I took this jacket on a trip to London. I wore my jacket on a rainy evening and stayed warm and dry. I especially liked the generous hood and zipper closure. I purchased the jacket in petite small, my usual L.L.Bean size.

Rated 3 out of 5 by WebfootedNW This Is fitted, not relaxed fit
Was told when called for info, jacket appears (from front picture) a relaxed fit but not so. I can't wear a fitted one--I need a straight cut relaxed fit. Description doesn't specify. Also sleeves have elastic but too big for my average wrists. Nice weight for northwest rainy weather and seems well made. Disappointed that so many jackets by this and other companies are fitted--I am not shaped that way!

Well I got well and truly wet yesterday in this jacket which obviously cannot stand up to mountain weather!
I wanted a lighter jacket that was easier to pack than the two good Gortex ones that I already have. It does pack very well and is light in weight, but it is not at all waterproof.
I guess you get what you pay for with this garment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JLR54 Nice jacket, runs a little big
My teenage daughter needed a rain jacket for walking back and forth to school and work and she chose this because of the good deal I was able to get on it. She's 5'1" and about 118 lbs. Her measurements are exactly XS petite but we ordered size small petite based on some reviews that say it runs small and also to allow for extra layers underneath. That was a mistake! The jacket was huge on her. I'm the same height, 20 lbs heavier and the size small petite was too big on me as well. Either the jacket we got was labeled wrong or they run very big. I returned and exchanged it for an XS petite and while it's still a little loose on her it'll work. The sleeves are a perfect length. The gathering around the hood is great because it should stay put if it's a little windy. It's lightweight so she shouldn't get too hot if it's a warmer day. She chose the mulberry color, which she also really likes. L.L. Bean handled the exchange extremely fast. We received the smaller jacket 5 business days after returning the original purchase. I gave the jacket 4 stars because of the sizing issue.

I love this jacket - it's lightweight, comfortable, looks great AND it's definitely WATERPROOF! During our 4th of July cookout, it starting pouring and the jacket kept me bone dry (the food was another story), It's absolutely perfect. Thank you L.L. Bean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tiffers923 Convenient Jacket!
I bought this jacket a few months ago because campus is always windy-- my clothes always end up soaked, and my umbrella usually gets destroyed. I prefer rain jackets, but who wants to carry a jacket around all day? When folded, this is easy to fit into a backpack or tote, which means I can always keep it on days when there is spontaneous rain. It repels water well, but I haven't washed it yet.
I got this in the Alpine Gold because it was on sale, it's a LOUD color but it goes well with my navy Bean Boots. Also, I don't have to worry about blending into the background on stormy days! I got this in an XL and it's a bit loose. I usually wear a Large but the looseness lets me layer quite a bit under it.

This jacket just came in the mail yesterday, and this morning we had a nice steady rain, so I went for a walk to see how good the jacket was in the rain. It was PERFECT in every way. Nice and light, the zipper zips up to my chin so no rain gets in at the neck, the cuffs are snug but not too tight, the length is perfect, and it is completely waterproof. And when I got back home, I just shook the rain off the jacket while I was on my porch, so it didn't drip water onto the floor in the house. I ordered the mulberry color, which was on sale, and it is a rich, beautiful color. And using my coupons, it cost only around six dollars. What a bargain, even at full price !!! I highly recommend this jacket.

I ordered this Discovery Rain Jacket in Dark Royal Blue.
It has cheap zipper pulls.
The hood has elastic and messes my hair.
The hood does not detach.
The sleeves do not have snaps or velcro for adjustment
Cheap mesh, cheap velcro.
No internal pocket.
No fabric below the zip so that you have something to hold onto when zipping the jacket up.
No two-way front zipper.
I wish LL Bean would go back to making quality jackets.

The jacket fits perfectly and I love it. Does anyone know how to fold it to fit in its own pocket? Can't seem to figure it out. LLBean needs to send a tutorial with the jacket.

Just received my rain jacket, Glad I read the previous reviews and ordered a size larger than what I usually do. Normally I wear a large and this time I ordered an extra large. I was hoping to be able to put layers under it, but the fit across the chest area is snug with just a tank top on. There doesn't appear to be any styling to the body and the fabric is cut straight down on the sides. No drawstring on the bottom hem so I'm not sure it will keep the wind out at all. Hood again has no drawstring but instead is oversized to hang out past your face to keep the rain off. Will have to wait for rain to see if it is waterproof or not.
