Rated 5 out of 5 by teharman Feel Great
I have a lot of trouble with my feet and have to be very selective with the shoes that I buy. I had purchased a pair of waterproof insulated hikers last Fall from L. L. Bean and they worked great throughout the whole Winter, so I thought I'd try these as just a casual shoe for everyday wear. They have been great! They feel great on my feet and my feet do not hurt at the end of the day if I have been on them more than normal. Very Pleased!!

This is the only shoe I have been able to wear throughout the day for about the past year and a half. I was so happy to find something comfortable that I bought two more pair over the last six months in different colors. I have tried many many shoes which cause discomfort before finding these. I would buy another pair in a flash if LLBean sells them in black.

Rated 4 out of 5 by funnyfeet very good, one reservation
I don't use these for hiking, but have foot and balance issues that make the stability of a hiker a good choice for me- but lighter is better. I also need to put a rather thick orthotic in my shoes, and I find this works for me with many LL Bean shoes, including this one (though I generally go a half size larger for shoes that are not manufactured as extra depth.# I like the grip for stability also, and the appearance is pleasing to me overall. #But since I usually have to wear orthopedic-looking shoes I am not too picky!# There is one trivial but irritating problem: the shoelaces were SO short it was nearly impossible to tie them at all, and not double-knot them. I have a high instep, but still. It was not easy to find long laces #72 "# that were a close enough match color wise, but I managed online #just added more to the price# But there's a bigger issue. The heel counter on this shoe pushes down and out of shape too easily. With my foot problems I virtually always use a shoehorn, but even so, the pad at the heel has begun to lose its shape, as if the filler in it has broken up, and that has begun to cause some rubbing on my heel. #and rubbing will NOT work with my foot issues#. I'm disappointed since I have only been wearing the shoe for five months- I wear it most of the weekend and perhaps another day and couple of evenings during the week. Hoping it won't get too much worse since otherwise, I like these shoes very much. If it does get too bad at least I know LL Bean will take them back. But I hate to let them go.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Fly81 Comfortable
Comfortable for day hike (once for 7 miles), daily commute (between office/home and parking lot), weekly grocery shopping, etc. Fit greatly, nice arch support, comfortable to wear right out of the box.
One problem - the shoe material is not very durable. After wearing it a month or so, the shoelace already "cut" into the shoes, break the top cover fiber.

Rated 3 out of 5 by KSCats Toe Box shallower every year
The first question asked in this review form is "would you recommend this item to a friend? Yes or No." My answer is Maybe. It depends on my friend's needs. I used to rate these shoes as a 5 star, but now I struggle to give them 3 stars. I fell in love with these shoes several years ago because the toe box was roomy enough for my orthotic inserts and not pinch my feet or put pressure on the joints, and they were affordable. But each year the new model has been changed to make the toe box shallower and shallower. When I hold the new pair next to the old pair I can easily see the difference in the depth of the toe box. Now I can not walk 20 feet wearing these shoes, there is not enough room once I put my inserts in. The quality of the shoe is still a 5 star, but the change in the overall style reduces their wearablity for me. I will continue testing LL Bean shoes, but until the toe box is deepened back to what it used to be, I won't be buying these shoes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by MidwestHen Not the same Pathfinder
These shoes had to be returned because they were too narrow despite ordering the wide width. I have 2 pairs of Pathfinders from a few years ago and the fit is perfect: roomy toebox in both width and depth that comfortably accommodates my orthotics. This newer model is both too narrow and too shallow in the toe. When my current ones fall apart I'm not sure what options there will be as most other brands are all too narrow. And now, sadly, the new version of the LL Bean Pathfinder is too narrow as well. Paying for return postage is a frustration when I thought I was making a tried-and-true-purchase. I'm very disappointed LL Bean - can't anyone make a truly wide toebox - and stay with it?

My steel toe work boots are more comfortable than these shoes. These are stiff, with no cushion and are being sent back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by LifeLongBeaner2 sadly, didn't work for me
the sole is very well cushioned and material was breathable / great support however sadly, the rear of the left shoe "cut" into the back of my heel/ankle thus didn't work for me. bummer because otherwise a very comfy shoe.

Love these shoes! I wear a 9W and they fit perfectly. I wear them daily and they are very comfortable. Just purchased a second pair in a different color. They fit like a sneaker only better.
I would recommend this shoe.
