Rated 5 out of 5 by AndreaFloridaLLBean Great Lamp - Only Time Will Tell If It Stays Great
This is a nifty, bright, easy-to-operate lamp; it has a car charger and indoor charger, which makes it ideal for Florida's thunderstorms, hurricanes and rolling power outages. The only caveat is that the bulb in these lamps only lasts a short while -- perhaps a year or two if you're lucky -- and is not replaceable. Why would L.L. Bean sell an item that has so much engineering, plastic and other chemicals in it, and not make it an investment piece that would last for at least 10 years? If I didn't have to use this lamp indoors during power outages, I would be tempted to just use the propane lantern and its replaceable mantles. I've had one of those for 20 years! Another improvement would be for L.L. Bean to have a recycling program for the lamps once the bulbs die.

Rated 4 out of 5 by DickD1950 Very Bright and Efficient Lighting
The Coleman CPX6 Lantern met or exceeded my expectations. The light is very bright and most needs, including reading, require only the medium setting. This light is brighter and longer lasting than my fluorescent lantern that requires twice as many batteries. The CPX6 just got its first workout this morning when we awoke to no power. The lantern allowed us to get ready for work and make breakfast without stumbling around in the dark. The only reason I didn't give the CPX6 a five-start rating is the high pitched whine coming from the lantern when it's on low and medium settings. The noise is very low volume but noticable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by thequiltygardener Great lantern !
I ordered two of these. one for myself and one for a friend. they are very bright and light up a whole room. I am now ordering four more for myself and friends that keep asking me where I got them because they want them. I'm also a quilter and the light is so bright that I can still quilt if our power goes out. This is a great product !

Excellent source of battery powered light. The only weight is the four D batteries. The handle is convenient and the color just fine. I purchased this lantern for power outages. It definitely casts enough light to read, sew, knit or play games. Am extremely happy and it was worth waiting for. (Backordered.)

Much brighter and safer than a gasoline or propane mantle burning mantles. Frequent power outages makes this a vital part of dealing with what could be prolongued darkness. No hiss but quiet and adjustable light. No fear of my 2 cats getting burned as I was when I used the mantle burners.

No more Coleman Fuel or fragile mantles to deal with. I would've giving this lantern 5 stars but this thing burns through batteries in no time. Can't wait to go camping this summer with it and see how bright it is outside in real world conditions. I'm also interested in finding out how durable it is after reading reviews on Colman products on other sites that weren't that flattering. Time will tell

We ordered two lanterns, one for each floor of our home for power outages. We tried them in total darkness and they light up a whole room. Definitely worth the money!

I checked out every battery powered lantern I could find on the internet. This beats them all! It really lights up a good size room. A
rechargeable battery is an option, it can also be recharged off a cars cigarette lighter outlet. Really state of the art world class.

Rated 3 out of 5 by OldtimerCustomer Good lantern but with a design flaw
This lantern is extremely bright & has multiple settings to adjust the brightness. The reason why I don't give this 5 stars is because when I put the rechargeable battery into the lantern & turned it on it emitted a very high-pitched whine. I exchanged the lantern (same model) and that one also generated a high-pitched whine. So, bottom line is that if you have normal hearing you may be driven bat-crazy whenever you use this thing because of the noise. If you can't hear high-pitched tones then you'll be fine. I also think that the build quality could be improved slightly, as the components are mostly plastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sepp Super-bright Emergency lantern
Incredibly bright on high. One-time test seemed to support claim for battery life on high. Easily twice as bright as the Coleman CPX 6-400 which is also a good emergency lantern. Both now stored for future power failures. VERY happy with this choice.
