I hesitated to buy them because they are a medium width and I prefer wide width but these boots are roomy enough for me. The padding is soft & pliable and does not cut into my calf muscles. I just love them and I look forward to wearing them this winter.

I bought these boots to replace a pair of Wildcat boots that I had gotten many years ago. These boots are not as warm, and not as comfortable for wearing all day. I considered purchasing another pair of Wildcat boots, but they were different than they used to be (a friend had purchased a pair, and I was able to try hers on). I wouldn't get these boots again.

I wanted to wait a few months and see what these boots could do in New England weather before I made a review and I have to say that these are the best snow boots I've ever had. I took them hiking all throughout Vermont and New Hampshire on slippery rocks and absolutely submerged them once in an ankle deep puddle and stayed completely dry and didn't fall once. They have also helped me survive the onslaught of Boston snow and are good-looking enough to wear out and about. They're cushioned and warm, especially with warm socks (socks are important). Might want to go a half size up if you wear super thick woolly ones. Thinner socks fit well. The inner label stitching does tend to be itchy if the socks aren't high enough but I usually tuck my pants into them anyway. Also important to lace them all the way up because once snow gets in there the rubber insulation pretty much traps the moisture inside for a while. All that aside, great boots! Definitely worth it.

Just bought these and I'm so glad I did. Living on the South Shore of Massachusetts, halfway between Boston and Cape Cod and we've had 18" blizzards for 3 weeks in a row along with a few 6" storms in between. There's about 5 feet of snow on the ground and temps below zero. Went out to clean up some snow banks in my new boots today. Didn't feel any cold at all and they have great traction. I usually use a pair of traction covers on my boots, but these seemed to be great without them. I usually have to buy "D" width, but these are plenty wide enough even if you have a couple pairs of socks on which really isn't necessary because the boots are very warm all by themselves.

Very pleased with "storm chaser lace-up boots" - very comfortable for walking, good support, have kept my feet warm & dry with all of the snow we have had. Would definitely recommend these boots.

I wore these today and had to step into fairly deep water -- my feet stayed warm and dry. They are also very comfortable for walking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by BOStoTO A Bit Disappointing
PROS: True to size; Roomy toe box; Keeps feet warm and dry; sturdy
CONS: Minimal padding, labels stitched to inner sides so their sharp edges can stab continuously as you walk if your socks are not high enough or drop down
I was disappointed in this boot. They look nice, do the trick in terms of fit and providing ample room for toes. Plus, they will keep your feet very warm and dry.
***THE PROBLEM these boots have is that the foot bed padding has been neglected.***
The boots look like hiking boots or sneakers but because there is very little padding for my feet I find that they are good for short periods only or extreme weather during which I'd be willing to endure foot pain in exchange for having my feet stay warm and dry.
I think I can better things by buying gel or foam inserts (the foot bed liner these boots come with is removeable - and btw made of very, very thin foam) but really I shouldn't have to.
When I remove the native liner, where I'd expect to see cushioning I see only stitching and can feel the hard plastic, treaded soles beneath. I feel these when I walk in the boot, as well. The discomfort is concentrated at the front of my foot.
I have already tried ball of the foot gel inserts but this didn't ease the pain - so the next step will be a full foot insert.
Unfortunately, I didn't notice this problem until I had worn the boots outdoors for a 3-4 hour stretch or I would have returned them.
Prior to this I'd had LLBean duck boots for several years. They also had a hard foot bed once the fleece inside had been tamped down by wear, but were nothing as uncomfortable as these.
BOTTOM LINE: Buy this boot if you don't plan to wear them often or for long periods at a time; if you're willing to buy additional inserts (despite having already paid good money for the boots). They definitely would NOT be good for hiking or exercise -- they just don't have the necessary cushioning and support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MainerGal Dry, warm, and comfortable
I work as a rural mail carrier, so these boots have been through water, slush, mud, and snow already this winter. My feet have stayed warm and dry even when the uppers got wet beyond the rubber. The boots feel like sneakers because they are so lightweight and comfortable, and I've experienced great traction on everything except sheer ice, and I can't blame the boot for not being able to defy the laws of physics. (Just wear a pair of crampons.) My one minor criticism is that the toe box is slightly snug for me, but my feet are wide and the boots are still quite comfy with midweight boot socks. In fact, these are the boots I choose to wear when I walk 5-10K on my days off. To sum it up: I wear these boots for several 12-hour work days--partially on my feet inside and partially in and out of my vehicle in all types of weather--and although the rest of my body is tired and achy at the end of the day, my feet are dry and comfortable.

I'm happy with these boots. I walk a fast, pounding three miles on unforgiving concrete sidewalks in the morning, and my feet feel completely cushioned and supported -- no foot pain ever. They feel a little heavy - like wearing ice skates without the blade. As for size, I'm between an 8 1/2 and a 9, and ordered 9, fortunately, as they fit just right - not too big.

What an excellent pair of boots. They are exactly what I needed.
My Lace-Up, Storm Chaser boots are comfortable, have great ankle support, have good traction, provide really good protection from mud/snow, and are nice looking! In addition, they have a very comfy footbed and fit (the size 7 medium is roomy enough for my wide foot). Most importantly, these boots also provide excellent ?break-over? (the toe is turned up, like a running/walking shoe, which really eases the pressure on my bad knee). I am so relieved to find a pair of boots with this level of comfort that retain a technical level of quality and performance.
While I usually favor a pair of L.L. Bean Cresta hiking boots, this time around I needed something a little less substantial to help ease me back into action after sustaining some knee and ankle injuries. I don?t want to imply, however, that these boots aren?t high-quality ? quite the opposite. These boots provide the quality, fit, and COMFORT that I have been looking for. As a testament to their comfort, I accidentally wore them to the mall and am pleased to report that my feet, ankles, and knees did not hurt afterwards! (I should add, however, that I did replace the existing insoles with different pair of insoles with higher arch support, but that is not a fault of the boots. It?s a fault of my feet.)
What a relief to find boots that ease my aching feet/ankles/knees and enable me to get out and get active. I plan to get another pair of boots in the Storm Chaser line ? maybe the slip-ons for quick trips to the bird feeder or the barn. If they?re anywhere near as wonderful as the first pair, I won?t be disappointed.
Thank you, L.L. Bean, for building a pair of boots that give me ?Happy Feet!?
