Rated 5 out of 5 by FurryLewis Well-made and comfortable
These have been my daily-wear shoes for 8 months now. There are no holes, no sign of them wearing out or falling apart, where other name brand, similar-type deck shoes have been in very poor condition after this amount of use. They look nice enough for 'dress casual but nice' events, yet are great for the beach or everyday use. They're also easy on and off, with enough lacing to hold them on snugly, yet easy and quick to put on without having to loosen a long line of laces, such as with hiking shoes.
The comfort is excellent for me #no 'heel' problems that some mentioned#. I can sometimes wear a men's 10.5 if it comes in a wide width, but normally wear 11, and these fit fine in the 11 wide size. They're comfortable both for walking and for just leaving your shoes on while seated #I'm usually the first one to take my shoes off when sitting down, but these are pretty comfortable to leave on...nevertheless, I'm glad these are so easy-off-and-on#.
I'm really stoked to have found these shoes. Years ago, friends and I were big fans of the deck shoes that were popular with surfers and boaters, but for many years I was unable to find anything that was as comfortable and lasted anywhere near as long as those did. It appears that LL Bean's are every bit as good as the ones we used to get, if not better.

They looked like the right shoe for me, but the original pair and the exchange pair put a lot of pressure on the Achilles tendon. The first pair was the right size, but they squeaked loudly. The exchange pair squeaked too, and was about a half size larger than the first pair even though they were labeled the same size. I requested a refund.

These are nice looking shoes and seemingly good quality, except for one major flaw. As some other reviewers have noted, the back of the shoe is too high and it rubbed against the back of my heel. Mine started to hurt after about 20 minutes of wearing, and by the time I limped home, it was bleeding. Its still sore. So I sent them back. Too bad, because I liked them otherwise.

Great shoes and easy to wear all day. Comfortable right from the box. I am a repeat buyer as I quickly ordered a second pair. One familiar weakness as with other LL Bean shoes- the laces are about worthless. Too short and quickly broken they failed almost immediately. I purchased two pair of strong 54" round laces and they work well with these shoes.

This shoe has got some good and bad to note.
Let's start with the trouble areas first.
1) I'm usually a 10.5 but these ran a bit small so I returned for an 11 and they're just right.
2) The heel will probably shred your achilles right down to the tendon. Ouch is right! If it weren't for this problem, I'd give them 5 stars.
Now for the good:
1) Returned the shoes for a bigger size. LL Bean took care of the return quickly and sent a new pair right away. Impressed with customer service and returns procedure.
2) Once you make it through the break-in period a week or two later, these shoes are quite comfortable and to me worth the struggle to get a good fit. Tried several other brands with a similar style but they're just not the same feel and fit.
3) They're very quiet when you walk, no squeaking.

Great value, on and off our boat. Non-slip sole and very comfortable, even without socks. Best of all, no heel blisters. Would highly recommend.

I really like the canvas deck shoes I bought some years ago and receive favorable comments about them. I bought I new pair to take on a trip. They fit fine and are comfortable, but the style is less attractive. The sole and heel are a continuous flat surface, and the upper is not as stylish. I almost sent them back, but nobody sells the canvas shoes LLBean used to sell. From what I read these are now surfboard shoes. The strings are less dramatic

Rated 4 out of 5 by ohiojonboy Comfortable and a good value, just needs a tweak
This is my 2nd pair, and I like these shoes fine. As others have noted in reviews, I found the top of the heel counter rubbing achilles most annoyingly. My solution was heat the area up to around 190 degrees F, then stretch/squeeze/manipulate the problem spot. Fixed the problem for me; a hair dryer would probably work just as well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by bransom First pair was great. The second? Ouch!
Like the title says, the first pair of these I owned was (and is still) great: excellent fit and pretty much no break-in required. They were comfortable right from the start. In fact, I liked them so much that I bought another identical pair.
Unfortunately, as others have reported, the second pair has a horrible little raised seam at the heel that carved out bleeding blisters on both feet on the first day I wore these. A few subsequent days of wear yielded more pain even though my heals were padded by thick bandages. And so I've gone back to wearing the old ones.
I should probably return them though I remain hopeful, probably foolishly hopeful, that they'll eventually become as comfortable as the first pair. My 3-star rating reflects the average between my first pair (5 stars) and my new pair (1 star).

I was a bit hesitant to order these shoes because of all the comments about the heel issues. I found no issue at all. In fact these shoes were as comfortable as bedroom slippers from the first time I put them on. And I have a wide foot. No break in at all. I wish they came in additional colors so I could order additional pairs. Good value as well.
