they?re like walking on clouds!). I hiked three miles the day they arrived; my feet were very, very happy. I?m looking forward to many years of good hiking in these puppies!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Judyhiker Great quality boot!
I am astounded that this boot is not listed on the major gear sites for hiking and backpacking.
I needed boots to replace my Keens ( the lugs were falling off after less than a year!) and these ll bean boots won out over the other Keen models, Asolos, Merrills, and Oboz.
The biggest factors were a more pronounced under toe support, a nice snug heel cup, and much better volume in the boot itself.
I have a bunion on one foot, and a bone callus from an old lisfrank fracture in the other.
This boot had such a nice volume that I did not have to go for a wide to accommodate the bunion, and I do not have a problem with the boot pushing on pressure points on the top of my instep.
The tapered toe ( as opposed to the Keen square toe), also accommodates my longer second toe ( Morton's toe), nicely too, so that it is not banging against the front of the boot.
It took about 3 day hikes, 5-8 miles to soften the boot up a bit, and I am planning on a 100 mile trek in England with these. Since breaking them in, I have taken 5 or 6 more hikes of around 10 miles with a fully loaded backpack ( around 26 lbs) to train for my upcoming trek, and have had no problem at all with the boots.
I replaced the insoles ( you have to do this with any boot except maybe Scarpa) with super feet insoles, and I use the following prep/ sock system: - application of Sportslick on feet, wright sock sock liners, keen mid weight acrylic/ wool socks. I have not had a hint of a blister with this system.
I was not thrilled with the off white leather, but functionality comes first. Also I was pleasantly surprised to see that the leather is darkening to a neutral gray.
I weighed the boots , size 7, and they came to a touch over 1 Kilo, which is not outrageous for a good backpacking boot.
Just one note to LL bean- it would be great if you had a ramp in your shoe dept., so that the boot could be tested on inclines and descents, and I think more hikers and backpackers would look at this boot if the exact weight were listed.

I have been purchasing this boot for over 10 years now. It is a great all purpose boot. I take it on day hikes and 10+ day back packing trips and it does the job well. Never been disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by TexasBeanFrequentFlyer Comfortable Boot
I was a huge fan of the prior version of this boot - had 4 pair over many years. The new version is comfortable right out of the box. It seems a little long so my second pair was a half size smaller. Those may be too small. They seem to run long but they are so comfortable, not sure it matters with thicker socks. I wear them every day. I have problem feet so I need thicker soles. These are perfect. While the shoe trends are to thinner soles, these boots stay true to outdoor use. I hike and walk the dog in them. My only wish is the Vibram sole was more "waffle" like as seen on other hiking boots. The soles pick up a lot of rocks that usually fall out of other boots.
I highly recommend these boots for all around comfort and durability in a variety of settings. Excellent replacement job L.L. Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Verified Reviewer Wow, what service.
After 10 years the sole COMPLETELY disintegrated FOLLOWING a trail hike. Called company and without the blink of eye they offered the replacement of an updated version of same shoe, even when I went with 1/2 size larger. Couldn't be more pleased. Highly recommend quality of this shoe.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Randini Did not fit, but nice boot,
I ordered 2 boots to try for 1-5 mile hikes in muddy ,rocky trails, sometimes with stabilizers for ice, and picked Oboz over these.
They fit me better , great arch, less bulky.

I wear and 11 and other boots are too short for all day hiking. These are true to size and are the most comfortable shoes I think I now own. This said GET THEM!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Silverbird Seem like nice boots -- but not for my crummy feet
In a nutshell, I wasn't able to wear these boots because the wide wasn't wide enough to accommodate my bunion, and an extra wide wasn't available (at least not in women's sizes). I'm really disappointed. These seemed like well-made boots that would have been comfortable on the trail. Also, the color was more understated than it looked in the picture, which I thought was a good thing.
But back to the fit issue: Surely I'm not the only woman with a bunion who's having trouble finding hiking boots with a wide-enough forefoot. Giving up hiking is not an option! Please, L.L. Bean, expand your options and help us out!
