Rated 1 out of 5 by Cherlee STRAPS ARE A DESIGN FLAW
The straps were about 4-5" too short. I cound have made them into slip-ons but I didn't want to. Returned them.

I have never sent back a pair of LL Bean shoes and I returned these. After a month, they still hurt my heels and caused blisters. The straps were very painful on the top of my foot and would not stretch out. If I were you I would skip these shoes and move on to others.

Rated 3 out of 5 by cath22 cut off the straps
This shoe is very badly designed, with the straps. They are so strange I doubt they can fit any human foot! So, I simply cut them off and now I have great comfortable slip on.

Rated 2 out of 5 by JKHer I wanted to love them....
I bought these shoes, despite the reviews. I usually wear an 8.5, though sometimes an 8 and I got the 8 after reading the reviews. The shoe was still way too long for me! The arch was also unusually high (I have very average arches), and the strap was uncomfortable. I tried the shoes on over a 2 week period to see if I could learn to like them, but had to return them as they just fit too oddly and I knew that I would not wear them.

I love the style of these Mary Janes. My only complaint and others have said this too, is that the straps are way too short. I do have a high instep but the straps are so short, even an average instep would have trouble. I did keep the shoes though and I get compliments on them.

Your previous Mary Janes have been great. That said, you can have these back, but I have already redesigned them myself. I took 2 straps off and have only one on the shoes and they feel fine. Don't want to have to redesign any others, though. Also, the piece of fabric on the toe front came unglued on one of the shoes, so had to use my own craft materials to glue it back on. Love the comfort of this style, but quality is lacking.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BfloGal Love these shoes!
I bought a pair at the store in the grey/plum, and once home, ordered another in the brown/green. They are comfy, yet look good enough for work or play. They are very lightweight, but give my feet the good support that they always need. My one complaint is the straps - as someone else mentioned, to get the shoes on, you need to undo the straps, which means take them out of the D ring, and then redo it - takes a bit of time. Still, if they were offered in other colors, I would buy more.

Rated 2 out of 5 by FleeceHound Wanted To Love Them, But Could Not
It pains me to return these shoes because they are so cute and versatile. But there is one design flaw that needs someone's attention. The straps that go across the instep are not elasticized so there is no stretch. I don't think I have a particularly high instep but I could not even fasten the velcro on the strap. The length of the velcro on the strap is very stingy so it has to be a perfect fit. I understand these are not slip-ons and I would have been fine having to undo the straps every day to put them on, but there was no way.
LL Bean suggests you order a half-size down and I did, even though I am a perfect 10. But I'm not sure the 10 would have even worked for me.
Finally I found the toe box to be just a tad cramped. I don't typically have toe box issues.
Really wanted this shoe to work for me but it wasn't to be!

Rated 2 out of 5 by LLBeanFan34 Surprisingly Uncomfortable
Having been a loyal L.L. Bean customer for years, I have to say this is the first item I have purchased that was a total dud. The design is terrible. The shoe is terribly uncomfortable and awkward, and the straps are unrealistically short. If you are wearing these shoes without socks, be prepared for some serious blisters and arch pain after about 2 hours of wear. I don't recommend wearing these on a long walk, etc.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Inglewyn Blisters every time!
When I first put these shoes on, they sure seem comfortable, but every time I wear them I end up with blisters. I've tried everything - socks, no socks, dress socks, washing the shoes, stretching them, ... the only thing that works is wearing padded band-aids on my heels, and how practical (or cute) is that?
I'm stubborn and I love LL Bean products so I've been trying too hard to love these shoes; now I've held onto them for so long and worn them so much that I don't think it's right to return them. What a disappointing, uncomfortable waste of money.
If you buy a pair and find them uncomfortable, don't be stubborn - return them!
