Rated 2 out of 5 by acampgirl Excellent wide width, but cut too high
I'm disappointed that LL Bean so radically changed the styling on their low Trail Model hikers since I love my old pair. This pair is equally good with fit for a foot wide in the toes, but is cut too high on the sides resulting in rubbing on the ankles.
After wearing around the house several times I decided the ankles didn't rub much - big mistake since the first time I walked on uneven gravel trail the shoes wore a sore spot on my left ankle before I'd even walked a mile. So disappointing that LL Bean no longer makes a waterproof low hiker that fits me.

The first pair I ordered were too tight. Next 1/2 size up were too big. LL Bean needs to have products made in USA. I find products made in other countries don't fit the same.

Rated 5 out of 5 by chihuahuamama30 Enjoying these shoes!
I recently purchased these shoes because I was going for the weekend to visit a friend in the mountains, which I knew would involve at least one hike. These shoes did the trick. I found these to be very comfortable, lightweight, and well-made. I am very happy with this purchase!

These shoes were a replacement for a pair that I purchased a year ago. The inside of the heel area frayed and caused irritation on those shoes. However, those were no longer available and the ones that took their place are unacceptable. They are just plain ugly. I will keep the ones that cause irritation and have them repaired.

Rated 4 out of 5 by CenterportMom Fit nicely; light weight support
Fit is great. Due to continuing snowy conditions, I have not used them for an easy hike in the woods yet which is why I bought them. Fit is quite good and the shoe feels lightweight and supportive when I have tried them on. Once I actually get out for a hike, my rating may move to upward.

This is the perfect shoe for a SC girl who doesn't see snow too often! Purchased for a weekend ski trip in February. This was the week most of the country was getting pounded with below normal freezing temps and snow, and I didn't own any shoes appropriate for that kind of weather. These hikers performed exactly as described-feet were warm and dry, and I felt safe walking on icy snow covered ground and other slick surfaces (steps, decks, etc). They are a little bit narrow, but they weren't uncomfortable (I ordered a 7M). I didn't wear thick socks, and they were fine. I'm sure the more I wear them, the better they'll feel, just like any other shoes. I wish I'd had a pair of these long before now for those rare occasions when we do get snow/ice in SC.

I purchased these waterproof hiking shoes because as my feet become more deformed and swollen with rheumatoid arthritis, I needed some new shoes that had more room in the toe box, and that are padded enough to be comfortable hiking short distances. I used to be an active climber & hiker, but I am now limited to short distances. We are hoping to take some vacations this summer where I would like to be able to walk short distances, and I think these shoes will "fit the bill." They were very comfortable as soon as I put them on, and they fit with my orthotics, giving me good support. I was also pleasantly surprised by the colors of the shoe. They aren't as tan as they appeared on line, and are a good neutral color that will look good with everything, and wear well. I like these better than a more expensive pair (different brand) that I had purchased and will return. I would recommend these hikers to anyone needing a good quality, well built, comfortable shoe that will provide good support on uneven terrain.

These were sized narrow. Poor quality workmanship, looked not well made, unlike most other LLBean purchases.

This is a great looking hiking shoe. It's nice and sturdy, but not clunky. It does run very narrow. I ordered the normal width, hoping they would be ok with sockies instead of thick socks. They were very small across the toe box and felt a little short as well, but that could have been because I could not move my toes. At all. I am 57 and have a little arthritis; it is not a problem with running shoes, but it was with these. If you are in doubt about the width go for the wide.
