The fit was good but my socks and feet were completely wet after just walking in wet grass in a field. I was very disappointed since having a waterproof shoe was important to me.

I bought these just before I went on a 2.5 week traveling/hiking trip to New Zealand, and I was not disappointed in how these shoes performed. I didn't know at the time, but the weather is in constant flux there, as it is an island country. It rained just about every day at some point, and these shoes got me up and down muddy trails without getting wet once.
They were a little snug (one foot of mine has a slight bunion), but broke in pretty quickly. They are so waterproof that one time that we got caught in a downpour during a hike, it was only a half-hour from that point to us reaching the car that my shoes got waterlogged, and that was only because the jeans I was wearing soaked through, leaked onto my socks, and the water was trapped in the shoes. They dried out quickly and are no worse for the wear.
Your socks will get damp after a while if you wear them all day and fail to take the shoes off, but I find with hiking that's a norm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by DoctorMomPhD Nothing like my old trail model hikers
I loved the old trail model hikers, but these are terrible. Like someone else commented - these shoes rub my ankles so badly they are now swollen and painful. LL Bean no longer makes any low-cut shoes that fit my foot comfortably.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mysid Wide size still too narrow
Wow, I ordered the wide and they seemed like a narrow. The stitching also rubs on my feet even if they were a bit wider. The quality of these shoes is also not that great. Disappointed with sizing and quality - will be sending them back

Rated 2 out of 5 by acampgirl Excellent wide width, but cut too high
I'm disappointed that LL Bean so radically changed the styling on their low Trail Model hikers since I love my old pair. This pair is equally good with fit for a foot wide in the toes, but is cut too high on the sides resulting in rubbing on the ankles.
After wearing around the house several times I decided the ankles didn't rub much - big mistake since the first time I walked on uneven gravel trail the shoes wore a sore spot on my left ankle before I'd even walked a mile. So disappointing that LL Bean no longer makes a waterproof low hiker that fits me.

The first pair I ordered were too tight. Next 1/2 size up were too big. LL Bean needs to have products made in USA. I find products made in other countries don't fit the same.

Rated 5 out of 5 by chihuahuamama30 Enjoying these shoes!
I recently purchased these shoes because I was going for the weekend to visit a friend in the mountains, which I knew would involve at least one hike. These shoes did the trick. I found these to be very comfortable, lightweight, and well-made. I am very happy with this purchase!

These shoes were a replacement for a pair that I purchased a year ago. The inside of the heel area frayed and caused irritation on those shoes. However, those were no longer available and the ones that took their place are unacceptable. They are just plain ugly. I will keep the ones that cause irritation and have them repaired.

Rated 4 out of 5 by CenterportMom Fit nicely; light weight support
Fit is great. Due to continuing snowy conditions, I have not used them for an easy hike in the woods yet which is why I bought them. Fit is quite good and the shoe feels lightweight and supportive when I have tried them on. Once I actually get out for a hike, my rating may move to upward.

This is the perfect shoe for a SC girl who doesn't see snow too often! Purchased for a weekend ski trip in February. This was the week most of the country was getting pounded with below normal freezing temps and snow, and I didn't own any shoes appropriate for that kind of weather. These hikers performed exactly as described-feet were warm and dry, and I felt safe walking on icy snow covered ground and other slick surfaces (steps, decks, etc). They are a little bit narrow, but they weren't uncomfortable (I ordered a 7M). I didn't wear thick socks, and they were fine. I'm sure the more I wear them, the better they'll feel, just like any other shoes. I wish I'd had a pair of these long before now for those rare occasions when we do get snow/ice in SC.
