These were not comfortable for me. They were kind of high on the ankle and rubbed too much. I did not complete my usual hour walk due to the shoe. I can tell they are warm and seemed to be repelling water nicely. It was snowing when I wore them. They were nice looking and seemed well made but I did return them.

I really wanted these to work. They fit very well on my narrow feet. They were comfortable after a short breaking in period. However, the laces didn't last at all. They were fraying after a very short amount of time. LLBean didn't have replacement ones to match, so the shoes went back. Suggestion: provide extra laces, or at least have them available for purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Rhubarb737 Happy with this hiker
I ordered this hiker in the medium B width in size 8.5 initially. I found that when I tested the shoe going down an incline, my toe would come up against the toe box, despite the shoe fitting well otherwise. Given I intended to wear them hiking (of course), this wouldn't do, so I exchanged them for a size 9. This improved the toe box issue, but did create some roominess elsewhere that was a little less ideal, but not bad with tightening the laces up. The tan/coral colour is very nice, as was the moss green/tan colour I returned in the smaller size. I wore them up on a short hike in the mountains a few weeks ago/wore them while doing some eagle watching in cooler weather and they kept my feet warm and I was happy with them. Haven't tested waterproofness yet. I think they could use a little more arch support, and there is a bit of compromise between getting the right toe box fit and fitting the rest of your foot (could just be me), but overall Im pleased so far, especially having gotten them on sale.

Had to send first pair back.Runs VERY narrow. After ordering a 7 wide found them to be very comfortable. Very good looking shoe. After wearing them for two months have found wear on the interior of the shoe....small holes in the interior fabric. These shoes are worn about an hour and a half a day for my morning walk. They are waterproof.Would not expect to see any wear on a $99 pair of shoes after such a short period of time

Rated 5 out of 5 by GrayHairGirl Great for hiking on uneven surfaces like rocks!
I went to Costa Rica for a couple of weeks and ended up wearing these hikers on a 2 hour white water raft ride that I had to walk into the river (shoes totally submerged) to get into the raft and got drenched the rest of the ride. These shoes, I had to pour water out of them and they smelled horrible. With the humidity they didn't dry the rest of the trip, so since I figured I had nothing to lose when I got home, I threw them in the washing machine with a couple of towels and they came out looking like new. They dried in 2 days and feel just like they did the day I got them.

I purchased these to replace my old shoes. I should have listened to the recent reviews. Much more narrow with a smaller toe box and even shorter than my older pair. They also seemed really stiff. I did not notice that my ankle bones were chafed. And they were not as attractive as my old ones!
Please bring back my older ones, I really loved them and I will take them to the shoe repair and get new insoles. They lasted a long time, nearly 5 years with 5 days a week wear.

The fit was good but my socks and feet were completely wet after just walking in wet grass in a field. I was very disappointed since having a waterproof shoe was important to me.

I bought these just before I went on a 2.5 week traveling/hiking trip to New Zealand, and I was not disappointed in how these shoes performed. I didn't know at the time, but the weather is in constant flux there, as it is an island country. It rained just about every day at some point, and these shoes got me up and down muddy trails without getting wet once.
They were a little snug (one foot of mine has a slight bunion), but broke in pretty quickly. They are so waterproof that one time that we got caught in a downpour during a hike, it was only a half-hour from that point to us reaching the car that my shoes got waterlogged, and that was only because the jeans I was wearing soaked through, leaked onto my socks, and the water was trapped in the shoes. They dried out quickly and are no worse for the wear.
Your socks will get damp after a while if you wear them all day and fail to take the shoes off, but I find with hiking that's a norm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by DoctorMomPhD Nothing like my old trail model hikers
I loved the old trail model hikers, but these are terrible. Like someone else commented - these shoes rub my ankles so badly they are now swollen and painful. LL Bean no longer makes any low-cut shoes that fit my foot comfortably.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mysid Wide size still too narrow
Wow, I ordered the wide and they seemed like a narrow. The stitching also rubs on my feet even if they were a bit wider. The quality of these shoes is also not that great. Disappointed with sizing and quality - will be sending them back
