Rated 4 out of 5 by momosmom Really pretty, runs small
When I opened this up just now, I was really happy with how pretty this sweater is. Beautiful fisherman knit in cotton. I got natural, and the color IS natural, buttons are nice, and the button holes are not too tight, as so often happens now. But it does run small. I usually wear a small in LLBean shirts, and buy a medium if I want to be able to throw it in the dryer. So I ordered a medium based on the reviews, and even then, it's closer than I expected. With a style like this, I kind of wanted it to be drapey, and it's more close. I'll wear it for a couple of hours to see if it stretches out some since it's cotton. If not, I'll exchange for a large, the first time I've ever needed to do that at LLBean.

I'm surprised to read that anyone has had performance problems with this handsome sweater. I agree that its slimmer shape may require ordering a larger than usual size. I normally order a medium, but found that the petite large was perfect for my 5'3" height.
All natural fibers will shrink and become stiffer (more dense) when laundered, but I don't think this item does so more than usual. The trick to keeping the shape of a cotton knit is to close the buttons, turn it wrong side out, and place in a mesh sweater bag, then wash in a normal machine load in cold water. In the same bag, I dry it on a warm setting until damp dry, then remove it and "block" it flat on a towel until completely dry. I run over it with a warm iron which seems to "stretch" and soften the cotton fibers, and it's almost like new.
I'm hoping there will be more colors in this style come Fall, because I'd love to order more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Carolsreviews Nice sweater for summer
I have been looking for this kind of sweater for quite a while. It will be fine for summer with lightweight blouses and tees, but would not be warm enough for colder weather. I ordered a small, my usual size. in the past LL Bean sweaters tended to run large, but this is truly small, so it would not fit over anything at all bulky. Some customers might want to order a size larger than usual.

I loved this sweater in the store. Bought this sweater and wore it many times and loved it! I washed the sweater following the instructions and now I am very sad. The buttonholes somehow got bigger and now the sweater will not stay buttoned. I will probably return it to the store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Wendy922 Beautiful, heavy, order next size up
This sweater (in Ember color) arrived yesterday. It is beautiful and heavy/thick material. What a great pattern and texture too.
I took the advice of other reviews and ordered the next size up and I'm so glad I did because it fits me perfectly.
I am typically a size 8. I am 5'5" and weigh 122 pounds. I usually wear size Small in LLBean sweaters, but I ordered the Medium size in this particular sweater and it was the right decision.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Helmel1229 coveside sweater
I bought the coveside cardigan in the natural colour. It does look lovely but the cotton is a bit stiff - not a comfortable as my other Bean sweaters. I am almost 5'4" and 135 lbs - I ordered the small misses size and it fits just right.

Rated 4 out of 5 by HuckleberryMom Mostly wonderful, I think
My Coveside sweater arrived today -- very attractive and just the right weight for spring. However, I should have paid attention to the reviews. I usually wear a medium, but this one does run small. I'm returning it for a large. If it fits and also washes well, I'll upgrade to a 5-star rating.
PS: I have relatively narrow shoulders and long arms -- the medium sleeve length was too short.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WestervilleShopper cozy and classic, looks expensive
I considered the sizing advice carefully and went P-XL when I usually try REG - L in Bean sweaters. I am really happy with this. The natural color is darker than I expected. I will try to be careful about laundering it, though typically I machine wash and dry Bean cotton sweaters and they take the abuse. The sleeves may end up a little too short but too long of sleeves are a nuisance too. I am pleasantly surprised with the Bean sweaters that I have acquired this year. They are more fitted and therefore more flattering.

Rated 3 out of 5 by MEMama2 I love the style, but...
I have tried two different sizes of the Coveside cardigan and have had the same problem with each: after washing (cold and air-drying), the button holes have stretched, as has the sweater in odd places. After a wash, it felt like this sweater was somewhat stiff and a bit misshapen. The buttons, too, have loosened quickly, so they hang a bit. I have the non-cardigan version of this sweater and have had no problems with it at all. It's not terrible, but I don't end up wearing it very often and I had thought it would be a favorite.

I am 5ft 6 1/4in. tall, 135lbs and I normally wear an XS in LL Bean sweaters but sized up to a SMALL after reading the reviews, glad I did. The small fits perfectly, and the mallard green color is gorgeous! This is a beautifully detailed sweater, so pretty!
