I have had a rain jacket from another manufacturer made of the same fabric for over 8 years. This jacket traveled with me everywhere, from bicycle trips, backpacking and skiing. Alas it was finally starting to wear out. I was excited to find the Pathfinder shell was made of the same fabric that doesn't delaminate over the years as many others do and has kept me dry through many downpours. I tried the shell on in the store and thought it was perfect. I was wearing a thin fleece at that time. When I got home, I tried the jacket on again while wearing a light t-shirt and found that the pit zips rubbed under my arms. I may be more sensitive in that area than others, but was afraid that would be a problem for me and returned the shell. I loved it otherwise. Give it a try. If that feature doesn't bother you, I think you will love this jacket!

This shell keeps you dry from weather and from perspiration, which keeps you at just the right temperature. Easy to fold and store when not in use. Hood is comfortable with or without a hat. Pockets are great, especially the chest pocket. Well made and comfortable.

by ErinRose AMAZING!!!
I just got of a 6 day river trip with 18 of my students. It rained for over 20 hours. Thank goodness I recently purchased the Pathfinder jacket and pants, because I stayed bone dry. The large is big enough to wear a PrimaLoft layer underneath and the large pants were big enough to wear fleece pants underneath; while being just about perfect with light layers under too.
I would recommend this jacket/pants to anyone. I am so happy I finally bit the bullet and spent the $$ on good rain gear without breaking the bank.
I am looking forward to next ski season when I will wear this jacket on wet powder days with the PrimaLoft layer underneath, and for spring days when a only a light breathable layer is needed.
L.L. Bean you never cease to amaze me.
And yes those are Bean mocs on my feet...they also stayed cozy, warm and dry!

I saw this jacket on a fellow hiker and decided to buy one for myself. It is a bit pricey, it cost more than the winter coat I bought at LLBean late last year. But I love the feel of the material and the stiffness. I love all the pockets and zippers, you can zip open the sleeves for ventilation in warm weather rain. The front pockets are a bit small and I'm concerned things could fall out if not zippered. I was wearing the jacket on a kayak adventure when my son toppled me over and the jacket performed well for me and my time in and then out of the water.

Although this coat was more expensive than others, it fits great and really keeps me dry. I commute daily into a large city via mass transit, and I'm always dry... even in the pouring rain!

I had been dragging my feet about buying a shell for cool weather hiking for quite a while, as I could never find anything I loved that wasn't ridiculously expensive. I'm so glad I found this!
I've only had it for a couple of months, but it seems to be very well-made. I love that it's light-weight, well-sealed, and can be cinched down to keep out the wind. So far my only complaint is that it takes a bit of an effort zip the zipper up past your chin. While some have complained that the pockets are too high, this is absolutely what you want when wearing a backpack.

I wore it for the first time on X-mas eve and received many compliments. I ordered the red (bright) color. I believe it may run a bit large, as I usually wear a Large but ordered a Medium and fits perfectly. I recommend to check the sizing information before ordering.

I had problems zipping the jacket, the zipper did not slide easily and the underarm zippers were uncomfortable. I also thought the material was stiff and made a lot of noise. Not impressed for the money

Jacket material was stiff and crinkly. Side pockets were too high for my hands, and they zip close in the up direction rather than the down direction. All pockets were rather small. Returned it.

I tried several sizes from medium to extra large, trying to like this jacket. The price was good, as was the various colors:however the zippers under the arms was extremely uncomfortable, I felt like I had a stick under there. The only size that was remotely comfortable was the XL, and it was too big. It would also be helpful to have a double zipper on the bottom to allow you to unzip it if needed
