Friends asked my husband and I to go out for a walk on a Trail at night. Usually I just wear athletic shoes. But it was cold and slippery. I purchased the Salomon Ellipse because of their comfort level. They didn't feel bulky, but they were supportive, comfortable to wear, didn't rub/chafe my heal, and were water resistant. They worked great! I sometimes suffer with a feeling that my foot is trapped, my toes going numb, etc. based on the design of an enclosed shoe and my having a high arch. It didn't happen with these and I can't wait to wear them more often and take them with me camping.

I've worn these shoes for 2 weeks now, and I am very happy with them. I agree with previous reviews stating the sizing takes some effort. I wear a 6 1/2 to 7 in most shoes, and I ordered these in a 6 1/2, and still have plenty of room. I know the 6 would be too tight. though. As for the comfort level, I have very high arches and found these a bit hard to adjust to in the first week. I could feel the pressure against my arch, leading me to think someone with low arches or flat feet might find these shoes painful. I'm thankful for the extra support though. I haven't had a chance to test these in wet conditions yet, so I can't say anything about the waterproof aspect. All in all, I am now a fan of Salomon shoes and will try them again in a few years if/when these ever wear out.

They look great and are very sturdy and stable.
However, the instep is very narrow, with a high arch. Very uncomfortable. My feet are average -- medium "B" width and they felt squeezed in the middle. Not what I want for long day on the trail!
They are also slightly on the small side lengthwise. I normally wear a 6 but would need to size up to a 6.5 in these (if there wasn't the narrowness issue).
