I have purchased 3 of these sweaters over the last 6 years or so. I live in them during the winter. This winter I got the oatmeal model. The wool is heavier than previous years which is a plus but I have a minor quibble.
The neck has gone from a 4 button to a 2 button which I think is less useful. My only other suggestion for next year maybe a hunter green?

I've worn many different types of Bean sweaters for many years, and this Bean's Classic Ragg Wool Henley Sweater with the stripes is right near the top of the list of my favorites.(The Bean navy Cashmere Quarter-Zip tops the list).I had received this sweater, solid carbon/navy,for Christmas and just loved everything about it! When I quickly decided that I wanted another Bean's Classic Ragg Wool Henley Sweater,I sprung for the extra 10 bucks and ordered the oatmeal with stripes. Just got it and I'm delighted with it!Like the one that I recived for Christmas,it fits perfectly, looks sharp, and does a great job of keeping me warm in the cold outdoors.Being able to unbutton the buttons at the neck allows me to remain comfortable when I'm inside. This style also comes up higher on the neck than a crew and helps keep the back of my neck warm. - I'm 6 ft,160 lbs. and the regular medium fits perfectly! ~ All and all,an excellent sweater that I highly recommend!

Rated 2 out of 5 by CareyG Such awful colors...
As a longtime L.L. Bean customer I was excited to see this sweater being offered again, but am rather disheartened by the color choices offered.
I'm 6'4", 220lbs with broad chest/shoulders, and a Large Tall fits me very well (a big plus for Bean offering us taller gents "Tall" options). The ragg wool is noticeably warm (i.e. of suitable weight & thickness) and serviceable against the skin (not itchy, or terribly itchy with a short-sleeve shirt) and the styling is classic (also a big plus; "classic" never goes out of style).
However, and this is the deal breaker with me, the color options are/look very dated (decidedly not "classic"), most notably how the colors are heathered. This is especially problematic as they look far different in person, than on a computer screen. This is a shame as I like this sweater in every other regard save that.
For the price I'd recommend this sweater to someone provided color weren't an issue for them.
Bottom line: good sweater, bad/dated colors/heathering.

Needed a warm sweater to wear in the elements and got a lot more than I bargained for. I've had this now for 3 months and the lambswool is extremely comfortable and warm. This is the article of clothing I get the most compliments on.

My son is 30-something professional who is active on his days off. An urban techie, he spends a lot of time running around on transit in the rain. He keeps a professional wardrobe for work, but when it comes to weekend clothing, it's fodder for those of us buying him Christmas gifts.
The man is well over six feet tall, but cut lean. He often has trouble finding clothing that fits right, because many clothes made for "tall" men assume that he will be broad across the middle. Not so this sweater. He pulled it on, and it was neither tight nor baggy, and came to just about where his hip bones are. In short, it looked as if it had been custom made for him.
I bought the green sweater because it is his favorite color. It is a nice woodsy shade, very tasteful.
Could not be more satisfied, and remember, for those of you in rainy climes like we are: wool keeps a guy warm, even if it is wet. Perfect! Trust LL Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Goodhue The Best LL Bean Sweater!
I received a carbon/navy Classic Ragg Wool Henley Sweater as a Christmas gift and it's my favorite Bean sweater. It looks great,is the warmest of the Bean sweaters, and the raised collar keeps my neck warm. When I went inside,I was able to open the two buttons to keep it from becoming too warm. While I really like the cashmere quarter-zip,the Shetland V-necks,and the lambswool crews I have, this Ragg Wool Henley is my favorite! (I wear it with a turtleneck shirt and it is not itchy at all.) ~ Highly recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by afanc Caution: People will steal this sweater
So I purchased this sweater in the s size in oatmeal for my boyfriend. The color is great, a tan with a few different hues in it so that it will go with a variety of color tones it gets paired with. The buttons are a hard plastic material, made to look like the traditional leather buttons minus the leather-still durable, though. The cuffs of the arm do not have elastic but they are reinforced with a different stitching (weaving?) pattern that lends durability. The wool material looks very nice; unlike a lot of other sweaters I have looked at, this one seems to be distinctive in its message "In a cage match with your other sweaters, I win." This is true as one day, shortly after the arrival of the sweater, I ran outside to check the mail and threw this on as it was on the back of the kitchen chair...and realized that all my other sweaters were just...not as good..or not sweater enough. It was comfortable, didn't feel scratchy with a long-sleeve shirt under it...warm, roomy. Ladies, if you are considering this sweater but hesitating because of the sizing (no extra-small) I would highly recommend giving it a try. I am petite, 5'4, usually go with a s, and this sweater is a do-able "chunky" fit. It looks slightly too much with loose pants/boyfriend cut pants on, but with leggings or skinny jeans and boots it works. This sweater can do a lazy day around the house or a trip to the store (in other words, a public appearance) without breaking a sweat. Sweater falls to about an inch below my hip; the bottom also has a reinforced hemming/non-elastic border. The sweater is not overly broad in the shoulders nor does it have loose material under the arms. Sleeves are a bit long; the hemming makes cuffing them a quick fix for the occasions when I feel like they are getting in my way. The awesome free two-day shipping meant that when I ordered a small one in green that day, it was only a short time later that I handed it to my boyfriend, saying "Sorry babe, thought you wanted it in green...let me take that other one off your hands..." I got off the hook with a single raised eyebrow look. He is more barrel chested, is 5'6 but the s fits and looks appropriate (as opposed to the "chunky" fit on me). The sleeves fit his arm length without the occasional need for cuffing. The sweater falls to his hip/ slightly below-ish where on me it is longer.
He is now careful to not leave the green sweater laying around...just in case. If this sweater could be found in an xs, I would definitely buy more...just saying.

Just received my ragg wool sweater. Color is as depicted and true to fit. LL Bean's line of clothing and boots are always of good quality . Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MikeS82 Wonderful sweater.
The quality of the sweater is surprisingly great. I bought the oatmeal color, which is made with a two-tone yarn that looks classic but not boring. The wool is less scratchy than I expected (although I would certainly wear something under it), but more importantly, has both a tight weave for keeping wind out and seems to be made from quality fiber which will age well. I've seen many sweaters that cost more start to pill and fuzz immediately after wearing due to the low quality wool blend. No such problems with this sweater.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the great fit. I'm not a big guy (5'8" and 140 lb) and don't buy many tops from Bean because even the S tends to be bulky on me. For some reason this sweater is a cut a bit trimmer than the rest and I love it. Just compare the photos between this sweater and the regular crewneck version. Way better fit in the upper arm and stomach area if you're a slim guy.
No complaints here. Can't wait to buy another in Loden green once the S is back in stock.

Rated 2 out of 5 L.L. Bean could do better
I expect good things from LL Bean, and they usually deliver. But this sweater was a disappointment. The styling is nice. I like the collar. The problem is that the elastic in the sleeves and the waist is almost nonexistent. As a result the sweater hands straight down (making you look like a waif from a Charles Dickens novel). In addition the cuffs are not snug around the wrists.
I had to take it to a seamstress and for $20 I have the waist taken in. I took out about 4" on both sides so that the sweater sits properly now at belt line (instead of hip line). I did not take the sleeves in, but I should have.
You might ask why not just send it back to Bean. I probably should have, except that I did like the styling and the material.
I ordered a medium. I'm 5'11", 160 pounds with a 34" waist. Except for the problems listed above, the fist was right for me.
