The large ear flaps cover the ears with smaller flaps, about the size of ears, that button down for warmth or up to create a small opening to the ear for better connection with the environment. Fast forward to a year later to the Blizzard of 2013. So far I have been out shoveling in the snow and wind and have to say I love this hat for more than its looks. It is both comfortable and warm. It also air dries pretty quickly and is ready for the next shift of shoveling. Love that hat just wish I did not have to go out there again for round 4, 5 . . .. of shoveling. ( Also wore my high top Bean Bean Boots, Gators that work perfect over the laces and Bean Rain/wind pants and appreciated them all just as much! February 8, 2013
