Rated 5 out of 5 by HighDesert Ultralight compact jacket
This is my go to jacket for ultralight backpacking. Very warm for its mass, manages wind and sheds very light rain. An external layer will keep the hood cinched in high winds. Compresses into available backpack space or its own pocket and can serve as a small pillow. It is easily laundered and dries very quickly.

The jacket is watertight and can get a little sweaty. Is also warm for its bulk but not enough for below freezing by itself. Worn with layers it sufficed for near-zero.
It could use an added drawstring to tighten the hood around one's face, both to stop breezes and to aid sightlines.
The bright yellow makes me visible walking at night.

I got an 850 down jacket for Christmas and had a problem with it. When I tried to exchange, it wasn't available till June. So, I got the Primaloft Packaway. For my area, the Primaloft is more useful except for about 10% of the time when its cold enough for the down. But, I'm very pleased with the Primaloft and just add layers when needed. XL Tall fits fine. A hood adjust would be a nice to have feature, but I just slide a head band down around my neck and it tightens everything up. Great for walking and outdoor activity.

Rated 4 out of 5 by NewEnglandJonny Excellent product, one gripe only
I bought this jacket at the start of this winter and it has been a cold and snowy one! This jacket is an excellent layer. It is, as advertised, thin and light but it does very well keeping one warm. I've only had to go to my heavier down coat when the temps get in the single digits and lower. It also works well in tandem with my light storm shell as a complete system. It dries out quickly and is an excellent versatile layer. My only complaint is that I wish that one could cinch up the hood around your face. There is not adjustment available. The jacket has good chin coverage but a cinch would make the face protection much better. This has been my go-to jacket this winter for snow clearing and winter sports and will be joining me soon on Mt. Washington.

Rated 4 out of 5 by scudco Great layering item
I use this item solely as a layer within a hooded hard shell so I'm perfectly happy that there is no unnecessary drawstring for the hood. I'm 5' 10", 170 lbs. I usually wear medium, but this fits just very slightly loose. I have full mobility without stretching the fabric though. The sleeves don't extend past my wrists, and the bottom doesn't extend much past my hip. It's a great fit for activities without everything hanging long. Also, I can lounge outside comfortably at 0 F with base, fleece, this jacket, and hard shell.

I'm not sure it will protect down to minus 15 degrees as stated in the ad. Here in Oklahoma the wind blows up to 35 miles per hour and the wind tends to cut through the outer layer. Otherwise a great jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NashMom Perfect for our needs
I bought this jacket for my teenage son to wear to school every day. We had purchased a heavier jacket earlier this year, but he never wore it because he couldn't put it in his locker. He needed something he could put into his backpack so he wouldn't be late for class. This jacket is perfect for him. We do not live in the snowy north, our winter temperatures are in the 30's. He wears a hoodie sweatshirt underneath and the combined layers are more than sufficient to keep him warm. I read lots of reviews and see that some people did not find this jacket warm enough, and I considered buying the down jacket, but ultimately settled on this one. It does run narrow - I usually would buy him a small but got a Medium and it is just right.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Ravendon Not as good as the original
I'd prefer a looser fit that you can layer underneath easier. I'd also prefer a rear buttwarmer flap like on the original.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ChicagoBurbs66 Almost perfect coat!
I purchased this coat in Oct 2014 and I have been very happy with it! It's very light weight but really warm. I live in the Chicago area and generally do not like wearing coats because they're too bulky but this one is great!
It's surprisingly warm when running errands or being active outside. It's got great pockets to carry your cell, gloves and whatever else you might need and the zippers insure you won't loose anything.
The only drawback is they should have put a draw string on the hood so on windy/rainy days you can keep the hood in place. I found the size to run true to other winter coats. I am 5' 11'' and 190 bought the XL which is a very comfortable fit.
Definitely recommend this coat to those who don't like wearing coats but some day's it's just too cold to go without one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by DRBrit Excellent but a needs Drawstring for Hood
This is my favorite insulated jacket for Spring, Fall and Winter wear in temps down to the upper teens. I usually wear undershirt + lightweight turtleneck layers and am plenty warm. The only significant drawback is that it NEEDS A DRAWSTRING FOR HOOD. I sewed two 1" 'tucks' into the edge of the hood and then sewed them down flat. That gives a nice snug and toasty fit when zipped right up to my chin and adds a lot to the warm feeling. If the hood had a drawstring I would date this product a 5++!
