Rated 3 out of 5 by gelato4me It's an ok jacket...
My dgt put this to many days of use due to rainy PDX weather; however it hasn't last over 1.5 yrs without the plastic liner in the sleeves slowly peeling off at both sleeves' inside cuffs. Dgt continues to dislikes the plastic-ness of the jacket; made her sweat too much. But she was dry.....

My son wore this jacket 2 years and it has held up very well. Granted, we are in Austin, Texas, where it is either bone-dry or pouring hard, and we didn't get much rain the first year he had it. But last winter was cold and wet, and he attended an outdoor school every Friday (in addition to some outdoor time the rest of the week as well), so the jacket got a fair amount of use. He is very hard on his clothing; yet this jacket now belongs to little sister. I just ordered a larger one for him. There is one small hole - I think from a campfire! - and a bit of wear inside where the lining has come off around the neck, but otherwise it's in pretty good shape. And he never said that it wasn't waterproof. Last winter was a good test for that: there were a LOT of wet days when he was out all day long. He also wore it as a wind-breaker, with warm layers underneath. The hood was great to help keep the wind out of his ears.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ewk2y Four years' use--wow!
I confess I buy clothes big for my son so he can wear them longer. He started with this raincoat in size 4 at age 3. It was large then, but LLBean's clever velcro tape helped adjust the hood to fit. He's been wearing this jacket happily for almost four years! Now, at age and size 6, it's gotten short on him, so I'm upsizing. It looks like new, though. I like the coat's light fabric, unlike the sweaty, rubbery raincoats I remember from my childhood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mblack Perfect!
This is a waterproof jacket. It is less expensive than other brands of waterproof jackets. As with adult waterproof jackets it will feel slightly plasticy at first. But, if you want it for the purpose its intended for its perfect! If you just want a lightweight jacket that doesn't have to be waterproof then get a different one. I got one for each of my kids, they have worn them, they work as intended and we love them!

Rated 1 out of 5 by WindmillMom Awful plastic look and feel
This jacket is flimsy and the area inside the hood/neck is like shiny plastic. Not at all the quality that I was expecting, especially for this price. It's going back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ClevelandGal Plasticky feel inside
I wish this had a mesh lining or some other lightweight lining. It has plastic-taped seams in the inside that are shiny and plasticky looking. I'm not sure if we will keep it or send it back.
The other Bean raincoat, the Discovery Raincoat, has a mesh lining but it looks like it has zipper issues so I got this one.
I wish LLBean still had a windbreaker available for kids. My boys had the Casco Bay windbreaker, I believe it was called, for the last 2 years. It was water resistant enough, had a soft feel and a thin soft lining. It was fantastic for light rain, wind, chilly weather. My older son has outgrown his and I'm trying to replace it with this. We don't need complete water proofing, our kids don't stand around in heavy rain.

Because I have a girl and a boy in different sizes, we are buying the gender-neutral colors and they are both wearing them, which is how I can justify spending $50 on a windbreaker rain jacket. We use them a lot, mostly for wind breakers but we're often in light rain and sometimes in heavy rain. We often use them over fleece. Because they are breathable, we use them for activities like biking, hiking too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by shirxo Looks great and truly waterproof
I'm a petite woman, 5'2" and 105 lbs. I bought the medium in blue, and it fits me great. I can wear layers underneath in the winter too. Great purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ActiveMomCanada Excellent rain jacket for active kids
I bought this jacket for my 4 year-old son. It is an excellent jacket that is truly waterproof, and withstands walking home from school in heavy rain (without an umbrella). It has nice reflective features, as well as a brushed softer section near the chin so that there is no chafing when the jacket is zipped all the way up.
My only complaint is that the hood seems to be quite large (or wide); it would be nice if it had some adjustable cords to get a better fit in downpours. Hence, the 4-star rating.
My son is slim and 44" tall. The size 4 fits him well, with room to grow into next spring (and possibly beyond). The sleeve cuffs can be adjusted to fit around his wrists so that his hands are not swallowed by the jacket.
