LLBean advertises that it keeps liquids hot for up to 12 hours. That seemed to exceed most other thermoses I had read about. However, at least in my case, it was not true. First I tried a very hot tea. It lasted only a couple of hours. Next I preheated the thermos for about 3 minutes with near boiling water. Then I poured out that water and poured in hot tea. Basically the same results. In spite of its high tech description I found it no better than the other thermos I had. I do like its design and two tops.

Rated 2 out of 5 by YIYA It doesn't keep beverages hot as claimed
I bought this thermos for my dad to take his coffee with him at work, and he gave it back to me saying that it didn't keep his coffee hot. So I started using it and to my disappointment, the coffee was less than warm after only 3 hours in the thermos. This happened even though I used hot water that I took from the kettle. Also, it is highly impractical, because you have 2 lids, one has an opening to drink straight from the bottle, and the other doesn't have any hole. So i found myself, switching from lid to lid in order to put it in my bag without spilling liquid, and then switching to use the other lid with the opening to drink my coffee. Today I forgot to bring the lid with the opening, so I had to keep my thermos with the other lid, which I had to keep open in order to drink, so my coffee got cold even faster. I will be returning it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AlabamaLLBeanShopper Well designed and functional canteen
This is a very good canteen. It is lightweight and well constructed. The insulation works very well, and the stainless steel interior does not give a metallic taste to liquids - at least not to coffee or to water, the only two liquids I have stored in the canteen. The wide cap has a rubber gripping ring that comes in handy when opening the flask after liquids cooling in the canteen over time have created a vacuum seal. Another welcome feature for those with arthritic hands, the lid screws on and off easily with just a couple of turns, and creates a good seal. The manufacturer also includes an extra hot beverage lid with a sealable spout so that the flask can used as a travel mug for coffee, etc.
The canteen ships with a large proprietary rubber band that matches the rubber grip ring on the lid and, for shipping purposes, secures the retainer strap on the cap to the side of the canteen. The removable rubber band does not show up on pictures of the canteen on the L.L. Bean webpages even though it is integral to the design of the flask. Upon first use of the canteen straight out of its shipping box, the rubber band will need to be removed in order to screw the lid to the canteen, but do not dispose of the band; reattach it to the canteen cylinder. It provides a great additional gripping surface on cold mornings when one wants to open the flask while wearing gloves, or on rainy days when the canteen's outer surface is wet.
I purchased the canteen because I wanted a stainless steel container rather than a plastic one. This product met that criterion excellently well, and the extra features impressed me enough to give it five stars.

This item is non-performing and a disappointment. I was hoping for a thermos that would keep my soup hot for lunch when at work. It did not do that even after I tried heating the bottle with hot water. I would not recommend this specific item to anyone...

Keeps my water cold all day. When sip lid is screwed on correctly and snapped closed , no spills when tipped over or carried in bag.

Rated 1 out of 5 by CascoKidd Performance not as claimed
I bought this specifically for transporting hot a beverage to be consumed within 4 hours. I researched all over the internet and chose Hydro Flask. The next time I saw it at L.L.Bean I bought it. I should have read the reviews on this site.
OK, so I know to preheat so I fill it with BOILING WATER and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then I pour in piping hot coffee and seal with the thermos-type lid (not the snap open cap meant for cold water)
TWO HOURS LATER the outside of the Hydro Flask is hot to the touch and the coffee is lukewarm.
This is WORTHLESS as a thermos. I'll keep it to see how it performs with ice water this summer, but I can imagine it will go back. It's not worth the extra weight if it can't do what it's advertised to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Annebug Good all around water bottle
I use mine purely as a water canteen for around the house or to toss in the diaper bag during errands so I use it all day everyday. I love it. Only small issue, the paint is already chipped. Had the bottle in a side pocket of the diaper bag, sat the bag down a little too hard on a tiled floor, and chipped the paint on the bottom. Other than that, no complaints.

I was very excited at the thought of having hot coffee at break. However, after a number of attempts, it seems the contents do not remain hot for more than an hour. Very disappointing.

This flask appears to be not much more than a glorified water bottle. It does, when used at room temperature, keep drinks cold for a good part of the day if you add ice cubes, although after about 6 or 8 hours drinks will lose their coolness. The 24-hour claim of coldness only appears to apply if the flask in used outdoors in near or below freezing temperatures.
Where this flask really fails, however, is in keeping hot drinks hot. When the flask is used in a room-temperature environment, after a few hours hot liquids have noticeably cooled and by about four or five hours they are trending toward lukewarm. When used outside in near or freezing temperatures, hot liquids cool significantly after an hour and are cold in two or three hours. This occurs even with pre-heating the flask with boiling water. The claim of keeping liquids hot for up to 12 hours appears to be simply false.
Further, if you keep the flip lid on the flask, it can open accidentally fairly easily when kept in a pack. This necessitates carrying the flip lid separately and swapping lids whenever you want a hot drink (with cold liquids you can drink straight out of the wide-mouth opening).
While the flask looks good, it fails in its performance and certainly does not live up to the product description's stated claims.

Rated 4 out of 5 by PRotbn Well, not really 8 hours
I like the outer covering of the flask...not too hot nor too cold to handle when it is full. However, LL Bean's claim that it keeps drinks hot for 8 hours is not true. After pouring boiling water in it, with a tea bag, it was drinkable (140 degrees) in two hours. In 8 hours it was stone cold. I do like the fairly wide mouth, so it is feasible to put hot soup in it as well as coffee or tea. An improvement I'd like to suggest would be a ring/loop around the top to make carrying easier.
