Rated 4 out of 5 by thornvalleyfarm size way off but wonderful shirt
I've wanted a river driver shirt for years but never caught a sale. I was disappointed that the women's styling didn't come in the same wool percentage as the men's, but I finally got a men's as a gift and though I love it, it is actually a bit scratchy so I love how soft the women's is and still very warm.
After reading reviews and because of size availability I ordered 2 size large in this shirt even though I'm a size 2-4. I figured I could let them shrink then. We'll they are an absolutely perfect size for me. I ordered another for my mom and it was a bit big, but we haven't compared. Mine don't seem to have shrunk, washed on cold and laid flat to dry. I'm inclined to order from the other listing where more colors are still available, but I'm afraid the sizing might be different since the price is. I feel very fortunate to have two of these soft and cozy shirts for such a nice sale price each. I can wear them over long sleeves and get several days out of them between washings. I'd absolutely recommend to a friend, I'd just say to size way up.

I have a ladies' River Driver's shirt from the mid-1990s. Only now is it finally giving out; it has been rugged and comfortable and never shrank in the wash. But I'm finding the new River Driver's shirts to be very disappointing. They shrink up and aren't terribly durable. I notice that the difference in construction appears to be that crucial 10% nylon they used to put in; it's now gone, though I notice the men's shirt still has it. I assume the thinking has been that we'd rather have a softer shirt and don't care if it holds up to wear and tear, or even, frankly, one round with the dryer. Stop messing with a great shirt, L.L. Bean! We love the nice, bright colors you've been producing for us, but we'd rather have the same durable construction as the men's shirt--and no, it's not the same to just buy a smaller men's shirt; for many of us, the cut isn't right. Please go back to the old design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by carol1949 I don't want to take it off
We have had a brutally cold winter in Ontario and this shirt/sweater is so warm and so comfortable that I hate to take it off!
It fits true to the LL Bean sizing, and I have washed it twice, hanging it to air dry and so far no shrinkage. I don't think I would change anything about this shirt and I may order another one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by LaurelLBean Beautiful but disappointed!
Purchased in December and upon arrival I tried it on immediately. I loved it....perfect size, color and quality. After the first washing I went to wear it again and found it had major pilling all over the garment. I guess it will make a great under shirt but I am very disappointed to spend good money for a lack-of-quality item.

I've bought the men's River Driver Henley and was pleased to see that Bean was offering them in women's sizes and multiple colors. I immediately ordered four different colors. I've been wearing two of them and like others said, they pill horribly. They're also too short. I wear them as undershirts for outdoor farm work in the winter and being too short to stay in your jeans and letting cold air go up your back is not pleasant. I'm wearing them since I bought them but won't be recommending them or buying anything other than the men's shirts for future use. These need to go back to the drawing board.

Rated 2 out of 5 Lacking quality
Was disappointed in the quality of the river driver shirt. Should be a carefree garment, you should be able to wash the shirt with your jeans. This shirt has to be wash in cold water and by hand, also it must dry flat. You must be very careful not to shrink it. Must air dry flat.

I just started buying from ll bean and discovered these henleys. Its the first shirts I actually feel warm in. Perfect fit and so cozy. I can wear with out anything over them and I still feel warm. But I recommend to wash in cold water and hang dry.

I bought two of these shirts in red heather and a blue floral. The first couple wearing both were fine. After about 3 washings though they both started to pill. Very disappointing. The men's shirts don't seem to have this problem. Also, the mens shirts are warmer!

I am here to purchase my third for myself in addition to one I ordered to give as a gift. The material is thick, soft, and so comfortable! Because of other reviews, I have laundered carefully--- and have not put them in the dryer. With that extra care, I haven't had any issues with shrinkage or pilling--- its worth it to me to spend a little extra time to keep this great shirt in good condition.
I like my clothes to fit a little big, but I have been comfortable in a large--- I am 120 lbs/ 5'2" . So, I would say it runs a little smaller than you might expect--- But, I also wanted to allow for some shrinking. So far--- I love it & would definitely recommend it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by thequiltygardener Nice and warm
After reading the reviews on this I took the advice of others and ordered up a size. I normally take a med so I got the large in the oatmeal color and it fits me good. I have washed it but did not put it in the dryer and it still fits the same. There has not been any pilling yet and I find it very warm and cozy. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the fact that it is not true to size from the start.
