Rated 3 out of 5áby ibupnorth01 Warmer than fleece but could be better
Definitely warmer than a fleece vest but not worth the price unless you are lucky enough to buy during a 20% off sale. Except for some premium goose down vests, I find it questionable to spend so much on so little warmth. Don't get me wrong, this vest does come in handy and it has a place in my closet but it's priced too high and it isn't as versatile as I would like because of the collar and fit.
I would recommend making the collar straight to fit better under a coat and snug up the fit in the stomach area. Like every Bean coat, vest, sweater, shirt, and t-shirt I have bought the last past two and a half years, the stomach area fit is horrible and slightly fitted means nothing. Will hold off buying Bean shirts, coats, vests and such in the future until I see an improvement in fit.

I'm enjoying my terrific vest. I like it so much that I would consider buying a second one IF you had better colors. I bought the blue one but the other colors are TERRIBLE! Some others have made similar remarks so please add some nice colors and I will gladly buy another.

Rated 5 out of 5áby MunsterLover Perfect mid layer. Best purchase in years
I used this all hunting season and have used it regularly this sub zero winter. I live in a Lake Effect zone of upstate NY. This fullfills my Navy Seals inspired layer system. PolyPro 1st layer then whatever type shirt the conditions warrant for weight, insulation or breathe ability. This vest is always next. It is super warm. It never overheats me. It has excellent wind blocking properties. Almost wind proof in my opinion. The light weight is sublime. The slickness of the shell makes is extremely easy to add and remove whatever outer layer I use next. I love this feature so much. My old fleece vests seem quaint. Next, Insulated Wool for sub zero where water is not a concern. Wind challenger shell for most normal cold days 5-30 degrees. Different insulated waterproof shells for duck hunting or anything where getting wet is a concern.
I bought the bright orange to use when upland hunting in low brush fall fields, but I am so happy and impressed that when I have enough Bean Visa points, I'm buying a back up. For the price ( and I am comparing it to very expensive system gear made for USN Seals) it can not be beat IMO. Kudos to Bean's design team on this one.
PS, I would suspect if you are more cold sensitive than average, then the jacket would be a perfect mid layer for sub zero temps.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Rockmountain Good warmth for the weight
I've worn fleece and down vests over the years but this is first primaloft vest. It's been terrific and has replaced my fleece on many occasions. I usually wear a shirt (no t shirt), light sweatshirt and the vest and found that I'm usually good in temps down to about 40 degrees. With rain or winds I'll add a waterproof shell. I do a lot of hiking and would recommend this as a layer in cool weather.

Very little insulation.
I wear this in chilly rooms around the house.
It is definitely NOT worth the price.

Rated 4 out of 5áby llvincebean comfortable and good looking
this is the 4th packaway vest i have purchased. i find it works great as a layer in cold weather and by itself in cool weather with just a thermal underneath. the only negative with this particular vest is the material feels stiffer than my other vests but i still like it.

Rated 4 out of 5áby Hawkguy Surprisingly warm!
At first upon receiving this vest I thought I would be dissapointed because it looked to be thicker than it actually is but it is surprisingly warm and a great layer either under a coat or over say a fleece, and very stylish as well! I've found that XL regular is the size that all of LL Beans outerwear fits for me. I'm 6'1, 215 lbs, with a shorter torso than legs. My new favorite vest though. Bye bye fleece vests.

The lightweight and non-bulky material of the vest makes this great for layering or active wear. My core was kept warm and dry when the conditions were mid-40s F and rain.
No issues with the sizing.

This is a nice vest but does not have enough insulation to keep you warm.

Rated 5 out of 5áby normand802 warmth without bulk
This is a nice vest for chilly days when bulky clothing is an issue. I especially like it when I play golf early morning. It's light and allows freedom of mobility. I haven't washed it so can't verify condition after a wash but usually anything with fiber fill can be fluffed up nicely in the No Heat cycle of the dryer with a tennis ball (or 2) in the tub with it. I really like this vest for short periods outside on a cool (not cold) day. Can also be worn under a light jacket for extra warmth. Hope this helps.
