Rated 5 out of 5 by jenhop60 Ample space for overnight trip
This backpack has plenty of space for gear for an overnight (or 2), except no room for sleeping bag, which probably could be attached somehow to the bottom. I used it for an overnight hiking trip, but we were not camping (stayed at a remote lodge accessible only by hiking). Nice hidden compartment on the underside of the "brain" with clasp for key(s). Lightweight and comfortable.

I was somewhat disappointed with this backpack. I carry one every day, and I was replacing an older one that had zipper pockets with easy access to the contents. I used it to organize my stuff, kind of like cargo pants.
The Escape pack has only one main pouch, and one must open two stick-together straps of other compartments just to get at it. The little top compartment has a zipper, but the compartment is up top which isn't good for walking balance. And the lower little compartment doesn't close securely.
The pack is lightweight, but it really isn't good for daily use in which you organize your books, clothing, first aid items etc. Also, it has various straps hanging off it which will be of no use to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by rickpiek2 back pack short trips
I had a LLBean back pack for several years. The top zipper outside fabric ripped when I tried to close it on a recent trip to Hawaii. Once I returned I found another back pack which fills my needs. Has many pockets and also that important holder on both sides for water bottles or containers. We are going on another trip and I can't wait to try it out. we our a 60's years old couple who enjoy hikes in woods or forest and need only a smaller pack. This fits perfectly.

Pictures don't do it justice when the pack is mostly empty. The outer pouch-which is exposed to the elements by having mesh on each side, fills with water in the center. To get to the top loading storage, 2 buckles and a draw string need to be loosened before you can get to your stuff. As a top loader, that means you need to dig for items that are packed first or moved down during settling to the bottom. I'm looking for the packing slip to return it. It does not make for a good commuter backpack.

I haven't used it yet was was expecting some product literature about its features. I know you just put it on and go but maybe it has some features that aren't readily apparent, which would be useful to know.

Got a previous version of this bag in 2012 and I'm finally getting around to returning it after letting it sit unused for a couple of years because it just wasn't a good pack. From the pictures, I would say some of the updates on the outside look really great, especially the change in material. This was a pretty big bag though and when packed, even only minimally, felt very heavy and got very hot on the body. I also found that you really couldn't get much into the bag and it wasn't as waterproof as other L.L.Bean bags that I have had.

This is a relatively small backpack, not much bigger than a day pack.
The water bottle holders on the side are for short bottles only and therefore not that useful.
The shoulder straps lack padding, which makes carrying the backpack for long periods very uncomfortable.
Expected a better product considering the price and the fact that LLBean put their name on it.

I purchased this pack for my daughters trip to Costa Rica, she was very happy with the pack and traveled up and down the coast for 10 days surfing and meeting interesting people. She said it was comfortable and held a lot of gear. Very pleased!

Have always used LL Bean backpacks for my children and now for my grandson. They last forever, keep their shape, are sturdy and don't fade. The company will always replace anything that could possibly go wrong, no questions asked. My daughter still has her high school backpack, which is now over 25 years old. I think that alone speaks for itself for quality.

This backpckack offers easy access side mesh pockets for easy retreival of items. Being able to fit in a camelpack is a big plus. The shoulder straps are very comfortable and secure enough to keep the pack from shifting while climbing rough terrain.
