I have a "rolling adventure duffle, medium" which I found doesn't stand alone. I purchased this commuter underseat bag because it would stand up and was supposedly a similar size. It's not.
The catalog size and dimension info for these items does not appear to be accurate, so the bag is quite small as compared to the duffle.
Catalog: duffle, 11x23x11 and 2000cu in.(actual = 2783 cu in)
bag, 16x13.75x9 and 2268 cu in (actual = 1980 cu in)
The bag is fine by itself, but comparisons are questionable.

I bought this for me! Both my husband and son "just want to try it out" and I've got to order one for myself again!!! All three of us really like it for different reasons. My son, who is a professional Magician, and does a lot of traveling, says it cuts his luggage pieces down a lot. My husband, who drives a airport shuttle van, needs compact space that protects all his electronics. I need something that can pack both a spare work uniform, (I'm a RN) and a clean set of regular clothes for after work the next day. This is the most coveted item in our household! Thank you designers, it's a winner all-around.

Rated 4 out of 5 by RangeleyRoadWarrior Half-sized rollerbag for polished road warriors
After 25+ years of travelling with two bags, the freedom of everything in one bag able to fit under seat is quite a welcome change.
Not for trips longer than 3 days, although clothing compartment is spacious compared to other areas of bag. Would not recommend >15" laptops. Separate laptop & tablet sleeves are nice, these are the only areas that would fit full sized paper of any amount.
When rolling, there are two top mounted zipper pouches; one fuzzy lined in black would be even better lined in a light color for better visibility while searching, the other is lined in white waterproof (it seems) material fitting the traveling liquid requirement nicely during TSA encounters.
There is a side zip pouch I haven't figured out yet, too small for water bottle or umbrella, probably best described as laptop power adapter pocket.
Office area of bag is a single zipped front/top pouch containing standard eyeglass pouch, 2 pen sleeves, 1 passport sized slot, 3 credit card slots. A larger (8,5 x 5.5 paper) mesh pocket and a nice "junk drawer" pocket with elastic top closure are on the zip out sleeve.
You may have to make some choices to reduce equipment load, but the freedom of no checked bags and having office with wardrobe in single under seat package I am finding worth it.
Super nice top handle & functional side handle for grabbing and moving bag; they are well placed and durable.
Telescoping handle & rolling functions are smooth, will check back in a year as these are typically wearing parts that survive poorly.
No integrated shoulder/backpack mounts. Would be nice to shoulder bag while traversing hostile territory; e.g. gravel, snow, airport bathrooms...
On Dash8 and the like it can be a bit of negotiating with the gate staff; they will be convinced you need to gate check it. So, I let them tag it, but then carry it on and it fits underseat, not in the overhead.
In all other but the most tiny commuter aircraft, this bag will make it under the seat in front of you. B737, A320, A319, E175 all fine. Adjusting to the loss of foot space is only a problem on long flights, didn't find it cramped on anything under 2 hours.

Rated 1 out of 5 by yemen Handle doesn't lock into the extended position
I love the size of this bag. I don't like to carry bags on my shoulder and I thought this would the perfect travel bag to drag through the airport and not take up much space on the airplane. I've taken it on one trip and doesn't work like other rollerboard type suitcases. When you extend the handle it doesn't lock. The handle slides in and out easily and I found this SO ANNOYING. My back and shouldler started to bother me because of this bag. Its hard to control the bag with the faulty handle. I told LLBean about the problem and they were so nice and sent me a new bag immediately. The handle is exactly the same. I'll take both bags back this weekend. I'm really disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by FreqUser100 Overall good design but with a major flaw
I have been looking for a small lightweight suitcase I can use as a carry-on. This bag would have been perfect if the handle, once extended, remained extended. But after you extend it and try to roll the suitcase or move it around, the handle keeps collapsing. There is no locking mechanism so it will not remain extended. Many have commented about this problem before and I had hoped for a change, but obviously, LLBean has not heeded this advice. I am returning the bag.

Rated 2 out of 5 by illinlois7 Title is OK
inferior construction for a Bean product. zippers were not sewn in very well, stuck and had to force, wheels did not turn upon receipt until they were oiled...shouldn't have to do this. appearance also looks cheap for a $200 product, outside stitching not a good look. the features were in general good and functional, just not a quality product. returned and purchased another suppliers higher quality product, and at a price of $340. so I paid more but got a bag that works and looks much higher quality. first Bean product ever returned, certainly will continue to shop here, just one item that didn't work.

I can put two laptops, iPad, gadgets, lunchbox and purse in this little baby for everyday to and from the office and load it up for an international trip. The only 'con' on the bag is the really bad velcro attachments for the interlocking straps. I had this repaired and now the bag is perfect. Design group may want to rethink the attach points on the straps, they really are bad.

I have traveled three times since purchasing this bag. It fits overhead on the bigger planes and under the seat on the smaller jets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by iShop2Buy The almost perfect bag
I love this bag!
****Pockets for everything
****Bottom seam protection near wheels
****Large 15.6" laptop fits in the front pocket with room for my iPad.
****I can even put a second computer in a neoprene sleeve and fit it in the back of the main compartment for long business trips when I want both my home and work laptops.
****My compact golf umbrella will slip into a corner of the back compartment.
****A handle with two rods. I can perch my large lunch box on top looping around the handle and it doesn't spin around.
****Fleece lined pockets for sunglasses and PDA/cellphone(s). There are two.
****Magazines fit without being folded in the front pocket.
****It's narrow enough to roll down the aisle of the airplane.
****It has a TSA lock loop on the zipper to the main compartment if you are forced to gate check the bag on a regional flight that bans all rolling bags in the passenger compartment.
Cons(or things I would improve to make it perfect to me):
****The net used to contain the main compartment does not come out. A full zip around would make this perfect but it does lay down in the bottom of the bag.
****The liquid pocket is plastic/silicone lined. Eventually this will crack so a waterproof duck cloth might have been better.
****2 wheels instead of four. I would have loved for this bag to be a spinner but chose it over other bags that were. The spinner bags were returned.
****No bottle pocket. Call me crazy but I like a pocket on the side that will fit my umbrella or my bottle of water. The pocket might hold a pocket umbrella but not my compact golf one I use to cover me and my rolling bag when using it to cart stuff to and from subway. A mesh one would be perfect since it allows the umbrella to drip outside the bag.
****The liner compression straps hook to the back of the case with velcro so with a little pulling force (pulled straps out about an inch) they separated from the back. Maybe that will change if I have something pushing against the back while I am pulling them forward. I had to feel with my fingers to push the fabric/hooks to the connect to the loop side of the velcro behind the fabric liner.
Other than those five things the bag is perfect. No other bag had the features this one has and still fits under the airline seat. So I would recommend to friends and family. I'm thinking of giving my mom one for a gift. :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by JohnTX Very functional bag
Only complaint is the top of the bag isn't flat, meaning if you want to lean something against telescoping handle, it's hard to secure. Otherwise, it's great. I used to use the slightly-cheaper version, but this once has so many more pockets and pouches, which is great for laptops and iPads. It also looks a bit less formal, which I like, so you can use for a business trip or casual weekend and not feel weird in either situation.
