Its a nice light, jacket, but it should not be rated as "warmer". The shell does nothing to prevent heat evaporation. For how we intended to use it, this is not a good jacket.
It might make a nice liner for another coat, but its not warm enough to be a cold weather coat on its own.

I read reviews of this jacket and I have come to 2 conclusions. If you like the cold weather this jacket will keep you warm. If you are like me and not fond of cold weather this jacket will not keep you warm at 30 degrees as stated. That being said, it is nice and light. I am 6'4" 205 and I got the large tall. It fits great and is very comfortable. I will always have a another layer on when outside for extended periods but that is still better than my bigger bulkier jacket.

áby JerryEinNaplesFL Just What I Was Looking For
I waited to buy this until I could try it on in a store (which I did last week in New Jersey). I'm glad that I did as I ended up purchasing a bigger size (XL) than I normally get (Large) so I would have the extra room for layering clothing underneath it if necessary. As it rolls up into it's own left pocket, it's already pretty compact, but I stuffed it into a 7" x 10" waterproof bag to make it even smaller to fit into my carry-on luggage. It was warm enough for the 50 degree weather in NJ and I may have the opportunity to test the -15 degree claim when I travel to Portland, OR in January.

This is a very light and warm jacket. The fit is not what I have become accustomed to from LL Bean. The sizing is more of a form fit - unlike most of the jackets I have which have generous "room" around the girth. In fact, I had to return my first size and move up one. The sleeves seem to be a bit longer than normal - perhaps because of the larger size. Jacket is nicely made - love the breast pocket for the cell phone - pockets of nice size. Not a fan of the lack of cuffs on the sleeves. But, all in all, a nice jacket for around town in cold weather.

Rated 3 out of 5áby killerjimbo -15 Degrees??????
I'm a big L.L. Bean fan. Anytime I need any type of clothes I go to their website or catalog. Based on the description and the - 15 degree warmth I thought I could get rid of several other coats in my closet. When I received it I wasn't surprised at the light weight but couldn't see how this light jacket would be wearable to -15. I found out pretty quickly at 32 degrees that this jacket was NOT wearable to -15 without some very heavy layering.
The jacket is nice, lightweight and comfortable but for $109 I was expecting something more versatile.

Rated 3 out of 5áby NEKVT Packs well
Perhaps the best attribute of this jacket is that it packs well into its own pocket. There is very little loft in the insulation and therefore does not provide as much warmth as down or fleece. The jacket functions well as a light windbreaker and a light mid layer.
Expect it to provide only about 1/3 to 1/2 the insulation value of a similar weight jacket in down. Compared to a fleece jacket it takes up about 1/4 the space in the pack, provides about 3/4 the insulating value as a single layer and about 1/2 the warmth as a layer under a shell.
If space is not an issue a fleece might be a better option. If wet conditions are not an issue, down might be a better option. It's a good fit for when space is and issue, it's damp and temps are in the 30-50's.

I ordered this jacket to throw in the bag for trips since it would take up little room (folds up into a jacket pocket). The Surprise is how warm it is! When I took it out of the bag after getting it, I thought something this thin cannot be very warm...WRONG! I have worn in in 50 degree weather with a short sleve polo and had to unzip the front from getting too warm. It is ideal as a crisp Fall day (or night) jacket. I suspect it will work as well in the Spring time too. Should have known better on the front end about the warmth since it came from Mr. Bean.

At 6'3" 190lb (size 42) a Large Tall fits me like a glove. Not too snug, not too loose. Perfect length in both arms and body.
I packed this jacket for a 3-day trip in the Pemigewasset Wilderness. Super light and packs small. Ideal for summit temps (30's - 40's) and typical wind. Breathes very well. Comfortable on the ground, too, as a way to maintain warmth without bulky outer layers. It instantly became a favorite piece of gear.

I bought this jacket with in mind that it may not fit right, not warm enough, and so on. Wrong on all counts. This jacket not only fits right, it is very warm and functional. We had our first "cold " snap as I speak, it fits great with only a t shirt under , I bought the XL I'm 6-3 230, but it looks great . My wife said, I what one, needless to say, I ordered her one, I'm hoping that the XSM (5-0 105) will fit her as well as mine. Good going LL Bean

Rated 5 out of 5áby CJ017 so far so good
Received my kelp green jacket and was very pleased with the fit. Was a little concerned about the fit in the upper arms, based on comments from LL Bean regarding the redesign, but there was plenty of room for me. I ordered a medium, and am about 5' 8" and 170lbs. I like the raglan sleeves, and the detailing on the jacket is well done. Zipper garages at the top and at the sides -features not present on the vest- are a nice touch. The drawcords for the hem could have been hung inside the jacket, making for a neater appearance. Stuffing the jacket into its own left pocket is a breeze and not at all difficult to figure out. The kelp green looks more brown to me, which is just fine.
Since it's late August, only time will tell how warm, windproof, and water resistant the jacket really is for me.
